Great video. I would never have guessed a candle would make the filter black. I know outside smoke from fires will also turn filter black. Thank goodness for dad’s knowledge.
Dude, I was freaking out. Thanks for the help. All three of mine were black and yes, my wife was burning candles like crazy over the christmas holiday.
Can't thank you enough for this video. Just put in an 18K unit and went to change filter and it was black. Was panicked I was gonna have to call the repair man. Had just started burning a new candle and it was the culprit. Thanks, thanks, thanks for the peace of mind!
I just had the same problem. My air conditioning filter was coal black. I am serious when I say the color of coal. We had recently burned through 2 large candles I bought at Target. There was soot on the glass of the candle. Thank you so much for your well done video.
Thank you for this. I feel reassured it's not carbon monoxide. I just changed my air filter and had my HVAC service literally a few days ago, and it was black as hell. And something told me to check my air filter just now. When I checked, it was gray/black again. I guess I won't be burning candles anymore. LOL.
If you touch all your returns, and they are all pretty clean, then ask the landlord if there are other returns that might be connected to your system. Maybe it is the neighbors.
what would cause your filter to be slightly wet all the time during spring and summer? Had the condensation line clean and blown out and unit is less than a year old? They tell me its normal to have a little water on it?
If the fins on the coil are even slightly bent, it might drip. If the condensate line is not quite "pitched" enough, it might seep over. Or it's just sweating faster than it can keep up. I have the same issue. I replace my filter once a month in the summer months.
@@dannydyi HVAC guy came out since it is still under warranty and he said he was going to replace the coil, would be easier than putting a drip pan or some catch thing? I said fine I just don't want water sitting inside it or on my filter all the time because of mold. The filters are always rusty when I remove them because the metal on the filter stays wet. Hopefully a new coil fixes the issue.

Thank you for the video. Huge help. Thanks
Thank you, I was wondering why my filter was black, my girl-friend lights up candles 🕯
I was going nuts trying to figure it out. Lol
Now imagine all those artificial scent coming out those candles you’re breathing in.

yesss candles & incense will turn filters black...subbed by the way
❤❤❤❤❤
damn candles
So what if no candles?
Hmmm... That's a head scratcher.
Mine is only very light grey. Is it time to change it?
I would.
So I am not burning candles, I am in an apartment, could it be neighbors smoking or burning candles?

There are zero reasons to burn a candle in a modern home. They are a novelty. Only keep them around for emergency power outages. Period.
I can think of a few... They smell good, ambience, roasting tiny marshmallows, communicating with the dead, etc.
My dear, you just helped an old lady solve a HUGE mystery.
Now my daughter's mad. 😂😂😂
She has to throw her candle out AND buy me two new filters.
