that is EXACTLY! how I graft my pecan seedlings!!! dead easy! you plant pecan nuts of the variety that is earliest to bud out and then take BUDSTICKS from the variety that sleeps latest !!!
Nice! How old was the seedling you worked on? Is it possible to graft on 1 year old seedlings? What are the chances of success if you follow your method with 1 year old rootstock? Thanks!
Hi, Your D.lotus is just swelling and your grafted varieties have 5 inch long shoots???? I am also zone 7/b middle Europe, and my d. lotus is at this stage end of march, at 12-17 Cel temp max. My Sharon variety grafted starts to leaf out only 3 weeks later.... Thanks
Thanks Ross. Great informative video. I also have some success with grafting persimmons. Here in Tennessee I have so many Wild Ones with tons of seeds that I plant to grow my own seedlings. Thanks for all the good information. I like your Channel.
On timing that’s crazy that earlier works better for you, I’ve found the later I graft persimmons the better my success rate! I live in SC and wait until June usually with good results....
Thank you for the really informative video Ross! My house property is really tiny so im thinking of getting one persimmon tree (mohler) and grafting another variety on to it once it branches out a bit the next year so that i can get good pollination and yield. What do you think about this idea? Would i be able to graft kost american persimmons on to mohler or only specific cultivars? Would really appreciate hearing your thoughts on this.
Hello I really liked your video with a clear explanation and also I would like to know if you sell those little plants to which I made graffiti, if you can sell me persimmon plants with more than one variety in one
The cambium layer is the thin green layer between the outer bark and the inner woody center of the stick. This green layer is where the life force flows up and down the tree between photosynthesized sugars created in the leave and the water and nutrients sent up by the roots. This layer must be matched up at least on one side for the scion to survive.
In this video he says it is parafilm. Parafilm is fairly common and easy to get. Not extremely expensive. Another grafting tape which is even easier to use is Buddy Tape . It is much softer and stretchier. The roll is already perforated into sections which are a few inches long so you do not have to cut it, such as when you use parafilm you have to cut off the section you want to use. This is the link to Buddy Tape buddytape.com/ for more info. A Friend of mine bought a whole box of it so the price per roll is less. If you have some friends or members of a garden club that want to split the cost , then do that instead of just buying one roll. It is very expensive!
I have a nikitas gift persimmon tree and i'm asking myself if there are any benefits on grafting this variety onto a rootstock or just propagate it by rooting cuttings (just like propagting singular variety fig trees for example)? Can anyone help me out on this?
I am not aware of any one ever having success rooting persimmon cuttings. If you have success please let us all know and tell all of your details what technique you used.
What persimmon varieties are you growing? I grafted Jiro, Great Wall & Saijo this year and started a ton of seedlings to use as rootstock in the next couple seasons.
Is there a way to take a part of my mother in laws tree to grow a new one? She was ran over and killed by her negligent husband. I can’t stand to see him so will no longer be picking from my mother in laws very productive tree. I have a new one but I really want a piece of hers. My daughter and I got persimmon tattoos a year before he killed her. She died in September. Any help would be appreciated. Would like to grow a tree for my daughter and son too.
Is this now a good time to do it? Or it just matters on if the tree is starting to bud? And can you just pick any random tree for the root part? And what if the persimmon tree that I’m getting the graft piece from already started to leaf, will it still work? Thank you very much in advance! Vlad
I’m a new subscriber, I haven’t searched your channel yet, but yeah that knife is cool. I have a carbon Laguiole knife I was lucky enough to find that has a nice patina going on.
Hey Ross, I have a five year old American persimmon tree that I am finding out it’s a male. I’m trying to find out where the best place to buy persimmon scionwood is. Also any other tips you might have to cleft graft this time of year ? Thanks
It's beautiful an healthy persmmon tree , I interested about planting fruit an gardening Recently I planting persmmon tree I hope next year definitely give me fruit mm
Joyce Toralba. Here in Glen Mills PA I successfully grafted when leaves start growing. But my problem to keep scions alive till that time. Sometime end of branches is damaged by frost over winter, keep that in mind. But still use only last year grows. All my grafts I did late in August do not growing.
So during your video you talk about the importance of timings several times over and over again but you never mentioned anything about timing you never mentioned the month you never mentioned the season you never mention the times of the year to start looking out for the things that we use for timing

Thanks Ross. Great informative video. I also have some success with grafting persimmons. Here in Tennessee I have so many Wild Ones with tons of seeds that I plant to grow my own seedlings. Thanks for all the good information. I like your Channel.

Hi, may I ask is your scion is fresh cut or kept in refrigerator over winter? Thanks
On timing that’s crazy that earlier works better for you, I’ve found the later I graft persimmons the better my success rate! I live in SC and wait until June usually with good results....
When do you take cuttings?
When dormant, usually January or so here

Can we just leaving the seedlings 🌱 to grow and produce fruits?
What types of trees can I use for my root stock for persimmon grafts? Thanks a lot
Virginiana seedlings are what you want
Any type of persimmon will do, as long as it is persimmon.
@@dapaozhang8565Does it matter if male or female roots talk?
What is the keemium?
cambium

Hi Ross, what's the film that you use to wrap the graft? Thanks!

I a question, i grafted my tree by Marsh 21but up to now nothing grow
Do you thing the graft failed, i live in NJ?
Could be. I have no way of knowing.
What’s the best rootstock varieties for persimmon tree ? Please let me know. I live in tropical zone.
I used early golden american perssimon rootsock for my fuyu persimmon. Worked well in my region not quite tropical
Lotus rootstock is common for the persimmons in southern California.

This can only be done in the spring?
where can I buy some Scions?
I guess the persimmon scion wood doesn't need to store in the refrigerator for some time like Apple and Pear scion. Is that right?
Not sure. I bet it's helpful.
What persimmon varieties are you growing?
I grafted Jiro, Great Wall & Saijo this year and started a ton of seedlings to use as rootstock in the next couple seasons.
Quite a few. See my spreadsheet.
Beautiful tutorial vid, lots of useful tips. Thanks for sharing 🌿🍃☘🌴🌲🌱👍
Hey Ross, where did you get the persimmons scion?
Friends. Englands, burnt ridge, there's a few nurseries.

If it's an older tree, I'd probably go with the bark graft. Persimmon scion is so hard to find this time of year. You could try nuttrees.net
It's beautiful an healthy persmmon tree , I interested about planting fruit an gardening Recently I planting persmmon tree I hope next year definitely give me fruit mm
American persimmon seedlings?
That's them.
Does anybody graft persimmon in late summer?
Probably a bad idea in my climate.

Using very dull knife🔪 😂
The more important thing is what you're doing not the knife.
