Sopranos don't belt up to C5. We sing through a mix and on into our high ranges. Belting cuts the voice in half which is why Gaga's upper register is so undeveloped. If she mixed more she would not lose that part of her voice. She is more of a soprano than she may know. She is a terrific singer, as has been most evident in her jazz work with Tony Bennett, and actually has some belt technique -- a rarity among pop singers -- but long term singing over the noise of a crowd wears the voice out.
She had laryngitis and a throat infection, but you are right, she also is in terrible pain. Fibromyalgia is a big deal. It's incredible how much she has fought through it. That's dedication. Love that Gaga.
