I listened to this as my life was spiraling downwards. It mirrored the feeling I had. Life is easier now and I still love this song. It reminds me to never forget where I came from.
I remember listening this song over 7 years ago and yet here i am again. I know everyone is probably gone but i am here. I was just a depressed kid at the time and listening this made me calm. I always thought it will be always better when you grow up. It didn't. Lot of things passed, lot of terrible lessons learned and now i'm listening this after all these years while smoking. Like you say , it's just underrated. Hope we can survive
This reminds me of a quote from the last episode of Bojack Horseman (great show if you’ve never seen it) - “sometimes life’s a bitch and then you keep living”. Some things (often music) reminds you of the rough patches you went through in the past. Things maybe never really get better permanently, but the point is you kept on living, and maybe there’s some comfort in knowing that whatever you’re feeling now will one day just be a memory - sometimes it’s enough just to want to be alive and survive to see the story unfold.
The lyrics to this song represent the truths in our society. A society that is blind to the real world, and a society thriving on image and the need to be wanted. People don't understand the simplicity of happiness and what it takes to lead a full life. I thank ghostpoet for making me reflect on the past and regret nothing. We can learn from this man.
Seeing you directly respond to your fans with dedication and care is possibly the most magical thing I have seen all week. You're not just a fantastic musician, but a wonderful human being.
Last night was the night I’ve been imagining since he was born!! My sixteen year old son warwick came and stayed over at myn last night, we chatted like I always hoped we would back then, there was a moment when survive it was playing, told him to shut it listlen cos I’m giving you skills, knowledge love etc!! Bind strengthened massively!!! Thank you ghost poets! I write too so I know what’s bullocks and ain’t yeh!! Love love love to you guys ❤️
Yo man.... This just hit me on a random Spotify playlist...I never really listen to music but I put some on today to clean my place while symbolically cleaning out old memories.... I'm not gonna get too into detail but this shit is saving me right now man. Thank you. Please keep doing what you're doing. I'll listen to every track from here on out.
Add this man, Ghostpoet, to the list of UK artists that have taken an American art form and improved it, and then OWNED it. This man and Roots Manuva - well 'ard.
I see my comment got quiet a lot of attention off of the community, and would like to say that my uncle died a few days after the posting of that comment. He died a painless death in hospital by the side of his mother. Not sure why anyone would be dying to know, it just seemed fitting
Omg, The "My so-and-so was terminal and your (insert item) kept his spirits up" story. I see this shit every once a month or so. No one really gives a shit. We all have uncles who died. Put a different bait on the pitty hook.
I remember when this came out and it was on 6 Music frequently for quite a while. My head was in a terrible place and then I'd hear this and remember to keep things in perspective.
i watched him live in nottingham last tuesday, he was incredible, i also got the chance to meet Obaro (Ghostpoet) and the band members. can't say I've ever met a more humble and appreciative artist. Thank god musicians like this exist!
I just came across this beautiful voice on Triple J, here in Australia. I grew up in London (Highbury) and emigrated here 13 years ago ... not a day goes by I don't miss my roots, but I made a life here for my kids. Ghostpoet (great name btw) your soulful social commentary makes my heart happy * * "
I just stumbled upon this. As an American I don't know why some Americans say UK hiphop is not good because of the accent. That to me is a bullshit lie. This is dope. As long as someone has lyrics, can flow on beat, metaphors, mic presence then it is dope to me.
My "youtuberepeat" counter is now at 24. And that's just for today. This song has helped me through one of the toughest periods of my life. Thanks, Ghostpoet.
This song got me through so many tough fuckin' times man. I heard it one night walking round London and it just changed my mood. Still does. Thank you GP, seriously.
just too DEEP this is REAL life. no more no less. and for this guy to explain it so beautifully, well makes you wanna live on, fight on through the toughest battles that life delivers on a daily basis. wisdom & heart, the things great music is made from..
Love US poets/rappers but UK styles are awesome. This is guy is my favorite for sure. Very unique with great evocative lyrics. Also liking other Brit poets like Roots Manuva, Tricky, Scoobius Pip, Akala, Lowkey, The Streets, Allflaws
its good to finally hear a philosophical english rapper, i feel content shutting me eye's to this and listening it 'sa calming tune, then i open then up and hope i get carried home
I may not be into rap and stuff any more but I like this purely because of the lyrics. They seem perfect for today's times. Plus, the female vocal part is something I say to myself every day: "I just wanna live life and survive it."
This song is so deep its almost impossible to comprehend he has to much wisdom for me to understand every line as i haven't experience everything yet but this song is true were just trying to survive life thanks Ghostpoet for this man really needed it with current issues pal
Still an absolute banger all these years later
I've been battering the Quest remix for so long I slept on the original
I listened to this as my life was spiraling downwards. It mirrored the feeling I had. Life is easier now and I still love this song. It reminds me to never forget where I came from.
After 10 years this tune is still just as good

I come back every so often when I’m in a rough spot, makes it a little easier. Thanks for this piece of art.
Discovered you from Orlando Florida
Ten years on still gives me goosebumps. Thank you GP

The song has been a constant for last 10 years.
