Don't forget the horse is getting used to a new spoken language too. It takes time to put the new words together with the physical commands he receives. He's a beautiful animal and a smooth mover. Best of luck with him.

@@matt_harnacke You can't whistle at "chicks" on a street or a beach?! LOL! 🤣😂🤣 Ha ha! 😉
It's so great that you really hear what your viewer is saying here! You're not just rushing through the comments to make it look like you are paying attention, but you really ARE paying attention! That's a rare thing on YT!
You and Jesse are both SO genuine and so caring for the horses, and those 2 things are where all of your appeal comes from. I know you must be just as caring about people too. You might expect 2 gorgeous, successful, and very popular young men to become conceited, but you both seem not to be, and that's wonderful!
I love your approach to life and to horses. You two are obviously different in many ways, but you are similar in the most important ways, regarding the health, happiness, and wellbeing of the horses. Please never change! You are among the people from whom I learn the most. Lots of love to you both from Canada!

I appreciate your openness and willingness to share the fact that you go to therapy. Brain health is important so an individual can cope with everyday stress, can work productively, and can be a contributing member of their community. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness, but a significant step toward the path of self-care.
Thanks for the update on Buri’s progress. He is such a beautiful horse.

    • @cattymajiv
      @cattymajiv Рік тому

Exactly! It's a sign of wisdom and strength. Absolutely everyone can benefit from a good therapist. It's a pity that good ones can be hard to find. But it's well worth being persistent, because finding a good one eventually is better than finding a pot of gold, or winning the lottery! At one point my therapist may have even saved my life. I was so lucky to have her!
I was even luckier that the costs were paid by my employer. Those costs are prohibitively expensive for most people, because government health programs and private insurance often don't cover it. But there are a lot of employers in Canada that do cover some or all of it, at least up to a certain point.
The stuff below is for everyone, no matter where they work, and is just a guideline on how to find out about what your employer provides, because it could be much more than what you think, or what your supervisor and coworkers think. I included some info about my experience just to illustrate that point. Anyone who doesn't care should feel free to skip the rest of my post.
People need to phone their employer's Human Resources Department and ask them about what is offered and how much is covered by the employer. I was so surprised that my workplace, or the plan they provide, covers so many different things! Way more than just dentists and eye glasses!
Don't assume that the website of the employer covers everything you can get. Nearly all websites are incomplete and badly designed. Talk to a REAL PERSON, no matter how tech savvy you may be! And read any website or printed material first. Take notes on what questions you need to ask, and make note of the answers that person gives you too. Also use a highlighter pen and a regular pen on any printed material. I do like to have a hard copy in addition to any website, because I can highlight it and write my notes right on it in the relevant spots.
I work for the Edmonton Public School Board, and my partner works at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, or NAIT. Even though they are different employers, both of them give us coverage, and we can combine the 2 coverages, meaning we pay nothing. Zero dollars for anything.
My Edmonton School Board coverage is managed by the Alberta School Employees Benefit Plan, or ASEBP. It includes Alberta Blue Cross benefits, but it may also include other things too, and it covers so much more than people would imagine! But it's SO VERY confusing that the website is useless at explaining it. A person needs to phone them and speak with a Benefits Specialist.
The use of the eye glasses or dental coverage does not reduce the amount of money I can put towards psychological services. And as far as I know, physical therapy does not reduce it either. As far as I know, they are all seperate pots of money. Do NOT forget that if your partner or spouse has a plan, even with a different employer, they can possibly be combined, DRASTICALLY REDUCING your costs. Again, research it first by reading all the info you can get, make notes for yourself, then be sure to phone them and talk to a REAL PERSON in the Human Resources Department. That is usually a Benefits Specialist who knows every detail of the plans available to you.
There is likely so much more money and services available than you had realized. And sometimes dollars (or whatever) can even be carried forward to the next year if you didn't use them all. If the person you talk to is unable to ansewr all of your questions and explain things in a way that you understand, then you need to speak to somebody else there. Don't settle for an incomplete explanation.
These things are your right. You earned them. In fact you are probably paying for them through deductions from your paychecks. So they are yours, and nobody has the right to try to act like a gatekeeper, and prevent you from accessing them. It's their job to help you. You don't need to apologize to anyone for taking advantage of what is rightfully yours.
If you think you might benefit from therapy, take it. Do it. If the first therapist isn't helpful, ask for a different one. Don't waste your number of covered visits on a therapist who isn't helpful. Insist on a different one. Do you prefer the same gender as yourself, or the opposite gender? Say so. This is supposed to help you, and it will, even if it takes a bit of work at first to find the right fit.
If you need help in any way, do reach out to your employers HR Dept and ask for it. They must provide it, and it must be confidential. You can tell your coworkers you went for financial planning. Nobody needs to know about it.
      Good luck to all!

Thank you for bringing attention to the importance of caring for one’s mental health! Knowing that even people who seem to live a charmed life, such as yourself, can benefit so much from therapy has a big impact on reducing stigma for others. Also, understanding and being able to work with our emotions is so important as equestrians, because our horses reflect everything back to us for good or bad.

I really wish I had a horse trainer that speaks in the same level of detail that you do. It’s incredibly frustrating when all you get is “just move his hind over yeah?” Or “he needs more oomph, yeah?” Like literally no explanation as to why I’m doing the things they are barking at me to do. It’s simply “do as I say and don’t ask questions”. I am truly grateful that you are willing to share your training experience with your horses. It has helped me immensely! Thank you! I am always in awe when I watch you ride your horses because not only do you make it look so flawless and easily done, but you are so naturally in tune with each of your horses that it really is quite something to watch. Thank you for sharing your journey!!

Buri (sp?) is gorgeous … you have definitely picked a winner! And how nice that you ran into his breeder at the show. So nice to the know the full history, rather than guessing at it. What a cute pic of him as a foal.
One thing … his quirks will lend itself to some of the future designs you may wish to see in your new barn. Firstly, regardless if you’re building a barn or buying a property with a ready-built barn, at least now you’ll be cognizant of the space for an isle way. You’re probably always going to be dealing with stallions and it’s good to know more space is not wasted space and the benefits of.
He looks beautiful under saddle Matt … floating almost in appearance. His neck is really starting to build muscle and he’s holding himself so much better … seems very supple. I don’t think you’ll have any problems selling him when it comes time … and I’m not surprised you have already gotten interest in him. I know if I were in the market for a horse like him, I’d be reaching out to you! Oh … PLEASE DON’T CUT HIS MANE Matt!!!
Antares looks good … I’m wondering if this was before or after his surgery … I hope he’s recovering well. But I must say … it’s really noticeable that he’s a champagne colour. I always thought of him as a gray and was corrected by a viewer … I can clearly see he’s no where near a gray. I imagine it’s, in part, due to the lighting and in comparison to Buri.
Lastly, I think it was very brave of you, not to mention important, to impart on your psychotherapy … it’s a wise decision especially in the kind of world we live in today! It doesn’t mean one is crazy but it’s a safe environment to learn new coping mechanisms that one might not have otherwise learned, in how to deal with stress! I think promoting therapy may mean all the difference to someone watching today!
Look forward to the next update! 🙏🙌❤️🇨🇦

Lovely horse and rider. With his increased muscling in his hind end, Buri is now much more balanced in his body. He looks great! Also, I really love how fluid and elastic his movement has become, you can really see that with the shoulder-in, and the half-pass. I especially like how Buri steps under himself, many PRE's tend to be short with their hind end..... What a wonderful job you're doing bringing Buri along, your patience and kind manner are really setting him up for success.

Miss him alot 😢, but watching you I imagine myself up there and I'm like yes, good job, good try lol 😆 I had back surgery in May of 23' I'm hoping eventually I'll be able to ride again at some point. Believing the impossible is key! I was born with cerebral palsy so that has made things more difficult, but I used to do all the chores, etc. Loved the smell of the barn! Beautiful ride on that gorgeous boy, he'll keep improving as the days go on! It's really important to ride properly your body will thank you and the horse will as well! Hugs from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤

The changes in Buri’s neck are very evident even from the short time you’ve had him. I love the service you’re providing, it’s a real issue for young riders looking for their potential first sport horse and perhaps ending up disappointed in what can be achieved as a partnership and thinking the horse is not the correct fit for them. You’re setting up a horse that stands a far greater chance of understanding what their rider wants and how this can be achieved . Obviously this sort of training isn’t cheap but, in putting in the work with a slightly green horse, the chances of Buri becoming a forever horse are greatly increased.

Beautiful video. I love watching you around and working with the horses. I’ve never owned or been around horses much but I’ve always loved watching them. Thank you for explaining things as you do them and how and why you work them a certain way and what you do to help them correct themselves. I just find what your doing so interesting and beautiful. Thank you for sharing Matt I really appreciate it. ❤❤

I had the same back engagement problem and I solved it with chambon work, you should try it. It helps to open the frame forward the vertical

I enjoy both your technical videos and the personable ones about you, your partner and your lifestyle in the horse world. This is totally fascinating how you will develop this horse. You both have such loving manner towards your horses. They are lucky!
The child in me has a "small horse farm on my telework desk." But now I am now motivated to take some horse back riding lessons!

I don’t know anything about horses and can see the difference in his conformation (I know what that is, at least) and temperament (not just a word describing horses). He seems calmer and looks more conditioned. You’ve worked your magic with him, and he can only get better. He is just a beauty!! 😊

Beautiful horse with massive potential. I had a beautiful dapple grey Highland I'm Scottish so perfect fit, anyway by the time she was 12 yrs old she was pure white so Buri has a little while to go before he loses all that beautiful dapple and becomes even more stunning. Best of luck with your boy.

❤ I understand that you go into buying horses in a business-like manner to then resale benefitting horse and even vetted new owner, but how oh how do you let them go, so tempting to keep each one. 💞
Thank you for this update and your voice over which I really enjoy hearing your commentary with very helpful tips peppered in! 🙌

Thanks for being so open and encouraging therapy! I have a quiet passion of psychology, so being able to process emotions and stresses is so vital - and especially for our young men! 🥰love the glasses by the way🤓legit - I have big ones like this too, but I generally wear contacts 😇

He's a lovely horse. It can be very problematic if they don't like other stallions though.
I knew one older stallion probably sold for this isdue. One day after being ridden, he suddenly carted his rider towards another stallion's box on the way back to his own - not a barn, but they were at different ends of a row. The older stallion started a fight over the box door with the younger one, biting off a chunk of the other stallions face. After that the young stallion's top door had to be shut whenever the older stallion was out of his box.
Just a management issue, but one to be aware of as people can forget with bad consequences. We do expect a lot from our stallions as regards living arrangements and it's good for Matt to mention it.
