    I just started surf foiling (with a surfing and kitefoiling background) and it's humbling, yet exciting. Your journey is inspiring, keep up the videos! 🤙

    On point. I am the only foiler where I am. It’s a tough crowd to sell, but hopeful for someone to join. Great vids as always.

    Well said! I’m about to hit 5 years since my first prone session and I’m still foil frothed as ever. Fountain of youth!

    Really enjoying going through your videos from the start. What Unifoil setup (mast, wing, fuse, tail) would you recommend getting into prone? I am a midlength surfer, love winging in waves so have foil experience, and weigh 145lbs. Live in Wilmington NC. Thanks!

      Hey Andrew,
      So I think depending on your weight and overall skill level will let you know where to be. But as far as getting into prone either the 140 or 170 is fantastic. Very forgiving in pump and fast enough to connect waves. For me at 135-140 I really liked the 140 as my goto at the time I was riding unifoil. It’s faster than the 170. But the 170 does have a very forgiving low end that can’t be beat. I have since moved on to another foil brand called Omen and they are a completely different feel than Uni. But I will say that if you want to concentrate on prone and flying without the power of the wing the Progression 140 is amazing. Hope this helps and feel free to reach back out for any info. I have since progressed from this video date and have a 140 “review” video in the series.

    The amount of progress you've made in 6 months is very impressive. I have been very skeptical of foiling, but watching your journey has made me more intrigued. As a fellow East Coast surfer, we have so many days with that are either small, blown out, or both, where a foil really is the better craft.
    I'm curious-do you feel like someone can actually learn to prone foil on their own? The lessons from REAL certainly gave you what appears like a jump start, but do you feel like you would have eventually gotten there without this foundation?

      Thanks so much. As I said in almost all my entry’s I really put the time in to learn and try to progress the best I could. So… learning yourself. Main issue is getting used to foiling itself. Flying a foil is nothing like surfing or snowboarding or skateboarding. So if you start on a efoil or behind a boat or ski you will have more opportunities to stay consistent. I can’t dribble a basketball or do any sports for shit. But I usually adapt quick to board sports. I got up on the efoil first couple times and within 20 minutes was able to go as long as I wanted. Then towing behind the ski took a little time but came natural. Ocean prone foiling is hard. But with some time behind a ski or efoil it’s obviously doable. Very good chance that if someone just randomly borrowed a foil before hand in the ocean I would have hated it. Ocean has too many variables. Real gave me a huge head start and they have all of the facilities and toys and instructors to be successful. If your interested in learning I strongly suggest taking a lesson. I didn’t want to either but I am happy I did. Everything you know about surfing is ass backwards in foiling, but it’s insane and the most fun I have had in the ocean. When the waves are good I surf and I always will, but when you start to foil you foil most of the time. If you are serious about giving it a go I do suggest Real but locally I know of a teacher as well and can link you up. Feel free to hit me up on my instagram and I can get you set up.

    Where do you ride on jersey shore? I’m learning/riding in Avalon.

    The amount of progress you have made in 6 months is impressive. I was wondering if you have ever thought about the Foil Drive Assist Plus system? Partly to help with training for pumping which you can practice on a lake in flat water. Partly to aid in catching more waves in your ocean sessions. Also how long does a foil session last for you and how many waves do you typically catch in a session?

      I have thought about it because it would be amazing for non breaking days in the ocean where there is a little bump. It would be me getting one of those or learning how to wing foil.

      Also foil session is usually 1.5-2 hours. Not sure how many waves I catch but I catch less waves on foil because I am still learning which ones are good for foiling and what are good for surfing.

      @@theliftjournal You are an accomplished surfer going into foiling. I am a sound intermediate foiler / pumper (kite foiling / wake foiling / new to Wing Foiling) with no surfing background. I live in NC and started going into the ocean in January with small swell and waves with Foil Drive. On a single battery I can usually cruise around for about 30 minutes and catch 20-25 waves -- then change out battery and do it again. So it's been great for pump training on a lake and wave catching training in the ocean. My goal is to be able to catch waves without Foil Drive at some point. Pop up, ride, pump and link to the next wave. I am not sure if I would have had the time or patience without FD to do that. But I think it will happen now at some point in the future. I have enjoyed hearing about your journey.

    Just starting my prone foil journey on Long Island. You think an 85cm mast is too long?

    • @theliftjournal
      @theliftjournal  Рік тому

      Hey Brian. So I don’t think that’s too long obviously keeping in mind shallow areas I think you will be fine. A longer mast will give the wings a faster heel toe turn radius.
