Stephen, realizing you made this a couple of years ago now, but I cant thank you enough for creating this! I recently blew out my meniscus and can no longer paint plein air on the ground like I used to so this set up will be ideal for me. I really dont like the tray in front and down low either and I like to work flat with acrylics. finding this video was like a needle in the haystack and "gold"! so appreciate you for sharing this with the world!
This is such a gift you’ve given us!! THANK YOU! I hope the viewers appreciate how much time, effort and frustration you have saved them from with these 3 videos & blog. I have spent DAYS & DAYS over the years trying to find the supplies to assemble just this type of versatile, adaptable, compact & affordable plein-air stand/support for ‘water-coloring’. (There’s at least 1 other U-tuber who is marketing a less adaptable & less durable setup similar to yours for $200+ !) Given your level of ingenuity, I’ld like to know how you anchor the tripod against wind outdoors? What tie-downs or clips to wind-proof objects on the trays do you use? Thank you again for these extremely valuable plein-air setup suggestions!
Such a cleverly thought out set up! Congratulations 🎉! You Tube only showed me this today, after.years.of researching oortable easels for plein air 🖌️. It all looks great -I took a couple if ideas to incorporate to my own planning. I am off to watch your other videos in this series. Tha k you ever so much for documenting and sharing your design and production.
Finally! A setup with the tray on the side. I am starting painting with watercolors and was looking to make an easy and quick setup for home and plein air. I was thinking to use my photo/videography tripod and an attached arm to it on the side. So, very similar. Stephen, thank you very much!
I'm glad it was helpful! This is by far my favorite setup. I love the side arm from Tether Tools and it works like a dream. My plein air bag is a little bit heavier because of it, but my back thanks me every time I paint with it. :)
This is excellent and thank you for sharing. I have been trying to figure out what to do for more ergonomic working and this will ensure I do not waste my money on the wrong set up. I will be looking out for the next 2 videos you mentioned.

Do you have a list w names of your equipment? It’s very helpful to see your setup but didn’t hear the company names for the tripod, shelf and connectors. Thanks!
Hi Claire. In the description for the video, I provide a link to the blog post that was for this video. It provides a very full list of all the tools, with links when I can. Hope it helps!

Try Correx sign board it’s ultra light weight you can glue sheets together then finish the dyes with duct tape the board is very durable
Interesting and helpful, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for commenting Janice. Glad it was useful!
What is the name of the tripod and the side bar? I have shoulder issues and something so lightweight would be wonderful. Thanks.
