The Washhouses are there to wash clothes principaly. They were needed because there houses where very small. Impossible to have a place were to wash there clothes, and they coudn,t afford to buy washmachines. Fishermen clothes were needed to wash every day so this places were created for that.
Great video guys, I've never been along that side of the river, cool to see. Weird about the price to visit the Port lodges, I've been to Porto about 5 times, and try to visit a different lodge every visit. I've never had to pay for a tour, wonder if that's a new thing.
Thank you, Cindy, for your lovely comment! It was so interesting walking over that stunning bridge and along the other side of the river. Our friends, Two Creative Travelers ,were in Porto earlier this year and went on a wine tasting that was way cheaper... maybe it's the tour that's expensive? We'll look into it when we go back to Porto... I'm hoping we'll get a housesit there one day 😃😁 ~ Mandy
@@zafira976 It was our first week in Portugal. We ended up spending 2 years there and made over 100 videos... extolling the deliciousness of Portuguese food.
Gorgeous views! And I could see the Eiffel Tower resemblance before you said anything Lee!
Thank you for the tour guys 😊 love Porto!
Glad you liked it Yaman. Portugal has been a nice surprise for us. So many interesting places to visit! 👍
LOVE those old port boats. I've seen ancient archive footage on UA-cam of those in action. Fascinating.
I'd love to see that.
Porto is beautiful I took so many walks there 🙂. Happy to see it again.
You inspired us with your Portugal videos... And we thank you for that. 😊🙏😊
@@FrugalTravellers oh how nice of you 😍
I'm astonished to see that public washhouse. I have a feeling there is one in Lisbon too.
Yes, we walked past the one in Alfama... and included it in the Lisbon walking tour video.
@@FrugalTravellers oh wow! I would love to see that!
The fish I had in Afurada is the best I had in Portugal. The meal we had was also shockingly cheap
That's great to know. We've been incredibly impressed with the fish in Portugal. Delicious! 😋
