    About color grading
Post-production can be quite a task. But some parts of it are known to be more fun than others. Yes, I'm talking about colour grading.
Whether it is a short commercial or a feature film, what really differentiates your work from others is how you stylise your picture. Monochromatic palettes, deep shadows, or washed-out hues - it's up to you!

Over worked…underpaid … like any creative profession that eventually becomes consumer accessible. Agencies & Prod studios just end up exploiting the artist. BEST BET moving forwards … get to know a great DP & Dir team you want to work with & showcase your BEST work, get on that team, be different in your style, have the TOOLS at a Pro level & a good studio that you can work from ALONE. You’ll make it. Most don’t & it’s again - one of those jobs that starts out as a top line profession but in years to come it’s just a job. Unless you specialise & have groomed your work to a level where other DP’S & Dir say WOW ! That’s the person we want.

Perhaps you can explain something to me. Why is it that SDR content generally looks brighter and more vibrant than its HDR counterpart? Meaning when I directly compare the same exact content on a calibrated panel in both SDR and HDR, the SDR version will almost always seem to have a higher average luminosity level and more vibrant colors. This is not because brightness levels are cranked up either. HDR seems a bit less saturated but with the benefit of the occasional high nit specular highlight and perhaps better shadow detail. Just having a hard time finding a technical explanation for why SDR is actually more vibrant and generally brighter on average. Is it because it is a more compressed format? I have read that SDR has a higher average luminosity level, this seems to be the case.

SDR is 100nits , and foe your case you might be trying to watch and HDF content on an SDR Screen im assuminh
Simply HDR screen can goes from 500nits/700nits to 10.000 nits for dolby vision
So the SDR cant handle that so its shown less vibrant

@@ameramdouni3584 SDR content is generally brighter than HDR content despite the fact they are both mastered to 100 nits typically. I've educated myself on this subject since making that comment. HDR has more leeway on the bright end and dark end but on average it is less saturated in color and has a lower average luminosity level. It is true, I can link you to information if you're curious.

Is colour grading a subjective work?

While the artistic elements are subjective, there are also objective standards in colour grading, like skin tone accuracy, color balance, and exposure, that professionals aim to meet. I believe colour grading is a mix of both technical skill and artistic vision. It's like cooking; you have to know the basics, but you also have the freedom to experiment and make it your own. :)
