      Good morning Tricia, this one was VERY special, glad you enjoyed it. And just imagine, Boris watched FT grow up from a tiny tike to spar with his huge antlers later!

    Breathtaking beauty, especially the scene beginning at 9:11. Superb videography of one of nature's most magnificent creatures and their equally magnificent environment. Thanks.

    I love the clip in the pre-rut sparring, when Boris owned flat top. Awesome clip!

      Thanks Ray, that was a fun day in 22. Lots of stuff going on that day. We missed seeing any sparring this year between big boys. Seems they just blew past that phase...not enough bulls...

      @@MooseManNaturePhotos I’m already looking forward to next fall and it will be interesting to see who shows up. Anchorage has received over 100 inches of snow. It has to be hard for the animals to move through all of it and I’m certain they’re burning a lot of calories doing so. I fear is going to be a very hard winter on our friends.

    This must be shown on all TVscreens in the world! A whole encyclopedia. Simply rare footage. Definitely my favorite part is Post Rut, when the hormones have subsided, but the antlers have not yet been shed and the bulls are gaining strength after all.

      My turn! 🙋🖐(Rick fielded some comments while I was hiking)🥾...You have NO idea what this comment means to us Lidia. So many months of hard work gathering this content with pro gear🎥 and mostly watched on cell phones📱... It can stand up to bigger screens for sure 📺and that way nuances and subtleties are better appreciated.
      We love that you more than get it; you know this stuff already which makes it all the more fun for us reading your comments. Thank you!!
      (And yes, Grumpy 🥰) Love that boy.

    OMG, I'm going back for round two! You brought out a big smile at 9:00, and it just stayed there through the end. I have more to say, but I won't force it into this comment. More in about 12 minutes...

      I've been wondering how Boris' tall narrow rack would pair with 22's or Flattop's wide racks. Would half of Boris' rack poke them in the face? Today, I found out. 👍

      It would be a crime to try to squeeze this topic into a 3-4 minute video, so I'm glad you didn't go there.

      You're bordering on a March of the Penguins-type movie.
      Ever think about that?
      Libby, it would need your narration, though. Forget about Morgan Freeman.

    Its all about watching the other guys eyes. I think thats what starts the fight! I wander if moose can feel the blood flow stop or something that says its time to rake the velvet off?
    I thinktge start of snow/winter and the peaceful quit times are so heart touching!

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  6 місяців тому

      I thing that as the nerves shut off and die, they itch, triggering the raking. And I agree, Neil, the peaceful snow scenes and times are just a balm for the soul.

    This is one of my favorite moose videos you have made! What I like is that you concisely compile some great footage to illustrate the full course of the moose rut cycle. The first sequence made for a solid intro for the video. Those Alaska moose seem so much bigger than New England moose, and the landscape so much more open and grand! Random technical question: do you manual focus or autofocus for you moose video footage typically? Just wondering because sometimes I find autofocus jumps onto moose or elk butts and of course with multiple moose in shot I can see the risk of jumping that way too.

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  6 місяців тому +1

      HI John, really appreciate your comment and the logic behind it. Love how you picked up on the quick intro. On average Alaska moose are 30% larger than ours here, sometimes more. Although we're getting deeper into it, we're relatively new to video. For instance the opening fight scene was 2019 still using DSLR's and AF-S lenses. These days, Nikon Z9 mirrorless, Z lenses and complete manual focus and exposure. So basically using "peaking" focus tools. thanks for asking.

    The rut lasted one month?

    • @MooseManNaturePhotos
      @MooseManNaturePhotos  6 місяців тому +3

      Good morning. The entire rut lasts about 6 weeks, opinions vary but from start to finish is give or take 6 weeks.
