Did you go through Iowa? Love to see your take on Des Moines and some of their small towns. I've lived in Olathe, KS for decades but I was born & raised in Iowa. The town I grew up in had a population of 54 and at least half of those people shared my last name. My first job in TV was with channel 17 in Des Moines (it's now KDSM the FOX affiliate; at the time I worked there, it was KCBR, the first and only independent TV station in Iowa) and at that point, Des Moines was, well....when your local SCA chapter gives themselves a French name that translates to "Heart of Boredom", you've got some work to do. By all accounts, DSM has been doing that work. I have family that work in the entertainment industry in DSM and it has really picked up, partially because of the explosion of the entertainment industry in Kansas City. The lack of any decent creative community was one of the reasons I left & moved to KC. DSM's worth looking at, along with Ames & Iowa City.
The terrible roads are not just limited to north Omaha. They would rather repave the same the sections of i80 5 times then fix the roads in the old parts of the city.
Don't think you ever mentioned that Omaha is headquarters for Union Pacific RR. It houses the control center for all of UP rails across the country. Also, the air base there was Headquarters for Strategic Air Command, the baddest, meanest and most potent command in the USAF.
I wish I had spoken of more things. Honestly I was kind of nervous. Offutt Airforce Base is absolutely amazing. There is a whole town underground. On 9-11 President Bush was brought to OAB. And yes UP used to have a wonderful employee appreciation celebration. My Aunt worked there. It was so cool. Omaha has so many unique things. There could be a series of interesting videos made. Like University Of Nebraska Medical Center. We were brought the young man with Ebola, we saved his life. UNMC is one of the leading Healthcare facilities in this country. I could go on and on about Omaha. ♡

I moved to Florida from Omaha and I plan to move back Omaha. I lived in south Omaha near wells Fargo on 24th. I spent a lot of time in north Omaha. Benson park on Ames is so beautiful. Please understand why north O is in the current condition. Its by design. White flight and lack of proper investing. There are land lords buying up property in North O, halfway renovating them then renting them out only to take the money back to Elkhorn and Millard. There are some beautiful areas near miller park and Nelson Mandela Elementary. I love north O!!!! Its hard to see the rich history if all you ever do is trash the place
Omaha is a redline city, from 72nd street and east towards downtown the resources start to become limited. Anything west of 72nd is where resources and neighborhoods thrive. “South O” and “North O” now is really East Omaha being that the city is continuously expanding West. South and North Omaha are poorer neighborhoods because they are both east of 72nd. I lived in Wahoo Nebraska where I graduated then moved to Omaha for about 11 years. Now I live in San Diego Ca.
As a Native of Omaha I feel like you really should have put more effort into interviewing different perspectives... I grew up in South O but have lived all over the city... I can tell you some of this was accurate but a lot of this was given from only one cultural perspective.

The reason for the large population of gangs and gang activity in Omaha is based on Omaha's location. It is basically right in the center of the country. It is perfect for drug transporting. Fairly close to Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver. I-80 is a major drug route--and it runs right through Omaha.
Council Bluffs is where Omahas trash takes their drugs, smaller city with cops that don't want to do anything so it's easier to get away with everything.
That's also true. But I-35 was also a major drug route. When the street gangs started franchising in the 80's & 90's they hit East Des.Moines HARD. It was a hub that connected Omaha/Lincoln NE, Minneapolis/St. Paul MN, Kansas City MO/KS and the Quad Cities in the northeastern part of Iowa, along with Iowa City & Cedar Rapids, IA. East DSM got really violent during that time. I remember going back for one of the holidays (born and raised in Iowa but moved to the Kansas City area in the late 80's) and being astounded that DSM had more murders for the year than KC. It looks like things have gotten better but it still has its problems.

Over exaggerated and full of propaganda. North Omaha's not as dangerous as this video insinuates. There's nowhere in North Omaha that I'm afraid to go out of fear of being shot. People who get shot in this city usual get shot by people that they have a connection to. People aren't being shot randomly every other day by people they don't know. This guy's driving through these so called dangerous neighborhoods and no one's threatened or shot him. Omaha's no more dangerous than most cities it's size.
I grew up in North Omaha and the bloods and crips thing was a lot further back than 10 years ago. That began when I was a senior in high school in about 1988, as I remember it. Got real bad for awhile there afterwards. I moved away shortly after having gotten married and when I came back some years later, I chose to raise my kids on the Iowa side of the Missouri River where I still reside. You're right though. It's no where near as bad now as it was there for awhile & Nebraska's worst is nothing compared to other places I've been throughout my life. The North Omaha of the 1970's was a wonderful place, though. Just my two cents for whatever that's worth.
I just moved to North Omaha. I came from south side Oklahoma City. I also lived NW OKC in the 90s. Waaay worse back then. Now it's not bad. I'm loving Omaha
I think we are misinterpreting the reasons why North Omaha is the way it is. North Omaha in its current state is generations of bad policies and LACK of opportunities. There are major community efforts in place to turn the tide and it’s showing. Community members are making great moves (State Senator Terrell McKinney). We have our issues on that side of town but they are similar to other urban cores throughout the country. Redlining, job discrimination, white flight, the list goes on have plagued these communities for generations. Most of these people grew up poor with our asses, got a job that pushes them 2 cents over the poverty line, they’ve grown complacent or closed the door behind them to hinder others growth. The Midwest is the last frontier for Affordable housing. Omaha has amazing potential and has definitely turned the tide on most of the urban decay that we have come to be known for. - A Black Omaha Native

I'm sorry, but I feel you are really prejudice against North Omaha natives. I grew up North Omaha on Fontenelle Blvd, and the neighborhood was very welcoming, neighbors were there for each other, and I felt safe living there when I grew up as a child. Now, yes, maybe it is crime ridden, but every part if North Omaha is not full of people whom only wanted to steer their lives with crime. There is a lot of highly educated people that grew up in North Omaha as well, as well as being loving people. My elders were some of those people that looked out and cared for others in North Omaha. The next time you want to go around North Omaha judging that area, make sure you stop and interview them as well, get their aspect on what North "O" is like, not just interview people of your choosing. There is a lot if good people that come from that part of the city. Please be careful whom feet you tread upon.
It would be fine in the Summer but winters are very Cold. Just like Minnesota where I live! Mankato Minnesota is the absolute perfect place For a Family Except for ONE! It's 2 hours south Of Minneapolis. It's 50k population it has No Crime, NO Traffic problem It's Clean It's nice it's Green , it has Rivers Lakes Hills Bike Trails. & more. It's affordable. You can still get a nice 2 bedroom apartment for $800. Great schools nice people. The Only Downside is Six months of Cold including January and February which can be below zero!, if you spent winters elsewhere it's a great place!
Also home to many NFL football players over the years and some of the very best college running backs. Oh, and Omaha is home to two Heisman Trophy recipients.
I moved to Omaha 7 years ago and live near North O and ride my bike through these same areas in the video and have never had any problems with blacks or whites (yes there's whites and hispanics living in north O) that live in these areas. Like any bigger city that suffered from the problems of red-lining, white flight, etc. back in the 60s/70s there's still lots of run down houses and whatnot but it's not that bad as this guy tries to make it appear. Predatory out-of-state real estate companies who have been preying on poor people in these areas for years and Republican politicians protecting their interests (keeping resources in the burbs) is the biggest issue holding things back in Omaha. Regardless, there's people in the community trying to get things done in north O (e.g. starting black owned businesses, community projects, etc) and they are slowly stepping forward.

I used to live in Bellevue. My friends and I often went to restaurants in South O. While Hispanics were a major group in that quadrant of the city, it seemed like it was a pretty even mix of people. And whereas North O was poor and there wasn't much reason to go there, South O was very blue collar and that's where all the good Mexican and Asian restaurants are. I wouldn't have wandered around on the streets at midnight, but over all, I was comfortable there. West O was just sterile suburbia.
I live in south Omaha. Here’s what’s happened since I’ve been here. A few of the Hispanics don’t keep their dogs on leashes. Two of them attacked my dog while I was walking him and one was hit by a car and died. I’ve had to call the humane society several times to try to prevent that, but I don’t think they ever showed up considering the one got hit. A year before I moved in an ice cream man was pushing his cart when someone drove, shot him, and drove away. Some people burglarized a home while the kids were there. And before I bought my house I was unaware 2 people were shot in it and one of them died. Now since I’ve lived here a lady a few blocks down was stabbed in her home 11 times. My neighbors house has been spray painted. My vehicle has been broken into 3 times. There have been reports of vehicle theft. And someone broke into my house while I was sleeping and locked me in my room. I moved over here after I was told it’s actually a pretty good area. It’s far from it. Around me, I’ve never seen a neighborhood so inconsiderate of other people. They’ll blast their music all night long. Always block sidewalks. They don’t leash their dogs. Throw beer cans all over the place, break beer and liquor bottles on sidewalks. The few white people that live in this area are all older so they aren’t the ones doing it. A pest control salesman was telling me there was a group of them doing coke outside of their house. Most of this area looks really nice. So you wouldn’t think that it is this way. Idk where all of the money is coming from, but they all drive big new trucks and nice cars and are always improving their house. Just don’t be fooled by the way this area looks. It’s not good.
I just moved an hour outside of Omaha due to housing market. I felt it was time to sell. Was very happy to see my buyer a single dad wanting to do better for his kids. It’s very heartwarming. unfortunately, real estate market at least an hour outside of Omaha is this way: if you don’t have roughly 170 K to spend, you’re not gonna get a nice place for the most part. The nicest looking homes on the inside are usually the ones in the hood because they have been updated from top to bottom. Otherwise, you are going to get a transient home which has mostly not been kept up. I was told when looking for a house, you don’t want anything from 60th Street on down. this is very sound advice for not only Omaha but Lincoln as well. Both Omaha and Lincoln don’t really start getting nice until about 70th St. again, just my opinion. I lived in Lavista and Ralston area, both are pretty decent. Police are really great there and do a lot of patrolling. it’s definitely a great area to raise family. I got out because the market was great for selling and I wanted to downsize. I absolutely loved your guest in this episode, Nick. Such a warm hearted woman, which is the case with most people in Nebraska. Good people.
There's several nice neighborhoods east of 60th. Dundee. Happy hollow. Field club. Just to name a few. But yes. A majority of the nice areas are west of 72nd
I am born and raised in Nebraska Southside and even though shootings occur on the Northside. Shootings happen in south Omaha as well. I’ve moved away and came back because the cost of living and the schools are great. Drugs are a big issue here. There needs to be more treatment and less jail time. And this video really doesn’t represent the hoods looks like during the day you drove down major streets. You want a real tour. Hit me up

Omaha is a trafficking hub...not just drugs, but human trafficking as well. It's on a major east-west corridor, I-80, and like 20 miles from Hwy 71, one of the longest north-south roads in the country. The location isn't the only issue. Omaha is also home to huge, scheduled events, bringing in people and money from all over the world. The College World Series and Berkshire shareholder meetings are just a couple examples. And this is the Midwest, everyone has firearms. I'm willing to bet there's a higher percentage of gun ownership 20 miles outside of the city than in the city
Born and raised in Omaha (west). I left 8 years ago for work, but do miss the people. It’s a solid Midwest city that has lot going for it overall. Nebraska leaders need to figure out property tax relief ASAP. My sister pays X3 what I pay here in CO.

There is a great story in my town. Years ago a young man was shot and killed by some known trouble maker who was arrested and taken to jail. The dead young mans father went down and bailed him out.....😬- let’s just say it didn’t work out well for the murder. You just need people to stand up to the thugs. I've worked construction in Omaha several times, heard shooting several mornings leaving the hotel and gas stations shut down because they got robbed and several of our trucks were broken into quite a few times...
I just wanted to leave a comment about South Omaha about a situation that happened to me yesterday that I honestly made a tiktok about on my account. First off of like to say I’m a born and raised SOB female but where I grew up was annexed to Bellevue, near the 36th & Harrison line, but I was able at the time to go to South High, because my whole family went there, so my Mom said I lived with my Grandparents, because at the time, you couldn’t choose a different school like you can now? Anyways, yesterday I was leaving for an appointment, and I get in my vehicle and noticed a tire was low? Anyways, I stop at a nearby place at a place called Pitstop near 42nd & F street, which I did say on my tiktok 42nd and L street, which was not accepted right? So when I get there to this place, I normally lock my doors and take my keys, because I’m all about safety, but yesterday, I said omg to myself stop being paranoid? Anyways, I jumped out of my vehicle, and left my door wide open, purse and all in there, like a dummy, and as I’m airing this one tire, I noticed what looks apparently a homeless man, possibly? He’s dirty all over with even dirt on his face and clothes, and there’s a car parked next to me, and all of a sudden the man I don’t even know see’s apartment my dumb situation with my door open, and me I scrunched down airing my tire up, and this stranger sees the man coming suddenly approaching my vehicle, and he quickly intervenes, and I heard him arguing with that homeless looking man, but idk what in the heck is happening? So i jump in my vehicle, and this man I don’t know has been in front of this homeless man steering him away from me, and I heard him say “Get the f**k out of here!” Then the homeless man walked away, and i said to that stranger “What the hell happened?” He goes lady that man was trying to approach your vehicle, and I seen what he was maybe trying to do, (because my dumb self had my door open?) and he said I was just going to stop it from happening, because it looked like he was trying to rob you? I said omg thank you so much, and he goes you’re very welcome, and we both leave, and I thought omg, that’s exactly why I live here, is because everyone looks out for each other most of the time, and I’m the type that of woman to also help others, and this time, my good karma came back to me, when I least expected it, by probably a good SOB,also looking out for others? That’s exactly why I still live in South Omaha!

Nick I live in Omaha, but I was not born there. I just fell in love with the place. I'm 45 with 3 kids, and I had the chance to move, but I just couldn't. I couldn't leave this town behind, for all the things that you say, clean, low crime, jobs... So I appreciate you coming over and saying such nice things about our community. I'm proud of this place and I don't like when They call us a flyover state

Lived about an hr drive from Omaha all my life. My GF is from the Omaha area. She's lived in North "O" and the south side both. I've always believed authorities keep the south side safer due to the zoo. Henry Doorly Zoo is on the S side and one of the largest in the world. It brings in people from all over the world and millions too Omaha economy. They got to keep tourists safe or they'll stop coming.
My dad lives a couple blocks away from this neighborhood 0:28 I remember I was walking here and a couple dudes driving there car through a glass bottle at me, good thing they missed and they drove off.
I grew up in South O, lived there for 18yrs. The lady in the video is right.. everyone just gets along most of the time. There was a lot of crime/violence though. That’s where I learned to not take sh*t from anyone bc that’s how I survived. I moved to Bellevue for years (muuuch better) and then moved to North O for 8mos. It surprisingly felt more safe than South O. I saw waaaay more bad in South O. 115lb white girl in the North O neighborhood.. no problems even alone at 1am. I’m a South O girl, but I won’t ever knock North O. There are certain bad streets in all of the areas. I guess it depends on where you are.

Did you go through Iowa? Love to see your take on Des Moines and some of their small towns. I've lived in Olathe, KS for decades but I was born & raised in Iowa. The town I grew up in had a population of 54 and at least half of those people shared my last name. My first job in TV was with channel 17 in Des Moines (it's now KDSM the FOX affiliate; at the time I worked there, it was KCBR, the first and only independent TV station in Iowa) and at that point, Des Moines was, well....when your local SCA chapter gives themselves a French name that translates to "Heart of Boredom", you've got some work to do.
By all accounts, DSM has been doing that work. I have family that work in the entertainment industry in DSM and it has really picked up, partially because of the explosion of the entertainment industry in Kansas City. The lack of any decent creative community was one of the reasons I left & moved to KC. DSM's worth looking at, along with Ames & Iowa City.

Don't think you ever mentioned that Omaha is headquarters for Union Pacific RR. It houses the control center for all of UP rails across the country. Also, the air base there was Headquarters for Strategic Air Command, the baddest, meanest and most potent command in the USAF.

I wish I had spoken of more things. Honestly I was kind of nervous. Offutt Airforce Base is absolutely amazing. There is a whole town underground. On 9-11 President Bush was brought to OAB. And yes UP used to have a wonderful employee appreciation celebration. My Aunt worked there. It was so cool. Omaha has so many unique things. There could be a series of interesting videos made.
Like University Of Nebraska Medical Center. We were brought the young man with Ebola, we saved his life. UNMC is one of the leading Healthcare facilities in this country. I could go on and on about Omaha. ♡

I moved to Florida from Omaha and I plan to move back Omaha. I lived in south Omaha near wells Fargo on 24th. I spent a lot of time in north Omaha. Benson park on Ames is so beautiful. Please understand why north O is in the current condition. Its by design. White flight and lack of proper investing. There are land lords buying up property in North O, halfway renovating them then renting them out only to take the money back to Elkhorn and Millard. There are some beautiful areas near miller park and Nelson Mandela Elementary. I love north O!!!! Its hard to see the rich history if all you ever do is trash the place

Omaha is a redline city, from 72nd street and east towards downtown the resources start to become limited. Anything west of 72nd is where resources and neighborhoods thrive. “South O” and “North O” now is really East Omaha being that the city is continuously expanding West. South and North Omaha are poorer neighborhoods because they are both east of 72nd. I lived in Wahoo Nebraska where I graduated then moved to Omaha for about 11 years. Now I live in San Diego Ca.
As a Native of Omaha I feel like you really should have put more effort into interviewing different perspectives... I grew up in South O but have lived all over the city... I can tell you some of this was accurate but a lot of this was given from only one cultural perspective.

The reason for the large population of gangs and gang activity in Omaha is based on Omaha's location. It is basically right in the center of the country.
It is perfect for drug transporting. Fairly close to Chicago, St Louis, Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver. I-80 is a major drug route--and it runs right through Omaha.
Des Moines had a HUGE problem for the same reasons.
Council Bluffs is where Omahas trash takes their drugs, smaller city with cops that don't want to do anything so it's easier to get away with everything.

That's also true. But I-35 was also a major drug route. When the street gangs started franchising in the 80's & 90's they hit East Des.Moines HARD. It was a hub that connected Omaha/Lincoln NE, Minneapolis/St. Paul MN, Kansas City MO/KS and the Quad Cities in the northeastern part of Iowa, along with Iowa City & Cedar Rapids, IA.
East DSM got really violent during that time. I remember going back for one of the holidays (born and raised in Iowa but moved to the Kansas City area in the late 80's) and being astounded that DSM had more murders for the year than KC. It looks like things have gotten better but it still has its problems.

People who get shot in this city usual get shot by people that they have a connection to. People aren't being shot randomly every other day by people they don't know. I grew up in North Omaha and the bloods and crips thing was a lot further back than 10 years ago. That began when I was a senior in high school in about 1988, as I remember it. Got real bad for awhile there afterwards. I moved away shortly after having gotten married and when I came back some years later, I chose to raise my kids on the Iowa side of the Missouri River where I still reside.

It's no where near as bad now as it was there for awhile & Nebraska's worst is nothing compared to other places I've been throughout my life.

I think we are misinterpreting the reasons why North Omaha is the way it is. North Omaha in its current state is generations of bad policies and LACK of opportunities. There are major community efforts in place to turn the tide and it’s showing. Community members are making great moves (State Senator Terrell McKinney). We have our issues on that side of town but they are similar to other urban cores throughout the country. Redlining, job discrimination, white flight, the list goes on have plagued these communities for generations. Most of these people grew up poor with our asses, got a job that pushes them 2 cents over the poverty line, they’ve grown complacent or closed the door behind them to hinder others growth. The Midwest is the last frontier for Affordable housing. Omaha has amazing potential and has definitely turned the tide on most of the urban decay that we have come to be known for. - A Black Omaha Native

I'm sorry, but I feel you are really prejudice against North Omaha natives. I grew up North Omaha on Fontenelle Blvd, and the neighborhood was very welcoming, neighbors were there for each other, and I felt safe living there when I grew up as a child. Now, yes, maybe it is crime ridden, but every part if North Omaha is not full of people whom only wanted to steer their lives with crime. There is a lot of highly educated people that grew up in North Omaha as well, as well as being loving people. My elders were some of those people that looked out and cared for others in North Omaha. The next time you want to go around North Omaha judging that area, make sure you stop and interview them as well, get their aspect on what North "O" is like, not just interview people of your choosing. There is a lot if good people that come from that part of the city. Please be careful whom feet you tread upon.

I moved to Omaha 7 years ago and live near North O and ride my bike through these same areas in the video and have never had any problems with blacks or whites (yes there's whites and hispanics living in north O) that live in these areas. Like any bigger city that suffered from the problems of red-lining, white flight, etc. back in the 60s/70s there's still lots of run down houses and whatnot but it's not that bad as this guy tries to make it appear.
Predatory out-of-state real estate companies who have been preying on poor people in these areas for years and Republican politicians protecting their interests (keeping resources in the burbs) is the biggest issue holding things back in Omaha. Regardless, there's people in the community trying to get things done in north O (e.g. starting black owned businesses, community projects, etc) and they are slowly stepping forward.

I used to live in Bellevue. My friends and I often went to restaurants in South O. While Hispanics were a major group in that quadrant of the city, it seemed like it was a pretty even mix of people. And whereas North O was poor and there wasn't much reason to go there, South O was very blue collar and that's where all the good Mexican and Asian restaurants are. I wouldn't have wandered around on the streets at midnight, but over all, I was comfortable there. West O was just sterile suburbia.

I live in south Omaha. Here’s what’s happened since I’ve been here. A few of the Hispanics don’t keep their dogs on leashes. Two of them attacked my dog while I was walking him and one was hit by a car and died. I’ve had to call the humane society several times to try to prevent that, but I don’t think they ever showed up considering the one got hit. A year before I moved in an ice cream man was pushing his cart when someone drove, shot him, and drove away. Some people burglarized a home while the kids were there. And before I bought my house I was unaware 2 people were shot in it and one of them died. Now since I’ve lived here a lady a few blocks down was stabbed in her home 11 times. My neighbors house has been spray painted. My vehicle has been broken into 3 times. There have been reports of vehicle theft. And someone broke into my house while I was sleeping and locked me in my room. I moved over here after I was told it’s actually a pretty good area. It’s far from it. Around me, I’ve never seen a neighborhood so inconsiderate of other people. They’ll blast their music all night long. Always block sidewalks. They don’t leash their dogs. Throw beer cans all over the place, break beer and liquor bottles on sidewalks. The few white people that live in this area are all older so they aren’t the ones doing it. A pest control salesman was telling me there was a group of them doing coke outside of their house. Most of this area looks really nice. So you wouldn’t think that it is this way. Idk where all of the money is coming from, but they all drive big new trucks and nice cars and are always improving their house. Just don’t be fooled by the way this area looks. It’s not good.

I just moved an hour outside of Omaha due to housing market. I felt it was time to sell. Was very happy to see my buyer a single dad wanting to do better for his kids. It’s very heartwarming. unfortunately, real estate market at least an hour outside of Omaha is this way: if you don’t have roughly 170 K to spend, you’re not gonna get a nice place for the most part. The nicest looking homes on the inside are usually the ones in the hood because they have been updated from top to bottom. Otherwise, you are going to get a transient home which has mostly not been kept up. I was told when looking for a house, you don’t want anything from 60th Street on down. this is very sound advice for not only Omaha but Lincoln as well. Both Omaha and Lincoln don’t really start getting nice until about 70th St. again, just my opinion. I lived in Lavista and Ralston area, both are pretty decent. Police are really great there and do a lot of patrolling. it’s definitely a great area to raise family. I got out because the market was great for selling and I wanted to downsize. I absolutely loved your guest in this episode, Nick. Such a warm hearted woman, which is the case with most people in Nebraska. Good people.

Omaha is a trafficking hub...not just drugs, but human trafficking as well. It's on a major east-west corridor, I-80, and like 20 miles from Hwy 71, one of the longest north-south roads in the country. The location isn't the only issue. Omaha is also home to huge, scheduled events, bringing in people and money from all over the world. The College World Series and Berkshire shareholder meetings are just a couple examples.
And this is the Midwest, everyone has firearms. I'm willing to bet there's a higher percentage of gun ownership 20 miles outside of the city than in the city

Nebraska leaders need to figure out property tax relief ASAP. My sister pays X3 what I pay here in CO.

1:25 this is 24th street and there is about 6 different gangs alone on this street. Duce4mafia Lothrop Camden to name a few and many others all around. I was born and raised right down the street. this is 24th locust in the video I lived in the same house for almost 18years on the duce. Yes Omaha is ruff I seen my cousin get killed in front of me I have been robbed at gunpoint and my mom and dad have both been shot. I have lost numerous relatives to gun violence. My dad was on crack real bad growing up but he changed his life around and has been sober almost 20yrs. Omaha is segregated to a sense north O predominantly black South O Mexican and out west white but it s mixed you can find all races everywhere.

There is a great story in my town. Years ago a young man was shot and killed by some known trouble maker who was arrested and taken to jail. The dead young mans father went down and bailed him out.....😬- let’s just say it didn’t work out well for the murder.

I've worked construction in Omaha several times, heard shooting several mornings leaving the hotel and gas stations shut down because they got robbed and several of our trucks were broken into quite a few times...

I just wanted to leave a comment about South Omaha about a situation that happened to me yesterday that I honestly made a tiktok about on my account. First off of like to say I’m a born and raised SOB female but where I grew up was annexed to Bellevue, near the 36th & Harrison line, but I was able at the time to go to South High, because my whole family went there, so my Mom said I lived with my Grandparents, because at the time, you couldn’t choose a different school like you can now? Anyways, yesterday I was leaving for an appointment, and I get in my vehicle and noticed a tire was low? Anyways, I stop at a nearby place at a place called Pitstop near 42nd & F street, which I did say on my tiktok 42nd and L street, which was not accepted right? So when I get there to this place, I normally lock my doors and take my keys, because I’m all about safety, but yesterday, I said omg to myself stop being paranoid? Anyways, I jumped out of my vehicle, and left my door wide open, purse and all in there, like a dummy, and as I’m airing this one tire, I noticed what looks apparently a homeless man, possibly? He’s dirty all over with even dirt on his face and clothes, and there’s a car parked next to me, and all of a sudden the man I don’t even know see’s apartment my dumb situation with my door open, and me I scrunched down airing my tire up, and this stranger sees the man coming suddenly approaching my vehicle, and he quickly intervenes, and I heard him arguing with that homeless looking man, but idk what in the heck is happening? So i jump in my vehicle, and this man I don’t know has been in front of this homeless man steering him away from me, and I heard him say “Get the f**k out of here!” Then the homeless man walked away, and i said to that stranger “What the hell happened?” He goes lady that man was trying to approach your vehicle, and I seen what he was maybe trying to do, (because my dumb self had my door open?) and he said I was just going to stop it from happening, because it looked like he was trying to rob you? I said omg thank you so much, and he goes you’re very welcome, and we both leave, and I thought omg, that’s exactly why I live here, is because everyone looks out for each other most of the time, and I’m the type that of woman to also help others, and this time, my good karma came back to me, when I least expected it, by probably a good SOB,also looking out for others? That’s exactly why I still live in South Omaha!
Drove to Omaha from NY, I was surprised at some of the African American history there, the downtown area has the cleanest streets I've seen.
It’s typical flat land country with high taxes , bitter cold winters, humid summers, land locked isolation. Jobs were mediocre decades ago, maybe better now 🤷♂️

Most business have moved out of the older parts of the city. Most of the jobs left on the east side are either minimum wage or low wage. Omaha also has a near non existent transit system so getting around is rather difficult. I live in Omaha and sadly you got a lot wrong in this piece. Clearly you did not do a lot of fact checking.

Nick I live in Omaha, but I was not born there. I just fell in love with the place. I'm 45 with 3 kids, and I had the chance to move, but I just couldn't. I couldn't leave this town behind, for all the things that you say, clean, low crime, jobs... So I appreciate you coming over and saying such nice things about our community. I'm proud of this place and I don't like when They call us a flyover state
OPD doesn't like to comment on gang activity. This is probably a good thing because it won't glorify gang X did this or that. Gangs have always been in omaha but homless has seemed to increase in 2022

Lived about an hr drive from Omaha all my life. My GF is from the Omaha area. She's lived in North "O" and the south side both. I've always believed authorities keep the south side safer due to the zoo. Henry Doorly Zoo is on the S side and one of the largest in the world. It brings in people from all over the world and millions too Omaha economy. They got to keep tourists safe or they'll stop coming.

I grew up in South O, lived there for 18yrs. The lady in the video is right.. everyone just gets along most of the time. There was a lot of crime/violence though. That’s where I learned to not take sh*t from anyone bc that’s how I survived. I moved to Bellevue for years (muuuch better) and then moved to North O for 8mos. It surprisingly felt more safe than South O. I saw waaaay more bad in South O. 115lb white girl in the North O neighborhood.. no problems even alone at 1am. I’m a South O girl, but I won’t ever knock North O. There are certain bad streets in all of the areas. I guess it depends on where you are.
