    Whoa this is so much better than my dorm at Yonsei! lol. It's a very similar room structure (I lived in our International House too), but we had separate communal bathrooms, no balcony, and no power adapters (we had to buy them lol).
    The 'shoe closet' you named was actually our one closet, each roommate had one (not a separate shoe closet and a clothing closet). And there was a little cave space under our bed to fit the luggage. But other than that, it's really similar :)

I'm definitely wanting to apply since I'll be graduating next year 😬 I've already been to Seoul before last summer to learn the language and absolutely loved it so I'm going to try super hard to raise my grades even more and apply or at least go to a college that has Ewha as a study abroad.

    hi, so you're studying abroad at ehwa?? are you graduating with a degree there? and are korean and international students separated??

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +77

      Zoey Tan no, I am graduating from my home university in America, as they did not have my degree program at Ewha. and students are only separated in the dorms -- classes are mixed! I had both classes where it was mostly international, and classes where there were no more than 3 international students amongst a sea of regular Korean students, but all classes are taught in English regardless (unless you very specifically sign up for otherwise)

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +14

      Bárbara Vieira the international dorms have NO CURFEW!!!! you can access the building at any time of day so long as you have your building card! HOWEVER, Hanwoori, the dorm house for native students, does in fact have a curfew and YES it is strict. one of my native Korean friends from ewha has been locked out and needed to find friends' houses to sleep at on multiple occasions 😅 but you can enter the international dorms at a crisp 4 in the morning if you want, no one will stop you or tell you otherwise!

    Hey ! I'm considering studying at Ewha next year. Even though it's a woman's university, male international students are allowed aren't they ? Also, is it expensive in central Seoul ? I heard Ewha is in the hyper-center of the city, thus the prices are way higher. Thanks :)

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +24

      ewha accepts men as long as they are "non degree seeking" meaning that they cannot GRADUATE from the university (so why go full-time, right?) but both genders are accepted for study abroad!! and in terms of expense...it really depends on what you are used to. from the point of view of urban americans such as myself, in general, everything is much cheaper than what we are used to back home. but compared to other places in korea, yes, central seoul will be MUCH more expensive. it is important to remember that a significant portion of the country is still considerably rural, and that cities are always much more expensive than countrysides. with that being said, i still greatly recommend ewha!! and good luck applying!!!!

      Mana Ch in terms of a brand, i really liked 비요뜨 (viyott) because they have like, a yogurt flavor and then a pocket of things you can mix in, like plain yogurt with choco balls or something coffee flavored, and i liked the extra crunchy texture! but in terms of flavor, i really loved the apple flavored yogurt drinks! in general, i usually bought drinkable yogurts, since they were better for on the go~

      +xRawriix no, you do not get to choose which dorm building you are in - some people who applied for housing late didn't get a room at all and had to find an apartment off campus! i am an exchange student, but I am only here for the first semester of 2016 ~ i wish i was here for the second!! and i would recommend comparing classes between the two schools, as well as things like size, location, etc...obviously i recommend ewha though!

    Hi, I'm 16 and I'm interested in going to Ewha after I finish my high school curriculum, just so you know aha :D Anyway, I'd like to ask you something:
    1. Do you pay the rent for the dorm monthly or what ? And how long and how much is one period of staying ?
    2. Is there any special requirement for students to stay inside the dorm such as high marks or anything ?
    Sorry for my bad English TvT Have a good day girl !

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +4

      1) you pay at once for the dorm per semester, not by month. there is a date the money is due by - i don't know the date specifically, but it's before you move in. I believe you can move in a week before classes, but you need to leave either the last day of finals or during the finals week, you cannot stay later than that, even by one day. You cannot move in early or move out late because there are winter and summer courses where students may need the room, too. The price per semester has been mentioned multiple times in other comments, but i believe it is $1,600 USD for a double room (having a roommate) but you should check because i'm starting to forget some details 😅😅
      2) no special requirement! it's "first come first serve" meaning that there is a limited number of rooms, and not enough for everyone, so the first people to apply get a room and if you wait too long, you may not get one! so apply as soon as you can!!
      you english is good!! never ever be embarrassed of it!!! definitely enough to get through ewha lol but if you want to go to ewha for full-time undergraduate, you may be placed in a different dormitory! the regular student dorm is Hanwoori, and they have different requirements - for example, they have a curfew 😩 you should check out my "how to apply to ewha as an undergraduate" video if you have any more questions about that, because i go through the application with you and there are a lot of answered comments that may help too 😊 good luck, and you have a good day, too!!!!!

    Hiii! Thank you for sharing this video!
    First of all, i'm planning to join the international summer program next year, if i decide to stay at the on-campus dorm, will i stay at the same dorm like yours?
    And then, is there any cafeteria or convenience store near the dorm to supply my daily meals?
    Thank you :)

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  8 років тому +1

      there are many international dorms - I was in iHouse (international house) in which there are 4 buildings. It is next to the graduate dorm, where they also put a lot of international students, and starting in Fall semester of 2016 there will be eHouse. I believe you can choose between iHouse and eHouse, but you cannot choose which specific building. Like I was in iHouse Building D, but I do not believe you can specifically ask for Building D.
      If you watch my "Day in the Life" video, you can see one of the two main dining halls is SUPER close to the iHouse and graduate dorms!!! Like a 4 minute walk, if even. And they have the cheapest food!! It's also really good quality ^^ later in that video too you can see me walk to the CU, which is a convenience store also super super close to the dorms. The other dorm building, Hanwoori, which is for regular students, has it's own food court. I do not know where eHouse will be located, but I am sure you will have no problem finding food! Ewha does a really good job of making sure students have access to food :)

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  8 років тому +1

      +Karina Amaliantami randomly! although if you choose eHouse, I believe you can include roommate preferences. Not sure if this is just an option for eHouse or if this will start being available for all dorms, though. I certainly wasn't given any "preference" options 😬😅

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +4

      one week before classes start. you cannot come earlier than that as there are two summer sessions and one winter session where students are actively using the dorms. if you need to be in the area before then, there are plenty of accommodations in edae and sinchon and i know a handful of people who had to use them, and they all had positive experiences!

      for a double, meaning i had a roommate, i paid about $1,600 USD for the semester--so that is around 1,700,000 korean won. the single room, where you live by yourself, is more expensive, but i do not know that number for sure

      100% !! you can attend graduate school and go for your masters, but you will need to be very good at Korean, since your classes will be taught in it. actually, Yonsei has some really great graduate programs for international students, and you can stay in the dorms😊 to be honest, i don't know much about Ewha's graduate programs, but I know there is a Korean Language Program where the only classes you take are Korean, and they allow you to live in the graduate students dorms!

      Christine Guillo not really - the alphabet is very easy to learn and read, and you can pick up little words and phrases quite easily just from going out to eat, shop, explore, whatever! but in Seoul, English is quite common, so it's like a nice little bumper ^^ but everyone adjusts differently -- I had absolutely no culture shock and had no difficulties adjusting to anything, even though I didn't know Korean, but everyone is different. at any rate, good luck!!!!!❤️😊

    • @rachelrosediary

      +chlobear +chlobear earning money while abroad is tricky -- if you want to work in korea, you need your alien registration card first before applying, and that takes weeks to process. some schools offer to pay students to blog their experiences while away, but i'm not sure how common that is. everyone is different! one of my friends here is being offered modeling gigs fairly regularly by scouts out on the streets, another one plans on getting a job on campus as soon as her card comes in, and i personally just saved enough so that i would not have to work

    how much did it cost you to get in the university and to get books? and the dorm?

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому +6

      Yosy Ortiz the dorm is the only price that stays the same for everyone -- for a double room, the cheapest option, where you have one roommate, it is about $1,600 USD for one semester. Since I was an exchange student, I paid my home university's normal tuition, not Ewha's, but many different situations exist. I believe I only bought my Korean language textbooks -- I recommend waiting until the last possible second, even during the semester, to buy books because many classes don't even use them, or use them once and you could have saved money by not buying them at all!! but book prices vary greatly. overall, however, I would say they were much cheaper than what I was used to in America

      Rapmon still dont know im married to him of course there are some Filipinos! I'm not sure how large the community is, but during orientation they try to group people together based on native language + country of origin to make things more comfortable ~ and Ewha has a service where a taxi comes to pick you up from the airport and drives you to the school. In my case, since I was in the international dorms, the taxi drove directly into the underground shared parking lot of the dorms where students were waiting to check us in and direct us to our rooms. I'm not sure how the taxi system will go over with the new dorm, but at least you will have transportation from the airport covered!

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  8 років тому

      +Christella Chen the price is per semester! at Ewha there are three buildings where exchange/international/visiting students can live, being iHouse, iHouse 2 or the graduate student dorm. I know the bathrooms and general layout of the room vary a little between buildings, and some are older than others, so that would explain why some rooms looked a little different :) it all just depends on which building you are put in

    Hi, Thanks for the tour. I am thinking of doing a language course at Ewha and been doing some reading on it, but still have some questions. I was wondering about the kitchen...I read on the website that they only allow "Light cooking, so no rice cooker etc"... Is there really no proper kitchen? I mean, how do you feed yourself? :D I also read, you'll get access to the gym as well. What are your experiences with that? Thanks for sharing :D

    • @rachelrosediary
      @rachelrosediary  7 років тому

      the "kitchenette" offered in the dorms is grossly disappointing, to be honest...you have a sink and a microwave. and i needed a step ladder to reach the microwave lol...and there is no oven anywhere, in any dorm. in the grad dorm, however, there is a larger kitchen with burners/stove tops! everyone has access, and a lot of my chinese friends used it quite a bit. basically i fed myself by microwaving ramen between class, eating at the cafeterias on campus, or eating out in edae or shinchon -- really not much you can cook inside the dorms :( and as for the gym, it looked alright, but i never used it because you need to pay a fee. the gym at my home university is free so i was a little annoyed and stubborn hahaha. but otherwise, the food on campus is 1000% better quality than i'm used to in america and the campus is BEAUTIFUL if that helps the cause 😊
