Exactly, as a Real fan I can give probs to Xavi for doing so well, but I also can't state enough how basically every team does this against us. People put this win solely on "Xavi having a masterclass" but not really focusing on Madrid just being bad tactically and on player output. Madrid’s goal and offside do show the one weakness this Barca team has though. We need that Bayern solid UCL type performance. 3-4 quality signings for squad depth would help.

While not a tactical point, a big key to thee games vs Madrid is that Araujo, Kounde and Balde are consistently getting the better of Vini, Benz and Valverde in individual duels. This wasn't the case previously, with all 3 Madrid guys dominating in previous games.

Great analysis. How can you expect Real Madrid to keep up with intensity, if their players are literally exhausted and Ancelotti refuses to make more changes earlier. He did 2 changes minute 62 and 3 changes minute 76. But Benzema was out of the game from start to finish and Modric and Cross looked out of breath in more than one occasion, Cross not having any repercussion in the whole game whatsoever. on the ball intelligence is the main difference, knowing when to rotate vs when to go for the killer pass. Rafinha is missing that ovwr pedri, Rafinha typically prefer offensive options (shot, forward pass and dribbles) and they aren't the best option always. admittedly his decison making has gotten a lot better over the season, but pedri plays that role like a seasoned veteran.

We have been very unlucky in CL this year, deserved to win in Munich, a penalty not given in Milan, with a draw there, Barça would went through the group stage. Not to mention, that Kounde and Araujo were injured, both games against Inter.
Barca is still not ready for Europe. Xavi's record in ucl and Europa is very poor. We still needs reinforcement in the team to compete, until that they should focus on la Liga for coming seasons.
We don't have the elite wingers Bayern has at their disposal. Fo the other positions i think we can match them, but all of Gnabry, Mane, Sane, Musiela, Coman ar emuch better hen Ansu Ferran fo example. Only Demeble and raphinia are at decent level.
Great video and analysis again, as always. Not sure I agree with your closing statements about Real though and your narrative here that Barca are good and Real are bad. Yes, Real play conservative attacking football and never seem to be high in intensity, but last year their entire CL run was built on that. Every round in the KO stage was characterised by a high intensity team dominating them, but for them to stay in the game, never let their heads drop, and strike when the opposition was tired and their conservative style saw them with greater energy levels at the end. They weren't necessarily the better team over any of the matches (except maybe the first leg against chelsea, because of, as you described, Vinicius getting the better of Christensen but it all changed when Reece James went to RB), but Ancelotti's set up that you described here was the key to it.

I always thought Real used to play direct and quick no nonsense passing football. Thought that was inside their DNA.. But it seems like they adore their rivals and their impossible to copy playstyle so much, they think they can do it as well? I feel that stats in the beginning about Real taking more time in their build up is misleading. Because La ligua with low team offcourse it will be that way : madrid will have to take its time because the opponent close the game, but in games where the opponent plays with the ball and oppen the game, if they have space they will attack directly they wont take their time while Barça no matter the situation they often take their time for the build up.

But I think generally, the game was an open one, and both teams committed mistakes or have shown weaknesses, and so strengths for a total of 90 minutes. You only cropped out few situations among all and use these as an argument to make a point that, it is why Barca won. Essentially, i agree, but my point is you could also do a similar video by cropping the Real Madrid fine moments to make a point that they could had won the match against Barca. For instance, that offside goal, I you see total of 7 RM players were attacking the Barca box 😀
As a Real Madrid fan, i was so desperate we were just relying on Vinicius creativity. For many years, Zidane and Carlo have relied on individuals, with many goats at their prime (benzema, luka, courtois, cristiano, bale, casemiro, varane) and that was barely fine since Barcelona was a sinking ship (relying just on messi for many years) and we could afford wining titles. Now Xavi is here, they are getting back on some serious level, with so much IQ, and we need new managers with fresh ideas. I wish that could be Klopp, but who knows. De jong is the standout performer in this match and he is been consistent throughout the season. But he didn't get much appreciation from barca fans, ita disgrace. The fans always promote a average player like Gavi(merit=cutness)
what i don't get is how Barcelona can handle RM so well this season but when it comes to Europe Barca look 2nd grade, struggling against Bayern, Inter and recently Man United.
I think it's just Xavi not putting in as much effort in analysing teams outside of Spain. Which is pretty reasonable because when you are rebuilding, you have to do well domestically first. Barca aren't worse quality wise compared to Bayern or Inter. It's just that they get outplayed game after game because they are clueless on how to exploit their opposition's weakness. Now that the rebuild is almost complete and Barca looks settled, Xavi can start focusing on Europe next season.
I believe its due to the injuries that the backline had. Araujo, Kounde and Christensen were injured in some of these UCL games, while Xavi did not yet fully trust Balde. The replacements for them were Pique and Eric Garcia who were just not good enough. As of now, I think Barca only has 11 good players with a handful of effective substitutes like Kessie. But Barca are severely lacking in squad depth right now. Just a few injuries can affect the performance of the team, considering the replacements they have.
The Bayern and inter defeats can still be excused if one wants to The team was pretty new and there were injuries but against United xavi just didn't try enough and I am not so happy with that Maybe it's workin'g out because we are doing better in the league but still
bayern is quite easy to explain the first match (and i wouldn't count the other one as the team already knew that mathematically they were out of the cl no matter what so they had not motivation while bayern wanted the win to secure first place) surprisingly barcelona had control over 90% of the match and generated the better chances by a mile but here is where bayern being an already established team for the most part came through , they know how to suffer and have patience waiting for their moment and that happened when barcelona conceded from a corner kick they smell blood they knew barcelona was weak at that moment but why? well because unlike bayern barcelona lack experience and confidence and while the doubts started to settle int bayern quickly took control of the match and capitalized with a goal those 15 minutes since the first goal from the corner were enough to close the match while barcelona with 70 minutes of dangerous possessions were unable to that match perfectly showed us some of the current team´s flaws the lack of punch like a lot of opportunities that were created with hard work wasted some times due to a lack of precision on the last pass and most due to poor shooting accuracy even lewandowsky missed 2-3 good chances.Another thing we should consider(for the entire cl run) is how many new players barcelona signed and are now starters like at that point half of the defense was basically brand new same with the attacking trio many of them under a completely different system now with xavi and how little they had played with each other not know what your m8 tends to do and or wants is a big disadvantage. for intern their biggest problem were the injuries in their defense making them way more fragile something that they tried to compensate by being less daring with the ball but that lead to basically not scoring due to again lack of finishing prowess combined with fewer chances created due to that passive behaviour and not being as high on the pitch because of their weak defense so they couldn't trap intern into their own box properly or press high and when they did well it became a fuck fest with a lot of goals and quite entertaining but they got nowhere with that. Now for man u it was quite even like basically a 50/50 but the deciding factors were ten hag out coaching xavi by moving rashford away from araujo trying to free up his most dangerous man which worked wonders and pedri´s injury as barcelona looked like they were gonna trap man u on their own half and then the usual / tire them out or go higher and trap them into their box but pedri got injured and for quite a lot of matches since barcelona looked lost (since pedri this season was the creator playing as a number 10 on offense) specially on the 4-5 matches after it happened and at that point it became a coin toss

Balde needs to get the cross in way sooner. I like everything he's doing but then when attacking players make the run for the cross Balde unnecessarily stalls the play which allows the defenders to mark up. Same with Rafinha. Barca overall lack directness and decisiveness when attacking upfront. Just make the damn pass sooner than after when Barca's players are marked up. simple.
Sure they could be more threatining with a difference way of play, but that would also leave them more open against barca. The reason is simple. There is no amount of steroids in this world to make modric and kross compete in stamina against dejong and gavi. It's just not gonna happen. The age difference is too big.

We should be winning with more goals than 1 or 2 and become so far dominant in league like we used in 2010's to 15's and we should find permenent replacements for busi, Roberto, and older players.

It's crazy how we saw two different identities in the last two Clásicos from Barcelona. First leg of Copa Del Rey they played like Atlético Madrid(who remembers the second leg vs Liverpool). While not a tactical point, a big key to thee games vs Madrid is that Araujo, Kounde and Balde are consistently getting the better of Vini, Benz and Valverde in individual duels. This wasn't the case previously, with all 3 Madrid guys dominating in previous games.

This was an incredible video, I think Madrid needs to upgrade on Ancelotti now. We will always be the Kings of Europe but what Xavi is doing is admirable, and we need to also compete in our domestic leagues “consistently”.

He did 2 changes minute 62 and 3 changes minute 76. But Benzema was out of the game from start to finish and Modric and Cross looked out of breath in more than one occasion, Cross not having any repercussion in the whole game whatsoever.

If Raphinia like playing inside why can't he be part of 4 man midfield and play as right interior...This means Dembele can play at RW...So both are accommodated and we get more creativity and goal threat from midfield
The issue is ball retention,while Pedri is amazing at keeping the ball Raphinha not so much and him playing there leads to turnovers although it's an option still but not so likely.

on the ball intelligence is the main difference, knowing when to rotate vs when to go for the killer pass. Rafinha is missing that ovwr pedri, Rafinha typically prefer offensive options (shot, forward pass and dribbles) and they aren't the best option always. admittedly his decison making has gotten a lot better over the season, but pedri plays that role like a seasoned veteran.

We had more intensity then them in Munich in a game we should've won but that's football for u,the issue vs Bayern this season is that the team wasn't yet ready to play how Xavi wants against elite opponents
We have been very unlucky in CL this year, deserved to win in Munich, a penalty not given in Milan, with a draw there, Barça would went through the group stage. Not to mention, that Kounde and Araujo were injured, both games against Inter.
Barca is still not ready for Europe. Xavi's record in ucl and Europa is very poor. We still needs reinforcement in the team to compete, until that they should focus on la Liga for coming seasons.

Great video and analysis again, as always. Not sure I agree with your closing statements about Real though and your narrative here that Barca are good and Real are bad.
Yes, Real play conservative attacking football and never seem to be high in intensity, but last year their entire CL run was built on that. Every round in the KO stage was characterised by a high intensity team dominating them, but for them to stay in the game, never let their heads drop, and strike when the opposition was tired and their conservative style saw them with greater energy levels at the end.
They weren't necessarily the better team over any of the matches (except maybe the first leg against chelsea, because of, as you described, Vinicius getting the better of Christensen but it all changed when Reece James went to RB), but Ancelotti's set up that you described here was the key to it.

What I noticed was the real players were incredible selfish. There were so many passes that could have been made that could have ended in a goal. But no they would continue into the box until they were surrounded. Quality wise I think Real ha better players but Barc just plays better as a team

I feel that stats in the beginning about Real taking more time in their build up is misleading. Because La ligua with low team offcourse it will be that way : madrid will have to take its time because the opponent close the game, but in games where the opponent plays with the ball and oppen the game, if they have space they will attack directly they wont take their time while Barça no matter the situation they often take their time for the build up.

You only cropped out few situations among all and use these as an argument to make a point that, it is why Barca won. Essentially, i agree, but my point is you could also do a similar video by cropping the Real Madrid fine moments to make a point that they could had won the match against Barca. For instance, that offside goal, I you see total of 7 RM players were attacking the Barca box 😀
As a Real Madrid fan, i was so desperate we were just relying on Vinicius creativity. For many years, Zidane and Carlo have relied on individuals, with many goats at their prime (benzema, luka, courtois, cristiano, bale, casemiro, varane) and that was barely fine since Barcelona was a sinking ship (relying just on messi for many years) and we could afford wining titles. Now Xavi is here, they are getting back on some serious level, with so much IQ, and we need new managers with fresh ideas. I wish that could be Klopp, but who knows. We need some revolution, like Mourinho's since 2010

what i don't get is how Barcelona can handle RM so well this season but when it comes to Europe Barca look 2nd grade, struggling against Bayern, Inter and recently Man United.
I think it's just Xavi not putting in as much effort in analysing teams outside of Spain. Which is pretty reasonable because when you are rebuilding, you have to do well domestically first. Barca aren't worse quality wise compared to Bayern or Inter. It's just that they get outplayed game after game because they are clueless on how to exploit their opposition's weakness. Now that the rebuild is almost complete and Barca looks settled, Xavi can start focusing on Europe next season.
It's because all european club fears real madrid and real madrid fears barca.
I believe its due to the injuries that the backline had. Araujo, Kounde and Christensen were injured in some of these UCL games, while Xavi did not yet fully trust Balde. The replacements for them were Pique and Eric Garcia who were just not good enough. As of now, I think Barca only has 11 good players with a handful of effective substitutes like Kessie. But Barca are severely lacking in squad depth right now. Just a few injuries can affect the performance of the team, considering the replacements they have.

bayern is quite easy to explain the first match (and i wouldn't count the other one as the team already knew that mathematically they were out of the cl no matter what so they had not motivation while bayern wanted the win to secure first place) surprisingly barcelona had control over 90% of the match and generated the better chances by a mile but here is where bayern being an already established team for the most part came through , they know how to suffer and have patience waiting for their moment and that happened when barcelona conceded from a corner kick they smell blood they knew barcelona was weak at that moment but why? well because unlike bayern barcelona lack experience and confidence and while the doubts started to settle int bayern quickly took control of the match and capitalized with a goal those 15 minutes since the first goal from the corner were enough to close the match while barcelona with 70 minutes of dangerous possessions were unable to that match perfectly showed us some of the current team´s flaws the lack of punch like a lot of opportunities that were created with hard work wasted some times due to a lack of precision on the last pass and most due to poor shooting accuracy even lewandowsky missed 2-3 good chances.Another thing we should consider(for the entire cl run) is how many new players barcelona signed and are now starters like at that point half of the defense was basically brand new same with the attacking trio many of them under a completely different system now with xavi and how little they had played with each other not know what your m8 tends to do and or wants is a big disadvantage.
for intern their biggest problem were the injuries in their defense making them way more fragile something that they tried to compensate by being less daring with the ball but that lead to basically not scoring due to again lack of finishing prowess combined with fewer chances created due to that passive behaviour and not being as high on the pitch because of their weak defense so they couldn't trap intern into their own box properly or press high and when they did well it became a fuck fest with a lot of goals and quite entertaining but they got nowhere with that.
Now for man u it was quite even like basically a 50/50 but the deciding factors were ten hag out coaching xavi by moving rashford away from araujo trying to free up his most dangerous man which worked wonders and pedri´s injury as barcelona looked like they were gonna trap man u on their own half and then the usual / tire them out or go higher and trap them into their box but pedri got injured and for quite a lot of matches since barcelona looked lost (since pedri this season was the creator playing as a number 10 on offense) specially on the 4-5 matches after it happened and at that point it became a coin toss

Balde needs to get the cross in way sooner. I like everything he's doing but then when attacking players make the run for the cross Balde unnecessarily stalls the play which allows the defenders to mark up. Same with Rafinha.
Barca overall lack directness and decisiveness when attacking upfront.
Just make the damn pass sooner than after when Barca's players are marked up.
