Great video Mike, thanks for putting it all together, it's so interesting to see this as it was just before my time although I remember Cleveland Centre a year or two after it opened and how new it all looked. I had always assumed the whole of centre had been built on a fully cleared site at the same time but the pics show part of it near BHS already built while the older buildings up towards Tower House end on the left still standing. Guess they started on the centre while existing businesses vacated.
@RD-dl9ms Thanks. It's always difficult to choose music for sideshows, especially when you consider the copyrights that youtube inflict. It's a case of going through the audio library, listening to pieces until you find something that fits. I went for 'cinematic'' on this occasion.
Really enjoyed that. Keep them coming. You and I may be too young to remember but my Mam says there was a Wimpy in Middlesbrough way back before the one that Next occupies. It was at the side of Binns opp BHS through the arch, and you went downstairs. Fruit Stalls used to occupy that area. No one I talk to remembers it. I think my Mam might have got mixed up about location!
I know the space you're referring to, and i remember the fruit stall being there for many years. I don't recall a Wimpy being there though. I do recall the one next to C&A and even remember when it swapped to BK. The Wimpy murals were still on the walls upstairs for a while.
I"m 54 i can remember the Royal Exchange building that got knocked down to make way for the A66, it was around the same time that Marton Manor was being built. Middlesbrough was a different place back in the day
At 9.39 is that Tram lines coming through the tarmac. I remember where the Courts are you could see junction points just about coming thru the road. mid 70s
@martinvegas1327 I've never worked in retail but have worked with a lot of community groups in the town. I used to be based at the cycle centre in the bus station (sadly long gone).
