  • In this video I will try and explain the little knowledge I have about abrasive belts, abrasive measuring systems and why some of the terms and things used can be confusing and different. From my military and police days they loved the acronim (KISS) "Keep it simple stupid" So don't stress about it. It's not that important that you know it all or understand it but here are a few things that I hope will help those starting out.

very needed, well presented. Been using all these various systems for a while so getting used to it, but I too write on the back of the belts, sprays, etc.... as a reminder. Thanks again for sharing your expertise.

Could you please tell me about your Shop Fox down draft table. I can't tell if it's on or not in the videos when you are grinding. Do you use it every time you are grinding with your belt sanders? I get metal dust everywhere when I sharpen. I assume the the table is geared more towards wood extraction so does it work well with your application? Are you using a shop vac to power it or a central dust collector system? Would you buy it again or do you think that a more localized vacuum system that targets a more localized area work better? Thanks in advance for the response. You're doing great videos with great content!

When I do videos it's not on because it just adds to much noise to the videos mine is connected to a 1.5 HP Jet dust collector it does pull the metal dust down to the table and keeps a lot of it from going all over the room. I will brush it with a paint brush to get it inside and I do blow it with my compressor at times to help the metal dust move along. It helps but it in no way gets everything but everything in my shop makes dust including my lasers

How do you know when it's time to replace a belt?

For me by the end of the month I know because what may have taken 2-3 passes when new starts taking 7-9 passes they also don't all wear the same with the process I use my 120 Cubitron and 800 (A30) Trizact are pretty much done after 30 days they do the brunt of my work my (A15) or 1200 grit Trizact last about 2 months as I just do 1-2 passes on that belt. When I buy from Clif now I buy a years supply and no matter what I change them out every 30 days then I take the old belts and split the down to small ones for doing serrations and things I need small belts to do.
