This was my 1st Duke game! I remember it like yesterday. I went to WSSU in Winston-Salem and loved every minute of repping the Blue Devils on Tobacco Road. As an SC native, it was exciting that the Gamecocks had upset Kentucky the night before. We got to play spoiler because the Deacs would have reached a #1 ranking for the first time in school history with a win at home. My Blue Devils had other plans...

Tim Duncan was arguably Wake’s greatest player by far he along with Randolph Childress, CP3, Muggsy Bogues, and Rusty LaRue, and Dave Odom was one of the great coaches of all time, and so was The Late Skip Prosser. I am wishing their new head coach Steve Forbes well. I believe Steve Forbes has a bright future ahead of him. I believe he will follow the footsteps of Skip Prosser. This is coach K’s last year also with Hubert Davis, Coach Forbes, and Kevin Keatts all as new head coaches is as well on Tobacco Road. Happy college basketball season, everyone! 🏀 Tobacco Road has a bright future ahead of it with new faces but with the old not forgotten. We are going to miss Coach K a true legend of the game a true ambassador who will never be replaced we don’t like Duke but we respect what he has done.

As a Duke fan much respect!!! I wish, Roy Williams would had coched one more year. How epic would the rivalry had been if we knew both coaches would retire at the same time.

Arguably?? Who else are we considering ahead of Duncan as Wake Forest's greatest player ever?

@@Gonzoweirdo1 Nah. Great respect for CP3 but NO WAY is he ahead of Duncan even on the College level.

Woods is one of the biggest what-iff's in basketball - I remember when he played for my hometown Zalgiris - was one of the best centers the team ever had

This also marks twice in Loren Woods career where Duke denied him at a #1 ranking...this game and National Title Game 2001.

Hard to believe but this was the only time that the Blue Devils ever beat Tim Duncan, the last time they ever faced him. Duncan was 8-1 against Duke including 4-0 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

+walterlv01 Wake would have been #1 with this win but Duke ruined it with this win.

Due denied Loren Woods a chance at #1 twice in his college career. This game and the 2001 National Championship Game.

If only our St. Louis players all went to mizzou instead smh. In 97 our local big 3 would’ve been carrawell, Larry Hughes, and Loren woods. Throw in jahadi white and we would’ve dominated the ncaa that year 😭

Revenge from 1994. I remember Wake beat Duke on Thursday Night, january 13, 1994 at Duke when Duke was #2 and the win would've given them the #1 ranking. Well if Wake would've won this game they would have become #1 (as they were #2 at this time).

    • @thacozzman89

Yup...Very ironic...Wake had beaten them 9 consecutive times prior to this game and you're right, Wake would've won to be #1.

*I meant had Wake won, they would've claimed the #1 spot.

Tim Duncan maybe the most overrated center in college basketball history. Well, him and Ralph Sampson. And, funny, they both played in the ACC. But, at least Sampson actually made a Final Four.
