Wait... What exactly is D4 going to be like if after all these years the development team has gone through two directors and still isn't comfortable to commit to anything? What if a simple reveal like the elder scrolls one wouldn't work because D4 is quite different compared to the predecessors? Well, that's just speculation but just showing Diablo Immortal certainly wasn't the solution.
No, if it's the truth then it's safe to say that the presentation and the stage was supposed to be for Diablo 4 but seeing how they're taken aback by the amount of backlash they got on stage indicates that it wasn't the case. If they planned D4 to be the main focus they should have taken some precaution when announcing immortal simply because if that's the truth then immortal is actually a secondary or a supplement to the D4 announcement. What happened there was they simply dumbstrucked by their own dumb decision. It just indicate that they have no preparation regarding announcing D4 whatsoever by not thinking a way to mitigate the damage down by the cancellation. In short they're either blind or dumb, or both. Also Schreier, as reliable as he is, said some serious shit that can take his credibility to the shithole so i won't believe what he says the same way i used to believe him.
I saw a comment from a gaming journalist saying "No wonder gamers have a bad reputation." You know which reputation is worse than "Gamers?" Gaming Journalists.
I wonder if he meant that people where angry and throwing a fit, instead of voicing disappointment to just a mobile game. Of course, I didn’t read the article so I don’t know. Could be that this journalist is just an asshole as well ;)
They were hoping that you were all idiots, and that they could lock Diablo fans into buying their shitty chinese p2w mobile app. If it was profitable for Battlefront 2, of course it will work with Diablo. In spite of all the rage, they will earn tons of money with that piece of trash. Welcome to AAA gaming in the current year, where you are just fodder for all the whales that will give them thousands of dollars just for the privilege of playing a shitty cookie clicker with microtransactions.
To be fair, I'm sure they are making a Diablo card game. It doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities for it to be turned into one. But please no Diablo Royale. I had a laugh at that, but don't give the Overlords at Activision any ideas.
Wasn't Jason the guy calling gamers entitled/rude a few days ago? Now he's misreporting news denied by the company in question? Seems like a perfect example of a "games journalist" to me.
@@BreakGlassForMemes Jason Schreier didn't even expose Filip Muicen. The UA-camr who caught his review being stolen exposed Filip Muicen. Jason Schreier showed up later to latch onto the controversy for hits like a parasite. That was the single thing Muicen got right among his bullshit lies and non-apologies.
That fact that the rumours were wrong.....does that even make it better? The fact that they had NO plans to give their fans a good trailer and didn't know this would happen.....wow. And I thought it couldn't be worse for them.
Honestly, it could still be true and they are just denying because admitting they put the mobile title AHEAD of an actual Diablo 4 would just cause even MORE rage. At least this way they can claim it was all they had.
The trailer was good imo actually, what it advertised wasn't. Now if it was also accompanied by a D2 "Reforged"(lollers) this would have gone down far better.
Isn't Jason Schreier also the guy that criticized gamers for saying that they didn't like the massive DLC assortment and time savers in AC Odyssey. Not exactly objective Journalism.
Yes, he did that. He accused UA-camrs of not knowing what "exploitative" and "predatory" mean. He was rude to them in other ways as well. He blocked anyone without a lot of followers who disagreed with him on Twitter. Then he had the nerve to claim he wanted nuanced discussions. Hey Jason, speaking of not knowing what words mean: you and "nuanced".
Fans like you don't realize this is blizzard and how they have been for years. It's insane that 10 year old good will can be in peoples mind for so fucking long
I'm sick of seeing Schreier's shill face attached to every news story. He doesn't get gamers, he doesn't stand up for gamers, he makes excuses for these greedy and tone deaf companies. UA-camrs like Yong do his job better.
Schreier is two-faced. He likes the attention he gets from giving out the latest news regardless of NDA, but he also wants to attract the publishers so he can get those latest news. And he really doesn't mind drastically switching from one side to the other at a snap of a finger.
NPC#9251253404 Well... and it was a PORT. Meaning that it was already available on something other than phones. The two situations aren’t even close to the same thing.
@@xinf3ctdx They probably thought it would go as well as Bethesda when they announced Fallout Shelter when actually, even Bethesda made sure to send the message of "While you're waiting for Fallout 4, here's a little something you can try out".
Daxank Also doesn’t make sense, since Fallout Shelter was released right then and there alongside the reveal of Fallout 4. You’d have to be totally stupid to think that just announcing a mobile game would go as well as releasing a mobile game while announcing your main game. The situations are totally different, again, and I’m not nearly cynical enough to think they could be THAT stupid.
They never specified land-lines or mobile phones. You'd think ActiBlizzaBungieVision reps would know how to address first-world problems, but here we are.
@@YourTamedLion Also just about the entire UA-cam gaming scene. That even includes the fanboy channels to some extent. TBH, I think that the fan channels that report on wrongdoings are the most important as they help make even the most defensive sides of the fandom realize what's happening.
I can tell you how it really was. VIDEO GAMES ARE NOT CREATED FOR YOUR PLEASURE, THESE ARE PRODUCTS, JUST LIKE A BOTTLE OF MILK IN YOUR LOCAL STORE, THAT ARE CREATED WITH THE SOLE PURPOSE OF MAKING MONEY. IN MORE DETAIL: Activision is the owner and they don't care about the games. They care about the money and from the corporate perspective all this makes a lot of sense. They didn't want to spend extra time and money on developing mobile game, even though they hire a legion of developers, so they went to someone who has the game ready. They bought the code From NetEase and reskinned the game, Time To Market is perfect (almost no development time and less cost + the code was already debugged). NetEase got the marketing they wanted at BlizzCon and Blizzard got their game which costs them come small fee for the code and two seconds of time to mention NetEase. Activision calculated that a mobile game with the brand logo as recognizable as Diablo will bring them a large amount of money. They probably also factored in the market risk of people not being too happy ab ut the mobile game however the players' reaction to this when all of us were waiting for D4 was something they may not have seen.
To me, it seems like you can do almost everything with phones these days except for making calls. (Brings out old foldout Nokia 2760). (not really, but you kinda get what I am trying to say)
Seriously though, I would rather do anything else with a phone when I have a free minute than play a mobile phone "game". Read something, watch something, listen to something... etc. They're all infinitely better.
Its obvious PR damage control with Jason trying to help Blizzard put out the flames through his "investigative journalism", which I normally enjoy but with this Blizzard mess Jason has shown his true colors.
Now, just imagine if that was an under-the-table agreement, and Blizzard has paid Schreier to publish that article just to mitigate the damage. Considering his attitude towards gamers and video game companies, he does sound like a person, who would sell himself as a cheap journalist hooker.
He's a hypocritical shill who has enough connections to get useful leaks and early info. So, yes there's sometimes useful info and often accurate early info/leaks, but still doesn't change him being a bit of a corporate shill shitter. I notice many people ignore all the bad crap with him like that just because he also gets leaks/early info often accurate. Ultimately though he's just a crappy dude who has happened to build up many useful connections over the years in terms of sources. He'll flip-flop back and forth between acting like he's for the consumer but then other times blindly defending/shilling for big business practices, like when he defended AC Odyssey's microtransactions and called anyone who criticized them (even if just mildly with valid points) as just being "toxic, entitled microtransaction haters" lol... He's two-faced as hell.
This is their game, they threaten the game devs in various subtle ways, and then they mysteriously run to the rescue of the megacorp when given certain undisclosed "favors". Game journos do not give a shit about the industry nor its consumers.
@A J he gets leaks cuz he has a contract stating he can have some "leaks" (to help hype the game) as long as he writes whatever they want him to write about It's all organized, when actual leaks they don't want to happen happens, the leaker usually gets sued or their site shut down
"we definitely hear our community" As a long time wow player who skipped the entire previous expansion, I find it hard to believe these people listen to anything their costumers say.
Blizzard hasn't understood their community ever since they fucked up Cataclysm. They needed to make a sequel that was more like WotLK, their most popular and well received expansion of all time, and less like vanilla WoW. Every expansion has failed. When they insulted my group on our insistence on having flying in current content because that's what we enjoyed by saying that we only wanted flying because "we were lazy" is when I said they no longer deserved my money and have not returned to WoW and never will. Putting a troll in charge of the Horde was another huge insult as well. The ONLY good leader choice is Sylvanas, an elf. Every other species horde side is known for being stupid and ugly.
They stopped listening after the big head dev shake up with MoP, and without a good clear result it's gotten worse. Bedding down with Activision is corroding them to the core.
Yeah, the "community" thing was just social lubricant so that idiots would ignore all of the shady shit they do. They want all the benefits of having a community that trusts them, but as soon as you ask them to answer some hard questions, they will delete your downvotes and comments and just wait for you to go away so that they can sell a cheap chinese cookie clicker to whales who will give them thousands of dollars for the privilege of ganking you. That's what "community" means to BlizzActivision, never forget that.
Employee 1: maybe if we reveal D4 after Immortal, people would think we've somewhat redeemed ourselves (Everyone else nods) Boss: you know what would make the reveal of Immortal really stand out? If we didn't announce D4 and the spotlight stayed on Immortal (Applause)
I can't believe fans would be so fickle that announcing a game we know they're working on already would have avoided all this 'controversy'... oh wait, I completely believe that.
Whether D4 will be announce or not, knowing Blizzards track record right now or the industry for that matter, sure not gonna be a surprise if D4 is riddled with live service practices
@@murciadoxial8056 thats because they are journalistic whores. publishers and alike intentionally feed leaks to sponsored sites, they are considered forms of cheap marketing, a very cost effective method of advertising, marketing, opinion shaping etc etc, as they dont have to spend millions on advertising to get everyone talking about their bran and products or being made aware to such, its just another branch of any major publishers/developers marketing budget. this is why many articles on kotaku are overtly biased or focused towards certain points to a ridiculous extent as they are sponsored articles. its why sponsored sites often repeat the same theme, because they are supplied a outline from the publishers etc on what they would like them to say about their product. even companies like nvidia invest into a very large marketing budget in all major game related websites and sources and also a budget which invests in trying to undermine/destroy or take over popular sources that do not give favorable opinions of them and their products. this is normal business practice of the industry and when any site or source is highly favorable and "trusted" by the industry to feed what they want to their target audience, they often become common points of leaks and exclusive information access. this also includes some less known, but still popular sources as they understand many gamers will ignore the mainstream top 10 sites and prefer a more underground feel to their preferred information source. which is why even bloggers, reddit users etc are often sponsored as well, leaving us with a very limited selection of high profile sources for reliable and trusted information that isnt being sponsored in some shape of form from the industry leaders. nvidia also has a active program were it attempts to acquire sponsorship on "anyone" that has any significant following or influence, but also again blacklists them if they reject their approach and attempts to undermine them and their community for long as they reject their sponsorship. which is why the top 10 is always very favorable to the industry and not the consumer, after all google/youtube's business model is also to support this as well. so its no surprise what happened with the recent diablo uproar of downvotes overtly vanishing without the video being re-uploaded.

Blizzard has the most devoted, hardcore pc players/fanbase from their games and one of them being the anticipation for a new Diablo ip, and they "didn't expect" that a huge announcement for a mobile game on blizzcon would be a major disappointment? Blizzard? Brain? Where?
Blizzard hasn't unlocked the brain in the Activision Supply Stream yet. And since anything in the supply stream costs money if you don't want to grind, maybe they'll unlock it after Immortal makes them a shit ton of money, because regardless of the backlash it'll still make them bank unfortunately.
@neil finder Never tasted it. Never played a blizzard game in my life except overwatch. And I'm permabanne from overwatch because Blizzard are full of SJW fuckheads who think swearing in chat is bannable.

If they even care to make it bluestacks compatible that is. NetEase hasn't been too good about making their games compatible with bluestacks in my experience.
"Diablo 4 has changed drastically over the past 4 years" "Diablo has undergone at least 2 different iterations under different directions" calling it now, diablo 4 is gonna be the next final fantasy XV: its gonna be 10 years, 2 different engines and 2 complete overhauls until it gets released and guess what? Its gonna be an unfinished, rushed and overall disappointing game.
Not to mentions it really is a bad time on developing it considering that PS5/nextgen console are just around the corner which might as well add another workhours in dev'ing/testing it.
I'm just gonna not listen to kotaku/polygon/gamespot/etc. anymore. these guys wanna discredit *real* gamers who actually have passion for the IPs they love and call them entitled or misogynistic.. meanwhile making shit up about a diablo 4 reveal to try and make it seem like blizzard are the victims of something. I'm done with mainstream media, dude. I'm done.
And what is the alternative??? Some guy reporting from his mom's basement on youtube? How is that more credible? Most of these guys use the larger, more mainstream outlets as their source, add their opinion or spin, and them call it "news" while insulting the very platforms they use to make money!
TheDevilmayfart subbed to em all, already. love me some good ol jim sterling. there are also smaller news sites that keep their political biases out of their video game reviews and reports.
worthabuy is also worth mentioning, a few others as well like It'sAGundam as well. not so much angry joe "anymore"... as he is hooked up with nvidia these days, its why for many recent angry gamer reactions/review etc he has been giving abnormally favorable opinions to those games while playing down justified complaints against them. he is trying walk the fence keeping nvidia and friends happy as well as his subscribers, but its obvious his opinions have shifted in favor of of the industry were his sponsorship is concerned. ofcourse this favorable attitude only applies to games nvidia and partners has financial gains to be made from. its why he has access to special interviews and alike more these days, were before he had been rejected access to many events due to companies like nvidia and friends getting involved etc, due to his "negative" reviews and video rants. its why with star citizen he was nit picking so much, which is 100% justified and its good he did so, but clearly also didnt do any research prior to the interview, so the interview was 90% waste in result and basically asked allot of stupid questions loop typical of a ignorant game journalist. he was just trying to look like he was asking the tuff questions way to hard to compensate for not doing so with nvidia and friends backed games of recent, were he has been trying to help sell those games to the public, while downplaying justified critic against them. its why he hasnt uploaded anything for the diablo reaction to the mobile game announcement despite historically being something he would have chimed in on, because nvidia has investments with activation etc, so if he ever does upload anything related he is waiting for the fire to die down so he doesnt add any more fuel to it or scripting reasons to try play it down so his opinion is clearly favoring activation/blizzard and not shitting down their necks, like he historically would have done, but not anymore. and even if he does, waiting so long, is indicative of him trying to minimize the impact of doing so, after its old news etc. used to like angry joe, but ever since he signed up with nvidia, he has become favorable were ever nvidia and friends investments reside in the game industry.
Their bad reputation is mostly propaganda. They consistently break very important stories from the gaming world and their reports are probably the most professional in the industry. But you know, they write about things like sexual harassment, gender discrimination in the workplace, and shine the light on practices of specific people that are by and large media and gamer darlings. So gamers hate them.

The only issue I really take with waiting till it's closer to release to announce it. Let's take another rather beloved company, CDPR, They announced Cyberpunk 2077 on Jan 10, 2013, and we didn't hear a peep from them until just before Jun 10, 2018. No one revolted, everyone was thankful for just telling us, we're working on something. More than 5 years with nothing but that teaser to hold us over, no one bitched or complained, the days of development without just a simple teaser and good faith towards fans are kind of over. Just a title card with Diablo 4: evil takes time to make or something else with a wink to acknowledge the fans patience would have gone a tremendous way for goodwill. I mean we waited 13 years for Diablo 3, they could remember that and give us a little cookie for being so patient. *addition Quin69 a professional gamer, streamer, and Diablo theory crafter and points out very smartly that Blizzard themselves openly mocked the prospect of making a Diablo mobile game in 2014, clearly since then things have changed on how they view things. ua-cam.com/video/KaazBIjOvyc/v-deo.html
I guess Bliz/Act finally woke up to the fact that China contains rather a lot of people and that, by and large, Asian gamers are far more comfortable with monetization going so far as to be accepting of pay to win gimmickry. I get this first hand from a Chinese gamer (yes, I'm aware China isn't the only Asian country) I know who's usually pretty reserved about such things. Could be exaggeration, but they didn't pick NetEase for nothing, and mobile games are rarely more than monetization engines, so...you don't have to do a lot of guessing about motivations. Also, gamers do indeed tend to trust CDPR. They haven't fucked us over. They haven't treated us like idiots. The same has long since been unable to be said for Blizzard. Activision isn't even worth mentioning as they've never considered gamers anything more than drooling morons waiting to be milked.

One year is too long to wait for real Diablo news. If they wait a year they're going to be completely crushed by the community. They have to get rid of this 90s era tight-lipped communication, or lack thereof. They need to come out and announce what they're doing and apologize.
It will turn out to be the biggest ploy and publicity stunt in Blizz history, now they got the entire community riled up and talking about Diablo and hungry for more Diablo news, if they drop D4 news now or in few weeks everyone will jump on it and eat it to wash away the bitter taste of Diablo:Immortal. But I do have a feeling they really didn't have anything now to show for D4 cause it's mostly concept art and design documents (probably nothing solid playable like D3 announcement).
@mythical orange A real publicity stunt would be, right after Red Shirt Guy asked about off season April Fool’s joke, answering “Yes, it is.” And continued to announce Diablo 4. That would’ve been epic and the likes and dislikes of Diablo Immortal trailer probably would’ve been reversed.
Isn't he's the one trying to defend microtransaction? I don't trust a word coming out of his mouth. Here he is trying to kiss ass on Blizzard by making up a story but Blizzard dismissed it. That's how I see what happened.
That was HIM!? The guy from Kotaku I mean?... Well, either way the corrected story with a response from Slightly Cold Front is pure PR spin, 3.7 billion in losses will do that to a company.
I have to say, I greatly appreciate the way in which you present your content. You admit when you're not able to draw definitive conclusions, you don't speculate unnecessarily, and you frankly do a lot of research into your topics, not to mention that you seem to be well put together whether your video is posted at morning, noon, or night Keep up the great work; these are one man's appreciations of another's methods 👍
i admit he was quite good journo because he has wide insider acces but their virtue signalling make all respect i had for him and kotaku turned into cinder everytime they said masculinity.
He's also the same guy who called fans of anime "pedophiles" too. The characters he was complaining about, had mature motherly figures. What a clown. The artist's response of posting old naked men, to match "Jason's tastes", was legendary! :P
Diablo and WoW... It hurts a bit to see what they've become. There's some hope that Blizzard can recover those franchises, but the odds are not in their favor considering recent history.
I would not be surprised if Blizzard did this. They've done this in the past with their other games. Lets see... Oh yeah the failure known as Warlords of Draenor expansion in WoW. Blizzard promised a lot of content for that expansion and only gave the players 30% of it. The rest was scrapped. Oh and they only released 2 major patches , one of those two was enabling you to do a raid that was available but locked at release. Again, why is it that people are still surprised that Blizzard does this? They've done it so many times.
I personally quit playing WoW after the WoD fiasco. Blizzard lost all respect (and financial support) from me. It's still crazy to see how much *worse* they've gotten years later... but if people are going to continue supporting their nonsense, I guess I can't blame Blizzard for being scummy. They've essentially learned they can get away with it now.
@@TortureVisionTV you know what would be really nice? A single player rpg version of WoW, but where you can choose your main char and faction like the mmo, with its class and race, and then have that player character be voice acted.

I wish I could jump back in every now and again, just for an hour or two, to revisit the world. But I don't think a solo WoW RPG will ever be on the horizon... or any other WoW related side-content. @@Reds-Retros Oh fair enough. I actually like Kotaku's slightly nasty tone when a dev fucks up (their report on All The Bravest made me chuckle) but I've always been reluctant to take their word as gospel.
Even if the Diablo 4 Reveal was pulled from Blizzcon, how hard is it to just put a Diablo 4 Wallpaper on the screen? The fact that they barely had any idea about the release date of Diablo Immortal makes it look like they are WAY FURTHER back in release of any of their other projects and in this case Diablo 4.
Been a long time watcher and just wanted to leave a comment of thank you for always giving such well researched and accurate gaming news! You really are like the number 1 source for whats going on in the gaming world imo. This story in particular I have been watching like a hawk and you still manage to report stuff I was unaware of lol.
Na na Diablo IV doesn't exist yet... That's why it wasn't shown at Blizzcon. They say Blizzard is working on multiple Diablo projects but all we've seen are Diablo III ports to current gen consoles and the Switch that include two character classes plus an expansion in the last two-three years. The only other thing Diablo related is immortal and Blizzard isn't even working on it themselves so wtf has Blizzard been doing? Either they're lying about the other Diablo projects to cover their asses 'cause theirs no current evidence they are working on Diablo IV let alone anything at all. Their team is so badly managed they've accomplished nothing in the last 4 years (not even concept art which is very unlikely) and they've chosen not to put out a reveal trailer for this reason. My best guess is they are lying and haven't even started it hence it doesn't exist yet... Even if we got a reveal trailer tomorrow it'd have a ridiculously long release date tied to it which means two years minimum. A question for you though... How sh!tty would it be if it turned out what they're REALLY working on is a card game and that's what will be shown next Blizzcon lol i tell ya' those Q&A panelist's would be missing some teeth right now if they announced immortal AND a Diablo card game lol so maybe that's what really happened hmm?
diablo 3 is considered a financial flop far as activision bliazzrd is concerned, which is why diablo 4 never went into development and why they are simply trying to port and milk it to other platforms, were obviously the mobile market is the place to go if all you care about is milking $$$ and tons of easy $$$ for little effort. you have games costing a few K and netting millions in revenue, its a greedy corporations dream market. even though diablo 3 would be considered a financial success far as a genuine developer is concerned and generated solid profits enough to make multiple games under old school development business practices... far as corporate business model is concerned its a failure, as it doesnt do enough to milk and leech the consumer dry of every $$$ in their pockets and on a weekly basis after they get paid or their parents get paid. diablo 4 will eventually be made, but it will be intended to milk the consumer wallet per current day game design and after diablo 3 and its low budget re-skins have been properly milked first.
It won't. Most of its great looking armor is behind a pay wall. Besides that there are some other great ARPGs on the horizon like wolcen or project TL. No need for Poe.
Yeah friendly reminder poe is Chinese now, its only matter of when not if, when it becomes paywalled grind fest. So far Wolcen is only game that may be good in that genera but progress is rether slow so who knows.
Yeeeeah, sorry but I don't buy it... this sounds too much like damage control meant to reassure fans that diablo 4 is a thing and give the. Something to look forward to, and to make it seem legit because it's a "leak." It's the same thing like when Bethesda revealed fallout 76, and nothing else to go with it like that rumored fallout 3 remaster (hey guys, remember fallout 3? Well here's fallout shelter on the psn! * holds for applause, realizes there is none* and then at the end, because they sensed a lynching a'comin', just said "oh yeah, star field and elder scrolls 6 are a thing, okay bye!" And it was confirmed later that week that they only did it to try and reassure fans that they were still committed to single player rpgs, because even at that stage they kinda knew f76 was a big piece of shit... let me put it this way: if they actually HAD a diablo 4 announcement, they would've made it already. Like I said, I really feel sorry for the fans, but this just strikes me as a mix of wishful thinking and corporate manipulation...
No, no, no. You don't get it. They have to make, scrap and then rush a remake of a game before they can release it. Then they can complain that AAA games are too expensive to make and give us more money.
Just what you are saying alone shows you have absolutely no idea what goes into making these games. The frustration and the countless things that can go wrong when developing games from art, to story, to design, to mechanics, there are a ton of things that can go wrong. One line of code can be enough to ruin months of work and the lack of being able to test every single iteration and line of code makes it to where you can have no idea where you went wrong. Like seriously open the code for even a basic game, and you will get lines upon lines upon lines of code, every single line is necessary for something to work correctly and that could be all just for a simple top down game. Now imagine all the factors 3D models, enemies, enemy ai, movement, abilities, damage, (lol you know how difficult health regen is to actually get right?) Health regen a basic part of these types of games and it is a pain to get correctly unless you are really good with code and have extensive knowledge of it. Not to mention different coders have different ways of going about coding. Code is a language that in order to do it you learn the basics and build up on your own. So just like any other language people will do things differently as it is easier for them, hence where like slang comes through, same happens with coding, people find different ways to do things. So in order to make things easier they may try an adopt a uniform style of coding, well imagine speaking a certain way for years and then now you need to talk a different way. Breaking habits is hard which will lead to mistakes. Mistakes that unlike normal language, is caught in a tidal wave of more language that takes an extremely well trained eye to find if it is up there with complications. So yes, these companies are fully entitled to take their time like this cause they are trying to do it right. Every iteration is them scrapping literally hours of their work because they believe it isn't good enough. Think about that. Imagine spending months maybe even years on this work only for it to get scrapped and then do it again with the same risk of it not going through. That takes dedication and heart to achieve. Them scrapping ideas is probably more frustrating to them than to us cause they put in the effort for us and they believed it wasn't enough for us. If it some bs crap game like their mobile edition which looks like literally diablo 3 moved to mobile yeah we can be frustrated but when its a game the caliber of ES VI or a complete story like D4....that's an insane amount of work to go through. With tons of people pouring their lives into it. All just to possibly be scrapped and restarted. Sorry for the rant but people like you are frustrating to listen to as you have no idea what goes into making a game. Personally i haven't worked on any huge games but i have worked on game developments and even the small dumb games can take almost a year to make, so its not hard to get a picture of what a game of that caliber looks like
Overwatch always had an identity crisis. It wanted to be a popular game and an esports game too. "Balancing" is keeping the game in an uncomplete state where your players actively try to find what is best to play for an edge over the rest of the players. However they can't have 2 "balances", 1 for the 90% of the players and a 2nd for the top 10%. Not to mention that there is no point to balance when you can switch a character on the fly. You gotta keep the effectiveness of caracters around the same level unless you want 1v5 games which tend to happen anyway. But to top it off the fucking matchmaking takes a giant turd on "fairness".
I completely agree with all of your thoughts in this video. You mentioned "Guess all we can do now is wait for next year's BlizzCon" - that is exactly what annoys me personally the most. Haven't we done that since 2014? Haven't we all been waiting every freaking year for Blizzard to announce some Diablo content? Now another year? Plus even if they tease Diablo 4 next year that means its release will be, what, end of 2020? Maybe 2021? Four years straight nothing and now their #1 project is some freaking mobile game? They could have developed Diablo: Immortal alongside Diablo 4 but from what I've learned at BlizzCon they rather spend their resources elsewhere... I hope that your videos get Blizzard's attention so that they eventually'll get what they did wrong because as I can see from their reactions they still see no fault on their side...
They could've just made Immortal a mobile spin-off like Fallout Shelter,TES : Blades and that Gears Of War mobile game but noooooooooo they just had to make it the next main Diablo game. Idiots.
Yongyea, there was also a Diablo comic book series in the works, artworks were already shown. Then, a few weeks ago, it suddenly got cancelled, check Rhykker youtube channel for more information.

I agree. It's not like gamers haven't been clear about what they are wishing for the past 6 years conserving Diablo. The ball wasn't just dropped, it was stabbed repeatedly and buried 12 feet deep in a basement. Damn man, what a betrayal.
As an emissary of the now-ruined realm of Sanctuary, and as such, a Diablo refugee as well as many others, I do have a couple of positive things to say news-wise. Grim Dawn is quite good, and coming to Xbox One, though I've no idea when. Path of Exile, for those that find controller play more comfortable and feel "stung" by the console version being only on Xbox One, well fear not! That changes in December of this year, and it's coming to PS4! There are also many other ARPG's in development on PC for the biggest renaissance of this genre since 2012. As for Jason and Kotaku, I have nothing to say. Much like I'd have nothing to say to my ex wife. That's the level of disdain I feel. But all is not lost.
Path of Exile is crap. The devs made the mistake of making their game like the crap that is Diablo 2 rather than the vast improvement that is Diablo 3.
@@GeorgeMonet It's a matter of preference and perspective. Different people like different things when it comes to combat systems and character development, leveling, other RPG mechanics. Maybe both games were too challenging for you? I dunno. Point being; it's an option. A free one, at that.

Either way it's hard to believe both kotaku and blizzard statements. Would be hilarious if this so called diablo 4 announcement video were to leak in the near future though.
There was a slight hint that Diablo 4 was scrapped from BlizzCon last minute during an unofficial statement made on Rhykkers showcase stream. Apparently, the person saying this on his stream had a blog yet to finish and blizzard did not want to pair an announcement without the ability to follow up with the blog. Have not viewed the VODs on this as of yet though, so see for yourself if you wish to confirm that.
I love all the classic Blizzard Games, if Blizzard had said that they were going to remake the original with the Sierra expansion with the Mobile while mentioning Diablo 4 as a in the works currently project I think there would be less of an issue.
You should not trust any company. They want to get your money, not be your friends. They can create art with passion and joint hard work of hundreds of devs, but that goes away when success hits and suits take over the boss chair. I'd bring up CDPR against my comment. They have a huge lead because of the cheaper workforce they have in Poland, but I think it is only a matter of time till corruption hits them as well.
Credit to Blizzard for not calling Jason out for “shoddy journalism” when denying the report. If nothing else, that’s the best behaviour I’ve seen from AAA developers for a long time.
At D23 (official Disney fan convention), they announce concept movies, games, and projects that never see the light of day. They stress that this is a project in the making and is still being revised, but they show us test footage, the team working on it, concept art, etc. Kingdom Hearts 3 and Spider Man were informally announced this way. It takes time to get a great product out, we get it. The bait & switch stunt Blizzard pulled was inexcusable.
I'm all for Blizzard taking their time with announcing Diablo 4, they just shouldn't close BlizzCon with a Diablo mobile...

Hopefully we’ll get a Diablo 4 announcement during Microsoft’s XO 2018 event

IN MORE DETAIL:
Activision is the owner and they don't care about the games.
"Don't you guys have phones?"
To make calls, yeah.
To me, it seems like you can do almost everything with phones these days except for making calls. (Brings out old foldout Nokia 2760).

And everyone immediately whipped out their phones to begin shitting on him for that comeback.

Seriously though, I would rather do anything else with a phone when I have a free minute than play a mobile phone "game". Read something, watch something, listen to something... etc. They're all infinitely better.
I don't even have one of those fancy phones. But even if i did, i wouldn't be wasting the battery for games.
"No bitch I got a pager."
Jason's story seems toxic and entitled.
Its obvious PR damage control with Jason trying to help Blizzard put out the flames through his "investigative journalism", which I normally enjoy but with this Blizzard mess Jason has shown his true colors.
Let's not forget Schreier is also part of the "journalists" that shilled on Blizzard and called the deserved backlash as toxic hate and entitlement.
@A J he gets leaks cuz he has a contract stating he can have some "leaks" (to help hype the game) as long as he writes whatever they want him to write about
It's all organized, when actual leaks they don't want to happen happens, the leaker usually gets sued or their site shut down

They just dont care so long as the $$$ keeps rolling in
Blizzard hasn't understood their community ever since they fucked up Cataclysm.
"Hearing" and "listening" are two different things. Triple A companies these days hear us, but they don't listen to us.
Yeah, the "community" thing was just social lubricant so that idiots would ignore all of the shady shit they do.

Since when Kotaku became a reliable source or even have a credible articles?
they have been pretty reliable when it comes to leaks, astonishingly reliable
Why are more and more companies and studios growing in disconnection when it comes to producers and consumers? Surely it can't just be money.
It is just money.
They are so disconnected! Just look at them trying to focus more on the market that is forecasted to grow to 2.5 billion people by 2019!

"Diablo 4 has changed drastically over the past 4 years"
"Diablo has undergone at least 2 different iterations under different directions"
calling it now, diablo 4 is gonna be the next final fantasy XV: its gonna be 10 years, 2 different engines and 2 complete overhauls until it gets released and guess what? Its gonna be an unfinished, rushed and overall disappointing game.
And you are sent trough time to inform us about it
@Johnny Flannigan You posted and there are at least two more people here, immediately disproving that.
I liked Final Fantasy XV
That is a bit negative, but the industry trends lately give every reason for gamers to be pessimistic.
SD yong seems to be pretty on-top of things
Welcome aboard bro. I recommend yong, jim sterling, and angry joe for fair pro-consumer reports. Mainstream media is trash.
TheDevilmayfart subbed to em all, already. love me some good ol jim sterling. there are also smaller news sites that keep their political biases out of their video game reviews and reports.
worthabuy is also worth mentioning, a few others as well like It'sAGundam as well.
not so much angry joe "anymore"...
as he is hooked up with nvidia these days, its why for many recent angry gamer reactions/review etc he has been giving abnormally favorable opinions to those games while playing down justified complaints against them.
he is trying walk the fence keeping nvidia and friends happy as well as his subscribers, but its obvious his opinions have shifted in favor of of the industry were his sponsorship is concerned.
ofcourse this favorable attitude only applies to games nvidia and partners has financial gains to be made from.
its why he has access to special interviews and alike more these days, were before he had been rejected access to many events due to companies like nvidia and friends getting involved etc, due to his "negative" reviews and video rants.
its why with star citizen he was nit picking so much, which is 100% justified and its good he did so, but clearly also didnt do any research prior to the interview, so the interview was 90% waste in result and basically asked allot of stupid questions loop typical of a ignorant game journalist.
he was just trying to look like he was asking the tuff questions way to hard to compensate for not doing so with nvidia and friends backed games of recent, were he has been trying to help sell those games to the public, while downplaying justified critic against them.
its why he hasnt uploaded anything for the diablo reaction to the mobile game announcement despite historically being something he would have chimed in on, because nvidia has investments with activation etc, so if he ever does upload anything related he is waiting for the fire to die down so he doesnt add any more fuel to it or scripting reasons to try play it down so his opinion is clearly favoring activation/blizzard and not shitting down their necks, like he historically would have done, but not anymore.
and even if he does, waiting so long, is indicative of him trying to minimize the impact of doing so, after its old news etc.
used to like angry joe, but ever since he signed up with nvidia, he has become favorable were ever nvidia and friends investments reside in the game industry.
strange to hear that kotaku, one of THE worst game journalists on the internet, provided us this information, n'est ce pas?
Their bad reputation is mostly propaganda. They consistently break very important stories from the gaming world and their reports are probably the most professional in the industry.
But you know, they write about things like sexual harassment, gender discrimination in the workplace, and shine the light on practices of specific people that are by and large media and gamer darlings. So gamers hate them.
Kotaku or not it doesn't matter, Jason is THE most trusted and reliable journalist in the game industry.

Didn't know kotaku was still up lol they're trying all they can to get some attention apparently

Don't even care about the Diablo series anymore. D3 killed my interest for good.
Bye felicia
It will turn out to be the biggest ploy and publicity stunt in Blizz history, now they got the entire community riled up and talking about Diablo and hungry for more Diablo news, if they drop D4 news now or in few weeks everyone will jump on it and eat it to wash away the bitter taste of Diablo:Immortal.
But I do have a feeling they really didn't have anything now to show for D4 cause it's mostly concept art and design documents (probably nothing solid playable like D3 announcement).

Crusaders of Light: Diablo Edition
Better be precise with the naming, some entitled toxic gamers might call your "product" a skinpack.

They should have at least end with "We have more Diablo projects in the making, don't worry" and not "Don't you have phones?"

These companies have no excuse for taking ridiculously long times to get something going.
ES VI and D4 should be nearly done, not barely started.
No, no, no. You don't get it. They have to make, scrap and then rush a remake of a game before they can release it. Then they can complain that AAA games are too expensive to make and give us more money.
Gotta build hype, so even a half assed game will turn out to be a success as well. After all, investors hate risk...
ES VI taking ages makes sense, as all reason and logic says they have to make a new game engine.
You have no idea how software development works
Personally i haven't worked on any huge games but i have worked on game developments and even the small dumb games can take almost a year to make, so its not hard to get a picture of what a game of that caliber looks like
On an other note, congrats to kotaku and Jason for updating/apologising about the mistake.

@@GeorgeMonet
You can actually but it's gonna be hard to balance stuff in game.
Idiots.
