A great adventure and perfect weather for a gongoozle! I love coming across narrow boats with silly names but you're right, nature is definitely the best part of Canal life! Thanks for sharing Ryan, a very enjoyable watch! 👍🥾🙂

Cool I just looked up what a gongoozler is and that was definitely me on this trip 😊 I was loving looking at the canal boat names, I was going to add a part in the video about it and kind of wished I had now but ended up cutting it. My favourite canal boat name was ‘freedom’ because it’s what I feel when hiking. Thanks for watching Nathan and thanks for teaching me a cool new word 👍🏼

Well done Ryan and thanks for posting. I did that walk in 2023 but in the opposite direction, unfortunately i walked the detour but lucky you with the canal boat. East of Devizes the path was massively overgrown and it was raining which made it very unpleasant and i got soaked. That canal towpath is maintained quite well for most of its length as is the Thames Path ( another one i have done the year before ) but a couple of weeks ago in the hottest week of the year i walked the Oxford canal. Be warned if you intend to walk that one that there are long sections north of Aynho that are unmaintained and it’s an absolute nightmare to fight your way through the undergrowth, I got cut to ribbons. I never saw one hiker on the whole length to Coventry as the canal is not so popular.
Good luck on your future walks

Boat rides, days of water, freight trains and wild camps....loved the video! Bit jealous of all your adventures!

    Really loved watching this adventure.
I love walking along the canal paths through Wiltshire.
Taken a few hikes and wild camps from my place in Melksham down near Bradford on Avon and found it so peaceful.
    Liked and subscribed 😊

Glad you enjoyed my friend. I grew up in Melksham and I love this canal. Hiking the whole canal was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. It was awesome to hike it all, I had a lot of fun exploring it. Will definitely hike it again at some point 😊

Those were big mileages in a day but each to their own! A real change from the Israel Trail. Thanks for the vdo's.

The days were long and with the flat canal the miles just ticked up, I never planned the first day to be so much but I kept pushing to find a place to camp into the night. My knees definitely felt the big mileage though, they were not happy at the end of this. I’ve fallen in love with canal hiking though and will be doing more in the future. Thanks for watching mate 👍🏼 much appreciated. Hope you are all good and getting a bit of hiking in this summer.

Sounds tough but enjoyable, I'll have to consider some canal walks. I'm actually off this morning to try my first hike of the year as I've finally got some energy back, it's a 2 day walk along the Itchen Way from Cheriton to Winchester with a wild camp somewhere around Winchester (St Catherine's Hill?). Looking forward to it. :-)

It was a lot of fun. I saw a couple kayaking a section, they would overtake me then they would have to drag the kayak out at a lock and walk around and I would catch them up 😂 we leap frogged each other for a few hours. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

I love the Kennet & Avon canal, I grew up in Wiltshire and have walked it a lot. I’ve wanted to do this adventure for a while now and it was a lot of fun to actually do it. There wasn’t loads of places to wild camp as big sections of the canal can be a bit busy but that added to the adventure. I enjoy finding little places to wild camp. Glad I’ve inspired you to do your own canal adventure 👍🏼 hope you enjoy it as much as I did 😊

It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now as i grew up near the Kennet & Avon canal and I have hiked sections of it alot. Doing this hike has made me fall in love with canals even more and will definitely be hiking more of them in the future. They are so peaceful 😊 thanks for watching John 👍🏼

@@RyansNextAdventure I've watched most of your adventures Ryan and have enjoyed every minute. Just got back from walking the Peddars, Norfolk Coastal, then train from Cromer to Norwich to finish the walk on the Boudica and walk home from Diss as I'm just across the border. No canals in Suffolk/Norfolk, but we do have the Hereward's Way to Ely and Angles so they'll be next before venturing further afield as you've sold me on the river/canal walks! Thanks again for taking the time to share your adventures!

@@johndaniel6168 glad you have enjoyed the hiking adventures 👍🏼 much appreciated. I’ve not heard of the Peddars Way before and just looked it up. Canals are also flat so you can tick up a lot of mileage each day on them, I did find a a bit tricky finding places to wild camp but I am quite picky about wild camping as I like to not be seen and get a good night sleep, but it wasn’t too bad finding a places. Always good to hear from a fellow hiker and hope you can plan a nice canal/river hike in the future 👍🏼

Dunno how you do so many miles in a day! I'd be had pushed to do those distances on my Mountain Bike before I got a sore ass! And walking, about 16 miles would do me. Great vid btw.

      @RyansNextAdventure  Рік тому

This was definitely big mileage for me and not the norm, the long days and flat canal meant I just plodded all day. My legs and hips were a bit sore though. Glad you enjoyed 👍🏼
