It's nice to hear the two of you together again. ❤❤ I wish it was for a happier occasion than this, lol... The part about the dead mother in the foreground got to me. I'm sorry to say that during my time in a Red Cross shelter after Hurricane Ian, I discovered a man who'd passed away on his cot. He was a very warm caramel complexion, but there was no mistaking that ashen pallor and blueness, even though I'd never seen it before. I may never forget it. Delacroix did an amazing job of recreating it here. It was interesting hearing about Delacroix's use of color - I wonder if he added some of those touches because it's such a large canvas and he wanted to create a highlighting effect. Beautiful to look at either way (despite the subject matter).
Your sensitive analysis of the "Massacre at Chios" could not come at a more timely moment as we watch the massacre of Ukraine on the news. Delacroix's extraordinary painting embodies a painful truth about racial hatred and genocide. Thank you.
At this moment Erdogan claims that Chios belong to Turkey among other islands and that they won’t hesitate to repeat what they did to Greeks at Smyrna in 1922 again to Chios and other Greek islands.
Thank you for the close-ups. They're so instructive.
so glad you re-did a video for this painting, your analyses are incomparable!
Thank you very much!
