Designer Allison Willson of Sarah Richardson Design discusses how she renovated her home for her young family. See how she preserves the 1906 Edwardian semi’s charm with vintage pieces and modern updates for the perfect mix between old and new.
The home is largely traditional, but playful, contemporary accents liven up the rooms. A statement rug in the living room adds color to the neutral palette, while animal prints offer an unexpected dose of fun in the den. The kitchen features huge brass lights and marble subway tile, and the bathrooms follow suit with a similarly industrial aeshtetic. The most predominent color in the home is soothing grey, and when paired with the plush, comfortable furniture, it creates a space both kids and adults can enjoy.
My interior designer friend laughed at how I mixed modern and industrial and vintage styles in my place. That’s why I am here.
Not all designer are equal .just because she doesn't like it doesn't mean you can't. If its 1800s industrial feel it'll look great!

For over a year, I have Googled, You Tubed and Pinterest'ed to no end trying to find decor inspiration for my home. Nothing has grabbed hold of me...tapped me on the shoulder, made me give a double-take but that's about it. Getting ready for bed and thought, let's browse one more time.
I searched modern traditional home decor..NEVER even thought of putting those 2 words together but I'm SO GLAD I did. Your video pops up. I clicked on it but never expected to see such a amazing home. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of this home spoke to my soul! This is what I've been searching for. Absolute masterpiece! @@ah5721 I grew up going to Disneyland,and my Mom studied interior design. And I noticed, Disneyland has a lot of colors, they provide warmth and they feel inviting. I want my house to be a refuge, for family and friends, where people are comfortable for long conversations!
I don't like the idea of living in a white box! And anyone can make a white room. It takes skill ,to pull off a sophisticated space that's warm and cozy with color's that blend easily!

I noticed ALL of her gold accents from kitchen cabinet hardware to lamps and decorative pieces throughout the home. The golden accent trend of today's home fashion collections was alive and well in this home feature. It sure is a welcomed change from the predominant chromes and nickel finishes inundating the fixtures we otherwise must choose from. Love the golds SO much more.
What I love is that fire place as the heart of the room with that gorgeous rug! Its just so soothing to the eyes... I can imagine myself grabbing a giant pillow in front of that fire place reading a book sipping tea at night:) for a change there's no tv over the fire place which I think allows beauty to take over. She really does have great taste for designing 👌♥️😘

I have watched this video many times, and I still find this home stunning. I would definitely use this designer if I was choosing a designer for my own home.
I love the freedoms in decor,style and design ......if it moves you do it, yes!
She has a truly great sense of style, it looks grand -but still cosy, classic but still reflects her own personal style (with little quirks & surprises but overall it oozes comfort). LOVE!

One of the few homes in the channel I LOVE! Traditional style is definitely my jam and there are way to update it for a modern lifestyle while still retaining all the classic features that make it timeless. I especially like that she highlighted the vintage details of the house, although I do wish she had more natural wood tones. That's probably the only difference I would make, is less painted furniture and more natural stained wood pieces to add more character. The kitchen looks fairly classic too, I love that there's no impractical vessel sinks!

My sister-in-law has a beautifully decorated and expensive looking home. She pulls it all together from TJMaxx and other similar stores.
I think TJMAXX/Marshalls Homegoods is the secret to most amazing decor.

This house has lots of natural light
I always wanted an older house. And last year I bought a 1929 Tudor style home. Its been more work and money then I ever imagined. Expect to have to replace electrical wires, fix broken fireplaces, replace windows, replace or fix leaky roofs, put in new insulation, replace plumbing (especially on 3rd floors) and fix radiators.
This home has the feeling of a big hug ❤️

Hmm...it's like I really love a lot of the pieces and decor items separately, but together...I can see how it can bring about a cozy feel though. And that I love! The kitchen is absolutely amazing!

I love the look of a traditional home. The fireplaces are so dreamy. I would love more color personally. Design wise very nice though it is beautifully laid out. I like this mix of traditional and modern. Very nice 😌💜🌈
kitchen is the best part!.. living room is cozy but too clogged. i feel dizzy with the bathroom, but the bedroom is stunning!

Loved the overall effect, and her fondness for light gray is exactly the element of continuity running throughout the housel My real pet peeve is the bright brass fixtures in the kitchen--I think the warm soft gray tones of brushed nickel--or for some sparkle, polished nickel or chrome would have looked just as vintage and actually worked with the palette better. And yes, she's gonna regret having children & white furniture.
Amazing home. I keep watching this video for ideas. I love how you didn't do the only one or two accent color throughout the whole home rule...so boring to have the same accent color throughout the house. Much more prefer using lots of neutrals and adding a little color in each room and sticking to that.

I love her choice of color. It's warm, sophisticated and tasteful. She chooses a blondes colors, grey and light pink. I read that grey maximizes the light for a home in the northern hemisphere, where some times of the year can get dark. Although, where I live these homes would be many millions of dollars to buy and probably another million more to renovate and furnish. Spectacular home and taste, just a little hard to relate to, for the layperson...

I'm no fan of modern/contemporary decor but this mix was very good. Only downer were the wall tiles/wallpaper in the first toilet - that mess of lines.

Love white, mirrors...especially venetians, and chandeliers. I'm an artist so I do my own unique tweaks...which vary. I have my bedroom in silver mirrored furniture I refurbished with a white leather " tully" bed. I added a canopy and framed a flower wall in a white ornate frame I found which I painted. ....as my " backdrop.

This house is really beautiful, and I want to study all of the rooms and their vignettes. One thing I'm confused about, though. She said there was no pattern in the living room other than the rug, but the two chairs have a subtle pattern, and the single chair has an animal print.

Misleading title, not a how-to but a home tour. Lovely home. Tips from video that I could gather: consider monotone furniture with a loud rug, consider mixing in vintage pieces of good quality that have character, be willing to make mistakes and change things out, choose livable items that can handle damage, mixing many different styles can work - traditional, modern, contemporary can mix but not always, grey is soothing
