Hi, yes! But this depends on the city. My architect is limited on certain city due to city codes. Where is your adu located?

Two questions :
I’m assuming you have to be present for city inspection as an owner builder or can your sub contractors fill in for you ?
And
Does the city inspector work around your availability or do they give you the day and time and you have to make sure you’re free ?

You can schedule the day for the inspection when you call the city. They will give days of opening.
For the time, you have to call the day of inspection. early am around (7:00 - 8:00am) to find out the time.
Your subcontractor can fill in for you if you are not available, as long they know how to answer your inspector questions.
City Inspector here: Not really. It's best for both homeowner and contractor for the specific trade under inspection to be present but if one was chosen, it'll be the contractor so any corrections can be explained and comprehended, along with additional need to knows
2. We may be able to provide a time that's flexible with both inspector/homeowner but typically, an exact time isn't assured unless it's a special called time (extra fee) inspection.
how much did you pay for the split unit installation?
$752 each for the unit. My installation was included for the electrical.

Thank you for watching! I also live in LA County. My advice is first to get an architect to design your plans and have them submit to the city for approval (the cost is around 4k-5k). Simultaneously figure out your budget, as a owner-builder you can control the pace of your project 😉. Feel free to email me for additional questions and concerns.
