Setting up a BMW /2 Magneto Ignition system.

- This video shows how Ande at Barrington Motor Works sets up the magneto ignition system for a /3 or /2 motor.
The ignition system operates when two magnets generate a current by means of rotating on the end of the cam shaft. The magneto system is timed to energize the coil and produce a spark at a particular time.
Setting up your magneto ignition components correctly will ensure the motor fires at the correctly timed moment. Each component has a function and if set properly the ignition will produce a properly timed, strong spark.

That, is a brilliant video. So clear and so concise. Thanks
I'm just starting the process of replacing my slingers so this video will be very helpful when I start reassembling. Thank you.
Also , very good video.
Excellent clear video, thanks Andy!
Great stuff, Andy! Excellent video quality...and a great supplement to your book - the must have for all /2 and /3 owners! Subscribed with pleasure!
Thanks Ande! Looking forward to the Timing video.
Glad you liked it!
Again, Great information. You make it looks so easy. I perseverate too much on this stuff.
Hey Scott! hopefully this helps with your build.
@@BarringtonMotorWorks It certainly does.
Clear and concise, excellent video!
thank you! We're glad you enjoyed it!
Great video!! Such a help for a newbie to the /2 world!
Feel free to reach out on our Facebook or Instagram if we can help!
very nice video.
thank you!
Sub’d! Excellent presentation!
Thank you
Will the engine go in the frame with mag, gen and cover on ?
How to you resolve for differential timing?
I have a friend with a 63' R60/2 and the advance unit "seems" fine and the weights expand out with revs and return BUT,,, the timing light shows ZERO advance,,,, thoughts ???
Are there any videos on how to remove the magneto rotor ?
Do those newer plastic covered coils work better than the original style?
They sure do! They are fall more resistant to breakdown than the original canvas and resin models. The Emerald Island coils really are the best coil around these days.
@@BarringtonMotorWorksGreat video! The blue coil has an additional ground wire, where are you attaching it? It looks like either on the coil mount or somewhere on the backside?
Thanks

Hi, when you say hash mark, do you mean the line scribed on the inside of the hole? Also, have you made the other videos yet only I cannot see anything. Thanks from the UK
With spring advancing here in the American South West, What's the chance were gonna see a timing video?... Sorry if this is approaching harassment.
I'll see what we can do!
@@BarringtonMotorWorks THANKS!
Eric what's the gap of the point on the R 60 thanks
I usually start at .40mm...but I will reduce it to 0.35mm if needed.
Where do I get a blue ignition coil like that??
If you are in the USA, I would recommend Ted Porter at The Beemer Shop in CA. If outside USA, I would recommend Salis BMW from the Netherlands.
Where do you get your parts I'm asking this because I own a 69 Bmw R60
Andy have you made your other Dynamic timing and static timing videos?
Not yet, sir. I am waiting for another motor build so that it is easier to see than when the bike is in the frame. Hopefully soon!
Did you make a video on the advance timing plate and adjusting points?
Sorry I thought was Eric andy
