    something you might find interesting is that fleeing from the police is an offense but isnt punishable in the netherlands, however, every offense you forgo while doing so is. think of running a red light, speeding, endangering the public, etc. even though they drop many of those charges if you didnt cause damage or public danger, its probably beter to flee on foot if you do. the reason for this is because fleeing is instinctual.

    I love the vlogs of Jan-Willem. Like you said, he picks great music and they're giving a great insight into the work of the Dutch police. People often complain that police officers should go catch thieves when they get a ticket for a traffic violation, or they ask whether they have nothing better to do. These vlogs show that they do catch the bad guys, but they also get you when you break the rules. Great respect for the police as well as the other emergency services, who often risk their lives in order to keep yours safe.

    • @dutchman7623

      Yes. And 80% of police work is boring stuff like noise complaints and cars blocking exits. But better resolve it before neighbors are going to use violence against each other. It is a good sign that one shift isn't filled with an armed robbery, a terror attack and an airplane crash.

    It's possible that he - riding a one-man patrol - is assigned reports with a low chance of escalation, hence many noise-complaints. A single officer is usually enough to have people reduce the noise.

    Yeah noise is a huge issue here and the person doing it doesn't tend to turn it down at all. In fact my neighbours ended up in a battle where the people tried to create as much trouble for the complaining neighbours as possible. Turning up their music pointed at their wall as soon as the husband came home. This was in houses where I could her the buzzing of a phone through the wall. When they finally got evicted they had a last party with these soundhorns everytime someone arrived or when they felt like it well into the night and I heard they caused massive damage inside the rented house too, i heard them stomping against walls and pipes in the house. But I think they had the police radio on because they'd get quiet from time to time.
    That's what you can expect asking someone to turn down their music out here. Because nice people already know when it's time to turn it down.

    • @fermitupoupon1754
      @fermitupoupon1754 2 роки тому +1

      I used to have a neighbour like that who lived 2 floors above me. He intimidated everyone in the other 4 apartments and they were afraid to go against him. Eventually I decided to just make recordings of the noise on camera with a borrowed decibel meter showing the noise levels and threatened to take the housing association to court over it.
      The biggest issue was, with that neighbour living on the 2nd floor, he had a clear line of sight over both of the streets that lead to the square we lived on. So if he saw a cop car, he'd suddenly turn down his music and then act like I was the crazy one for calling the cops.
      In the end I showed my videos to the cops, who finally gave him an official warning. But it wasn't until I had a lawyer send a letter that threatened legal action against the housing association that they started an eviction procedure.
      When he got the letter that he had 28 days to pack up and move out, he got drunk and decided that it was a good idea to smash a case full of empty beer bottles on my car. Thankfully people witnessed him doing it, called the cops and he was arrested.

    • @Iflie
      @Iflie 2 роки тому

      @@fermitupoupon1754 Most of the stories I hear they are rarely evicted but yeah there are plenty of crazy people that think their music and noise is normal and no one has a right to complain.
      When i was moving the housing organisation advised me not to respond to certain houses because the street was full of a certain type of people from a certain background and I was looking for a quiet place and these people tended to live outside and loudly.
      I often saw the houses from that street back up for rent. I think not many people could get along there. Unless you were just like them.

    • @fermitupoupon1754
      @fermitupoupon1754 2 роки тому +1

      @@Iflie I'm pretty sure the housing association only acted because I had enough evidence to take them to court over it.
      And it's not like I'm that neighbour who complains about every single noise, I really don't care if my neighbours have a party or if they have loud music for a couple of hours every once in a while.
      But this was basically constant, every single day of the week and it's only go on pause if he had a phone call or if he saw the cops or the housing association drive into the street.
      His argument was always that he had to have the music loud, because he suffered hearing damage, so he wouldn't be able to enjoy his music at a reasonable volume as he'd be unable to hear it.
      He had some sort of excuse as to why he wouldn't get hearing aids or just headphones. Nope, he wanted his music loud and anyone who complained was trying to restrict his ability to live a normal life.
      I went to a lawyer once I collected some 900 minutes of evidence on tape. Mind you I lived on the ground floor, he lived 2 storeys above me and the decibel meter never dropped below 75dB(A).
      It took quite some effort, but you can still get people evicted, even a housing association can be forced to do so by a judge. My case was strong enough where the housing association didn't want to risk it going to court I guess.

      And even with his income being garnished by the court, it took over 3 years for him to repay me. But I got my money in the end. And more importantly a nice livable apartment in a quiet neighbourhood for the few years that I lived there afterwards.

    The Netherlands is on of the most densely populated countries in the world, definitely in Europe. On top of that, most people don't know their neighbors, so it isn't that easy to ask them to be quiet, as you don't know what they're like. Plenty of agressive idiots that you don't want to deal with.
    Edit:
    As Para Gon mentioned, some people are just assholes and will call the cops over nothing, we call them vinegar pissers. The major difference to the US is that we live so close together, almost everywhere in the country.
    Noise is always an issue and compared to many Asian countries for example, it's very quiet here, so any noise stands out.
