This house is designed so to attain that down to earth effect through. Basically, this house has used resources very prudently, taking all environmental and climatological aspects with the help of an Architect. This house would have costed them, 2000rs./sq.feet. I am an Architect from Virudhungar. This house has so many features that saved them money like the filler slab in the roof that would have saved upto 30%, the flooring would have saved some 40%, the foundation would have saved them upto 15% cost, cost of plastering and painting are totally saved, well solar passive techniques have been used for natural lighting and ventilation to the maximum.

In this method less cement, sand, steel so that the cost is low. No plastering of walls but just pointing. British architecture can be seen in this house. The owner has taken lots of efforts to get various materials is highly appreciated.! Our govt and civil engineers should come forward to recommend and promote this method of eco friendly houses in India so as to save electricity, natural resources and water !🧱🏘️*

Sir plastering costs are saved throught the building which is 15 % of the total budget. Flooring cost are saved upto 50% because of teracotta tiles & red oxide flooring.filler slab in concrete saves 40% of concreting cost, foundation costs are saved upto 10%, as he says in the video 6 feet is not necessary, 3-4 feet is more than enough.painting cost are saved upto 3% of total cost.& maintenance in terms of painting regularly,electricity costs are saved.iam an architect in madurai worked with architect laurie baker.

Looks like The architect is a follower of Laurie Baker and Eugene pandala.... All the techniques that have been used are their trademark elements. Good to see such implications in Chennai. Clients are hard to convince about these techniques , good job on that...
I guess there is a big cement and construction lobby against low cost housing. So only well informed people who are in construction industry can build this type of house. Regarding athangudi tiles it is one of the best low cost with good geometrical designs that can be seen in agraharam houses.

The house looks amazing from the outside with all the greenery but it's pretty dark inside. They could have opted for plaster made from sand and lime, which is also "breathable".

The initial cost of construction would be higher as compared to standard construction. But it'll be cost effective in the long run. The use of electricity and AC will be less since the indoor temperature will be cooler because of the use of materials. Anyway I agree "low budget" is not the right definition.

Looks expensive decorative items.. Bought from Paris corner.. She said 5000 cost light shade bought for 500@Paris corner... No plastering, no pillar or pile foundation, tiles were hand made and compartevily cheaper than factory made makes huge difference... Good attempt...

The initial cost of construction would be higher as compared to standard construction. But it'll be cost effective in the long run. The use of electricity and AC will be less since the indoor temperature will be cooler because of the use of materials. Anyway I agree "low budget" is not the right definition.

Looks expensive decorative items.. Bought from Paris corner.. She said 5000 cost light shade bought for 500@Paris corner... No plastering, no pillar or pile foundation, tiles were hand made and compartevily cheaper than factory made makes huge difference... Good attempt...
