    This is the scariest thing to do on a snowboard by far, it’s not hitting rials, jumps, drops, it’s flying really freaking fast and hoping you don’t can’t an edge😂😂😂

      If the skier got in a proper tuck, he would have smoked the board. He was just cruising, which is not easy at that speed: one dip can compress you into jelly….but it was a smooth run.

    I've gone over 100km/h a couple of times, you just need to know the run. It's easy on open groomed runs where you can see it level out. Just tuck and lower your centre of gravity as much as possible. It can be unnerving to think of the repercussions if you end up losing it and cartwheeling like a rag doll. As long as there are no trees or cliffs, all is good.

      A friend of mine bought a smart watch and tried to measure the maximal speed on the slope and got 95km/h.
      He didn't believe it, though the watch was lying and went for a second run to double the measurement with the smartphone. On the second try, he lost the balance felt, broke a ski in half, went in uncontrollable cartwheel and finished the run unconscious.
      He almost broke his neck but fortunately didn't get any serious trauma, just a neck pain and lack of memory of what had happened.

    Nice speed guys, looked like 108kph or 68mph! If the skier tucked, he probably would've stayed closer to the boarder. A couple years (20'-21') back a group of us ol' fux (over 60) often hit 70-76 mph in one area of our local resort, and a tuck got you to 80 mph, that was scary as hell. You also have to know the road ahead is clear.

    • @Julio_Tortillia
      @Julio_Tortillia Рік тому +3

      The problem with fully tucking is that your legs no longer provide a suspension function. The smallest bump could easily make you lose balance.
      The skier was actually tucking slightly, but not so much that his legs lose a suspension function.

    If the skier was in the tuck position (you can see from his shadow he wasn't) he woud have easily caught and passed the boarder.
    Skiers can easily hit 80mph and faster. I do it all the time.

      For real dude I've never been passed by a boarder. No matter how skilled they are all I've ever had to do is tuck in and start flying

      Downhill snowboards are a thing now. They are basically a single ski. Those can go pretty darn fast.
      It’s a newer snow sport that hasn’t caught on in the us yet.

  • @paulcunningham5327
    @paulcunningham5327 Рік тому +2

    I doubt that speed is accurate, Camara skier isn't even full tuck, I think it's exaggerated by about 20-30 kph

    Aside from technique and other factors...how much you weigh is usually the determining factor in how fast you can go.

    OK I'm 48 and have never skied but this makes me so keen. Hammering too fast for my skill level would be a serious risk lol.

      Definitely worth learning before them knees get too weak 😄
      In all seriousness though you'll run into quite a few people 60+ absolutely shredding up the mountain, plenty of time to get up there and carve some paths down!
      Cheers 🍻

    Guys beginner snowboarder here. I have difficulties when dealing with speed I really don't know where I should keep my weight on the board. Is it more on the front or the rear? I always scrape a little bit of the wrong edge when I'm straight with quite a bit of speed
    Loving the board so far
