- My recommendation for your first powered RC glider | NEW Kavan 304TS TWIN SHARK 2.7 metre Sailplane
AVAILABLE HERE: www.modelshopleeds.co.uk/cata...
This is a rapid assembly semi scale RC powered glider. You just need your transmitter, receiver (minimum 6 channels) and 14.8V 4S 2600-3300 mAh flight battery. Follow the instructions for assembly. Only point I will add is that the grub screw in the elevator fitting should not be removed. Take a new one from the small plastic packet which has the smallest allen key and screw that into the fitting to clamp the provided control rod from the servo into that fitting. Recommend using some thread lock and also tighten up all the other grub screws while you have the allen key in your hand. I tightened up each one an 1/8th of a turn.

The EPO foam fuselage, thoroughly carbon-reinforced, comes with the KAVAN C3548-750 brushless motor, 11x8” folding propeller and KAVAR R-50SB ESC featuring a powerful switching SBEC stabilizer necessary to feed all 6 servos aboard. The detachable canopy is secured with a magnetic lock. The cockpit compartment offers a lot of space for your receiver and flight pack. The elevator and rudder servos are installed in the fin.
The two-piece EPO wing is reinforced by two carbon spars; the root ends of the spars are inserted to aluminium joiner in the fuselage. The wing halves are secured by a nylon bolt. The ailerons and flaps (both reinforced by carbon tubes) are controlled by two pairs of servos installed in the wing driven with short wire push rods.
The EPO horizontal tailplane (both stabilizer and elevator reinforced by carbon tubes) is detachable; secured with two bolts to the fin for an easy transport/storage.
After assembly mark the CG position as stated in the manual and move your flight battery to achieve that balance point. I put my Insta360 GO2 action camera on the horizontal stabiliser so had to move my flight battery all the way to the front but ensured it did not touch the back of the outrunner brushless motor !
For the first flight always ask someone else to hand launch the glider for you. Best to have your fingers on both transmitter sticks should anything unexpected happen. It didn't on my first flight. No trim required as I had ensured all the control surfaces were at neutral before take off.
In the air this glider has the power to quickly get to altitude but is light enough to float around with very little drop in height as it glides over the landscape. Loops are effortless after a shallow dive to gain some speed. Rolls are unsurprisingly slow and will require elevator when you get to inverted to maintain a roughly axial roll.
Although I had setup 2 stage flaps I didn't need them for landing because of the strong 20 mph wind. The descent was predictable and I touched down very close to my feet for quick retrieval.
Altogether a very satisfying first flight and I wouldn't hesitate recommending this powered glider to anyone, regardless of skill level, wanting to fly an RC glider. As always I recommend the RadioMaster TX16S transmitter and in this case match it up with an FrSky receiver.
Look out for our 2nd flight with the Twin Shark when I'll share some line of sight video, onboard FPV video and the awesome Zzzzing sound as it does a fast fly by...
Twin Shark ARTF set contents: EPO fuselage with the brushless motor, 50A ESC, 11x8" folding propeller and 2 servos installed, EPO wing with 4 servos installed, EPO horizontal tailplane, and instruction manual.
Wing span [mm]: 2700
Length [mm]: 1285
Weight [g]: 1950 - 2050
Wing surface [dm2]: 45
WHAT I LIKED?
Low part count and everything installed so very rapid assembly
Scale scheme already applied
Thoughtful how ESC already secured, motor phase wires glued down
Very rigid for a foamy
Simple transmitter setup
Flies light
Long duration
Plastic contoured wing tips
Transport friendly
Fuselage wheel or skid option
Makes a nice Zzzzing sound on a fast fly by
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE?
Tried really hard but couldn't actually think of anything !

Love this glider. Perfect balance of scale vs daily flyers design. Well done. Good review to on shipping.
Thanks Charles! 😎
That looks like a very nice glider. Not really a glider man myself but if I were to get one then this fits in with my scale interests. Seems all my models these days have to be a scale representation of a full size. Looks like it flies very nicely. And what a beautiful flying location 👍
Great review of what looks like a very nice glider that can be ready to fly in minutes. Great onboard coverage too.
Thanks. Line of sight video next time. The sound it makes as it whistles by is fantastic
Thank you for great review of our Twin Shark! 💙
Our pleasure Kavan! New video here which I will make public soon guys. ua-cam.com/video/vmvdSeIPq90/v-deo.html
Looks great. Loved the tail mounted video.
Thanks 👍
It looks really nice. Just today, I got my Kavan Pulse 2200 and can confirm the packaging and build quality 😉
Nice 👍
Looks like a must add to the stable.... would definitely add crow to fly off slope.
Nice flight video 😊
Thanks 👍
what a beauty there will definitely be happy thanks for the video
Thanks for watching Ratta!
Que bonito el glider !!! Para empezar !!
Thanks for video !!.
Es un planeador increíble para principiantes y expertos. Gracias !
I’m just learning to fly with the aero scout. I have a radian, but I’m really wanting this one as well.
Nice flick, I figured that camera would make her tail heavy. 😀
Nah, I had the CG bang on with the battery up to the front.
This looks an ideal canopy to add a pan/tilt FPV system under.
I think you would find it's far too small. Can't be made deeper as the lipo is at the front.
Kavan is the new name of the Daniel Pelikan brand from the Czech Republic
480 is an insane price. 🤯
bonjours une quextion la camera sur le planeur ou vous l avait acneter merci de le reonse et bon planeur et bonne journée
Any chance to get one of these in the US?
Hi Dom.
Hope you are doing well.
I know that you have flight both on ASW-17 FMS and this Kavan Twin Shark.
What would be your preference❤?
Thks.
To read you.
JPhilippe.
Great review! Nice looking glider. Shame about the price!
About the same as other 3 metre gliders but a little higher as its latest design and just come out. Can only hope price decreases after its initial launch period.
Ya it's too much coin for sure😂
Just about right for a first glider? £370 yeh right.
Is there much difference from this model to the asw28? Where I live it's hard to find models like that.
Yeah. Very different. This is excellent for gliding and thermalling, but the ASW28 is far more aerobatic
What kind of "air time" would you expect from this setup with 4s batt?
It's a glider. On a warm day with thermals you could stay up for a very long time
CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE INFORMATION ON THE CAMERA ON THE PLANE...

Hello Very nice & beautiful glider by Kavan ! Tell me, if you compare to the FMS ASW-17, what should be your final choice ? Rgds
They are very different gliders! The Kavan is great for thermalling and pure gliding. The FMS is more for aerobatics. Choose your weapon according to what you like doing 😉
@@EssentialRC Thks a lot for your answer. Currently, I glide with a MPX EasyGlider4 and a FMS ASW-17. Both are different ; but they are also complementary
Hello. Could you share or add file for Tx16 radio setup for this glider.
I don't have it, sorry. Nothing complicated about ! Takes 30 seconds.
So what was the famous monument? I didnt see it?
Stonehenge. Think I needed to get a lot higher for it to be visible
I was gonna guess that, looks like the south.
In UK do you need a license to fly a glider ??
If it weighs over 250g you need to be registered with the CAA and have the provided Operator ID marked on your RC aeroplane. I always recommend joining a model flying club and getting BMFA membership which includes 3rd party insurance.
@@EssentialRC Thank,, poor insanity UK government banes every thing but I can buy a full sized glider and fly it WITH NO LICANSE
Do you need a pilot license to fly a glider? According to the British Gliding Association, who are in charge of regulating everything gliding in the UK, there is currently no requirement to hold a glider pilot license if you're flying in the UK.
as I said bloody insanity
@@ashwayn I'm not familiar with full size glider requirements...but having just googled it I'm equally surprised that is correct. I suspect nobody in their right mind would fly a glider solo without significant training.
No chance of anything getting damaged in transit or post. You must live next door to the model shop!!!
I would like to so that I didn't have to dispose of all that foam packing.
Wow..a bit over priced!
£370 2.7 metre glider as your first? Sounds like a paid promotion.
Nope. Wasn't paid.
@@EssentialRC "Sent to me by my friends at Model Shop Leeds"? 0:10
I also did notice that the tail appeared to be doing a lot of twisting from the camera view.
Yes. They sent it to me for review. It's a foamie...so yeah some flex but then even composite models will do that.
@@EssentialRC So in effect £370 in kind.
Would also suggest that the T tail is the major contributor to the flex.
foam fuselage , NO WAY! bye.
Bye
Nothing against you or your channel, I'd come back for those, but I would never consider a foam fuselage over a plastic one, bumma because it's a great looking plane.
Composite fibreglass? OK... but a lot more money. If you can afford it it is the better option
