    🏇 A Foundation in Showjumping
Francome's passion for riding ignited at the tender age of six, with early successes in showjumping, including being part of the team that clinched the European Junior Show Jumping Championship for Great Britain. These formative experiences paved the way for his future in jump racing.
    🌟 A Stellar Racing Career

His debut race win aboard Multigrey, and the subsequent victories, particularly with horses like Osbaldeston and the legendary Burrough Hill Lad, underscored his talent and determination. Francome's partnership with Winter and other notable trainers like Jenny Pitman and Michael Dickinson brought about triumphs in prestigious races such as the Cheltenham Gold Cup, Stayers Hurdle, and King George VI Chase.

Pendil would have won two Gold cups if Francs had been around a little earlier.

Pendil was one of the best chasers since records began. A brilliant novice hurdler he improved again as a chaser, winning 17 of his first 18 chases. A feat never repeated. He was a Cheltenham festival winner and a dual King George chase winner at Kempton, where he was never beaten. Francome once said nobody would ever have beaten around Kempton emphasising “nobody”. Some claim that.
There have been very few chasers since the Desert Orchid days who ran in top class handicaps. Denman won the Hennessy gold cup carrying 11st12lb but other than the Grand National they tend to stick to Gr1 chases.
Pendil won the Massey Ferguson Gold at Chelt (Triple print, RP chase now December Gold cup). His weight carrying performance of 12st 7lb the greatest performance in the history 60 year history of the race.
Perhaps remembered for two Chelt Gold cup defeats that should not detract from just how great he was. He was cantering when he was bought down by a faller in the first and in his second Gold cup run he was going easily taking it up at the last but inexplicably shied away from the noise of the crowd and was caught close home by The Dikler. Many historians believe he is the best chaser never to have won the Chelt Gold cup. I would agree with that.
