There was a constant smile on my face while watching this analysis ❤️ the amount of work Jarrod puts in each video of his is just remarkable. To have the data is one thing, but to find relevant patterns in it to tell a story through visual presentation is a pristine art, and Jarrod is a master of it. To think of he did it all with his right arm in a sling while using his left one, is kinda ironical in context of his video where he describes how Ashwin devours left handers for breakfast lunch snacks and dinner. Loved watching this

Ashwin has been the biggest match winner for us in last 6-7 years. People brush it aside because he's just so dominant in home conditions but why isn't anyone else in the world as dominant as him in their home conditions? 5 test 100's and 11 test 50's to add to this ridiculous bowling record.

But its not used at all because when someone does use it to get the non-striker out, everyone hates on them.

I think the reason why left handers have had a consistently better average compared to right handers is because of the number of the right handers and add to that the right handed tailenders, always been more compared to the lefties, so the average for the right handed batsman will automatically come down.

One wonders how a bowler of this greatness could be sidelined. When was breaking all forms and getting retention money similar to Kohli, Dhoni and others he was suddenly sidelined from short format cricket with no reason what so ever other than India had also many bowlers. These bowlers even if they were not on par with Ashwin were good enough to enable India to perform reasonably most of the times. But in critical World ICC events they failed. Suddenly even in Tests Ashwin got the short end of the stick when he was asked to sit on the benches watching an injured Pandya who could not even field in the playing eleven for two tests. Both BCCI and Kohli were instrumental in sidelining such a phenomenal cricketer who performance is very consistent over such a long period. Now with Kohli out, Dravid in as a coach and hopefully BCCI getting some sense one would hope that Ashwin would be utilized properly to enhance the chances for India.

Kohli should have sacked as captain after last world cup. They destroyed Pujara and Rahane by dropping them in SA. From then after they never really did well but in Australia the stupid virat left them and all three did great. Evidence is there to suggest virat and ravi spoiled their carriers from being next Dravid. And Ashwin could have been already 500 wickets.

    • @abhinavsingh101
      @abhinavsingh101 2 роки тому

@@santhoshs-vr3un He is drawing conclusions about trends by eye-balling the data, which is what I find problematic. For example, on 05:20, the single data point on the right captures Harbhajan's bowling average over 10 years. We can't be sure if there is any difference between his average vs RHB and LHB. The two averages are too close to tell. We cannot know if the difference is significant, or completely random, without looking at the SD. Second, I don't even know if it is even weighted by the number of games he played in each of those years. For example, how many games did he play in 2014 and is the average from 2014 just as important as the average in 2007?
This issue of randomness also comes in his conclusion that LHBs have performed better than RHBs historically (except between 2010-2020) (06:33). The single data point for 1950 is an average of the batting average of LHBs over a decade. There has to be underlying variation in the data, and we cannot know if the two distributions are different until we know the variance. If the LHB average is 35 and RHBs average is 33, it matters whether the SD is 0.5 runs, or 5 runs. To reach Jarrod conclusion, it better be less than 1 run. It's entirely possible that a higher average of LHBs is just like 4 successive heads on coin tosses, completely random.

Great video but I have one bit of feedback if this applies as a confounding factor when it comes to analysing the odds with pre DRS data. One huge change amongst finger spinners in general pre and post 2005 was how their actions were tested on the doosra, bans and fines were getting larger and more off spinners, Harbhajan especially being one of these had to resort to far more of their off breaks or stock deliveries over the doosra, and I feel like that trend of off spinners staying away from a higher volume of doosras has stuck with the modern offies like Ashwin and Lyon.

No, the big crackdown was 2014. The highest rate of doodles and illegal actions was really 10-14. Hence Ajmal.

@@JarrodKimberYT Murali is not just the greatest off spinner ever. He is THE GREATEST SPINNER EVER. far, far, far better than Shane warne. Warne looked clueless against players who are good at playing spin and Murali was always a challenge. I don't know how nd why people from aus and eng claim warne as the greatest spinner. It just shows how stupid the west cricket nations look when they talk about spin😂🤦‍♂️

@@rishabhsharma8189 purely based on skill, yes Murali was the best spinner. But as a complete cricketer, Warne was one of the best ever. Now I didn't face Shane Warne, but I think most batsmen who faced both would say they were more intimidated by Warne. Not to mention he had no dearth of skill. The ball of the century was no fluke, he almost repeated it several times, most notably to Strauss in 2005. But of course Murali bowled plenty of those too, so there's no definitive answer.
Take Steyn vs Anderson in the modern day. Anderson is probably more skilled in his wrists. But most batsmen were more afraid of Steyn. And obviously more people say Steyn is the greatest fast bowler of this century. Not 'most skilled', but 'greatest'. Warne was the greatest spinner.

it isn't Ashwin. It is OFFIE FROM AROUND the wicket that DEMOLISHES LEFTIES - verified from 3 times worse lefties avg when offie bowls from around.
Kohli, Ravi combo 1st discovered it in 2016 to ruin Sanga's retirement. Your stats only prove that b4 this discovery offies struggled v lefties including Ashwin v Hussy.

Offies have always been better from around the wicket. That’s quite obvious as SLA also mostly bowl better from over to right handers. That was true before and after drs.

@@JarrodKimberYT Then do a statistical investigation of ratio of (bowls bowled to lefties from around)/(bowls bowled to lefties from over) by Ashwin under Kohli
and compare that to that of Murali, Saqlain, Harbhajan and even that of Ashwin's under Dhoni.
I bet 1000$ that ratio is atleast 5 times more. And that explains Murali Bhaji and Saqi's poor stats v lefties .
