THE CHATEAU FIGHTS BACK! - 'Chateau de Bruges' - Ep. 15 - Renovation

  • Welcome back to another Chateau de Bruges video!
As with any renovation, jobs can often become overwhelming and a little out of your comfort zone. This week, that is exactly the case. The chateau fights hard to prevent Jake and Danielle from achieving what they set out to do and resulted in a little job taking a LONG time!
Progress on the chairs continues and Danielle now has a lot more materials to help push forward with the upholstery progress. However, a tough week with the renovation and a busy start to the weekend leaves Danielle with very little time to crack on.
Graham still remains frustrated in the UK but addresses some of the viewers concerns from last weeks gite tour.
A Friday night meeting with friends from Lapeyrouse meant some superb company and even better food! Jean, Berthold, Agnes, Maxime, Kevin, Remco and Norbert. Thankyou for welcoming us to Lapeyrouse so warmly. We hope to spend many other days and nights in your company!
We really hope you enjoy following us on our journey at Chateau de Bruges and continue to share any thoughts you have with us in your normal supportive ways.
    Merci,
    Chateau de Bruges

Well done for persevering. Agree with the previous comment about having some form of impervious covering under the basin otherwise it will look shabby quickly and you have created a lovely luxe shower room.

I think it’s amazing that you’re learning upholstery. I’ve always wanted to have a go but as I’ve inherited good quality furniture I can’t justify buying all the kit for one chair. Given that you have a whole house to furnish the cost is justified, and so is the knowledge. Excellent job and something to be proud of.

I realize I've watched this video way after the fact. In future rooms, you might consider doing the mirror or robe area light separate from the main light. As guests would probably find it handy to be able to leave one on at night to use as a nightlight. I know when I've traveled, you can wake up in the middle of the night somewhat disoriented. So trying to find your way to the bathroom without stubbing a toe or running into furniture can be a challenge lol. And no, lol, I don't drink hahaha 😆.

I was thinking something similar, but opposite. Bright lights after being in darkness (asleep) give me a migraine. If I just flipped one switch on in the middle of the night, I would not expect to be bombarded by so many lights all at once.

I’m not surprised you were so frustrated, but I’m glad you hung in there. So many difficult projects. Very impressive the work you both have done so far. However. I agree with another comment-the vanity looks beautiful, but in the long run, I don’t think the wood surface will age well. Hope I’m wrong because you did a great job and it looks very nice. Jake, well done for persevering and it doesn’t matter if you think your video today is bitty…. It’s real life and it’s a realistic fact that some jobs will take longer when you come across a technical blip.
Danielle, you also are doing a great job… remember all experts were beginners! The best way to learn is by our mistakes and I for one love watching you attempt these projects. You have also given me confidence to take on a challenge again.
Lastly let’s hope some good news happens for Graham. (My fingers are crossed).

It would probably cost twice as much as a new dresser, if not more to replace it if you spend money on a marble top shaped to fit the dresser. Not cost effective for a new business. A sealant varnish should do for a while.

Good on you Jake and Danielle for continuing while you wait for Graham… The French bureaucracy is Ohhhh. sooo. Slowwwww. And Redundant. And Annoying…. I think that half the country are fonctionaires (in the Gov’t bureaucracy) and the other half is too busy to work because of all the forms they have to fill out to satisfy the first half. 😅 On the plus side, the bureaucracy is very straight (not corruptible). 😊 Well I hope that you can all be together again soon.
