Man there's some legendary helmets back there, I can see Robert Kubica's old BMW Sauber one, and I love all the leathers on the wall, looks like Taka Nakagami, Hiroshi Aoyama, and Mick Doohan(?) on the wall behind you.
Long time helmet designer/painter, Arai-wearer, and Arai dealer and thought this was a neat little video Alexi. Always amazes me how much of the Arai stuff is hand-made. True craftsmanship compared to some other brands. You can tell they take pride in their work. Thanks for the quick tour!
Helmet designer from Europe here, it's really interesting to see the way the Japanese work, with 2 years internal training and few but very skilled craftsmen. Very different from the western ways. I've read the even design the helmets by hand, not by CAD. Thanks Alexi!
I, too, have a wonky head! Cool to see how they fit the helmets! Also loved that we get more flip phone photos, you could rrall6 see how much "patina" the white helmet accumulated over the years! You could probably replace the pads in that one and still be fine for a bit
It puts my mind at ease seeing you get into a new helmet, that old one probably wouldn't do much in the event of a serious accident. The EPS layer (the stuff they shoved into the shell) gets super brittle after many years and deteriorates over time, which in turn makes it absorb less and less of the impact in a crash. Most helmets have expiration dates because of this reason, as companies can't guarantee the safety rating the helmet is rated at (SNELL, ECE, DOT etc) after that time frame passes because of this. Arai's are fantastic and I hope that new one treats you well!
I got freaked out thinking I heard someone speaking in the hallway outside of my room at 2am as I'm watching this but it's the audiojungle sound watermark in the music.
I understand that not everyone can afford a top tier lid but Arai is worth every single penny. I have been around motorsports my entire life. I even worked in the motorcycle industry for a while. I've seen some stuff and Arai helmets are one of the only brands of helmet I will put on my head.
great vid! love the tours of motorsports factories in Japan. Thank you for letting people know how to fit a helmet properly, so many ppl just dont know
I have an old Arai helmet that belonged to my late father that I've been keeping in hopes of restoring the crumbling inside lining some day. So awesome to see how much craftsmanship can go into proper helmet fitting. Never even thought about this stuff before.
Apparently the go-pro mounts are what offs or seriously DDoS'es people wearing helmets. When Schumacher fell the stone caught on the go pro mount and was able to redirect all the force on one spot, vs just skipping across.
slightly off topic but considering Australia's attitude towards Seb in 2013, he ended up being one of my favourite drivers ever by the end of his career
incredible video!!! i really like these behind the scenes, also would like to see more of you working on your cars or stuff like that. Love from italy!
Love this video and the info! ❤ 2025s should be coming out in a few months I think and definitely gives me a better impression of Arai. BTW my head is also weirdly shaped and wish I could have it custom fitted too
My friend's wife has a JP Factory fit Arai helmet, so I'm really glad that you uploaded this video, thanks Alexi! I get to show people how precise Arai is! I'm an AGV boy, but at least I put my helmet on correctly??? :P
Always cool to see people who excel in their field, could tell how mega that helmet fitting was by the reaction....and the box making was equally impressive😂
Nicely timed as I'm also due for a new helmet, the liner of my current one is falling apart. I've always wanted an Arai ever since getting into D1 stuff back in the magazine and VHS days. That was an awesome inside look at the factory! Very cool. I, too, put my helmet on wrong--I tend to start at the forehead and roll it over and down, will have to try the other way and see if it feels much different.
i'd love to see more of these how-its-made style videos from u especially with all the great manufacturers in japan. wheels, suspension, bodykits, etc.
"Spread it out" and "normally its tucked up in there..". I see what you did there, Alexi! LOL This was very cool. I'm a big fan of how-its-made type videos, so if you get the chance to do more, please do!
That's actually a rad little shop tour. I still have my Arai VX-Pro Kevin Windham Replica, that I probably got around 2004. Cool to see it's more of a specialised hands-on operation, always thought it was a giant factory
I just bought my first Arai helmet, the RX-7V Dani Pedrosa Samurai Spirit graphics. Previously, I have been using Shoei, HJC and AGV for my motorcycle. From now on, i think i will stick with Arai as someone who wears glasses they fit with ease also the quality is the top notch. 👌
Bought my Arai Concept X nearly 3 years ago. Have been a Shoei-Head before, but no modern Shoei either fit me (NXR) or did I like the design. Switched to Arai and it is awesome in all aspects. Pinlock works like a charm, design is superb and build quality is par none! Worth the extra bucks (paid 620 € inkl. smoked visor).
I sell motorcycle Arais and was lucky enough to tour the factory back in Oct 22. Aki san gave me 2 of the aprons they wear in the factory. One of my favorite things i got while there.
Growing up watching all these JP drift videos online I would always see them wearing Arai helmets. When I finally got to the point I could buy/needed a helmet of my own I was adamant to get an Arai. Bought a GP-5W and been loving it since.
Hey Nori, its good to finally meet you at the smashcon, just unfortunate that your merch sold out fast and I couldn't get any. nice commentary on the mario kart as well. Hoping to see your upload about it soon.

Very cool looking shoe!
Getting your helmets fitted is so worth it, it can completely transform the experience of wearing one.
100% and it's underrated
Or you buy them oversized and grow your hair out with an aggressive perm to fill it out.
Especially good with the current price of cake.
100%! Also, people don't know that different helmets across a manufacturers line will fit differently.
