@@MeMySkirtandI I mean, the company isn't without controversy even within the larger Christian community (some Lutheran and Methodist groups come to mind). Plus, there isn't really anything holy or sacred about the recipe that would prevent an evil magic-user from recreating it

Yes your kid gets a real diploma. No they don't have to graduate from an accredited school. Yes, they can go to college.
All my homeschooling mom friends are asking highschool questions and I'm a homeschool graduate, lol.

I grew up homeschooled in Delaware, and our area doesn’t get much snow- so when we did get snow, Mom would put off schoolwork because she wanted to join us outside😂 honestly it was more for her than for us. And “snow day” breakfast was always peanut butter toast with hot chocolate :)

After joining the Christian meme community, and becoming quite up to date with the current memes, it's actually quite fun to quiz myself when watching these and guessing who posted what meme. 🤣

If you think Turkish delight is awful, you’ve never had decent Turkish delight. I had only ever tasted the horrid sticky syrupy version but then I tried some from an actual Turkish restaurant in my city and it’s amazing.

In case anyone didn't get the sloth joke, it's a reference to "the seven deadly sins," one of which, in older English, was "sloth," meaning laziness.

Boss sent a case of beer to our houses to celebrate a milestone. It’s still sitting in my kitchen. I’m debating using it to make bread. Wish I had an option for an equivalent dollar amount in cookies

Oh my word, I used to watch Superbook, but in Afrikaans (it was called Wonderboek)! I never knew there was an English version. Those squeaky, grating voices stay with you for life.

Turkish Delight is very much NOT custard. It is a super gross rose flavored gelatin dessert.
Rose is only one of many, many flavors. Most of which really are amazingly delicious when bought from a proper confectionery
@@Lhikan634 yes, but rose is the traditional flavor, and the mix of super sweet taste and the smell of your grandma's potpourri is really gross.
@@ItchyNavel Only one of several traditional flavors. Others include lemon and bergamot orange. Rose is actually a very popular flavor for various foods in the Middle East where it originates and doesn't have the association with potpourri there. The real deal is quite good but generally won't be the typical American flavors. A lot of the stuff that makes it to the States is cheap imitation that decidedly isn't Turkish delight at all.

It's Turkish Delight, and that little detail is possibly one of the smartest moves C.S. Lewis made in the whole book. Remember the story takes place during World War II. During World War II, Great Britain had a heavy ration on sugar. Brits received only enough sugar required to cause the chemical reaction to cook certain foods. Turkish Delight is a dessert very heavily dependent on sugar. It's almost sugar on top of sugar (the best American equivalent is probably fudge). Imagine giving a kid, who has been on a sugar fast for a couple or few years, a dessert where sugar is the majority of the dessert. At that point, you might as well have given Edmund crack cocaine! And just as a drug addict will steal, lie and cheat to get his drug fix, when the witch asks for Edmund's siblings in exchange for more Turkish Delight, he easily and happily complies. Now that's good writing!
