Saw a dusty one of these today at a little store, think it was $85 or $89 ? Was there buying an old red label HP 18 for $110. Now thinking about going back and getting this one ? Cheers
Its fantastic stuff. Apparently around 15 years old, too, although it's NAS. Sherry forward and delicious. One of my favourite affordable HPs. Comes recommended from me!
Hi G Whisky. I can’t decide I could get this for 90 euro or Highland Park the Dark ob for 220 euro or the Highland Park Red Label 18 for 150 euro. Another one would be Bunnahabein 18 and a 21 year Aberfeldy in wine cask at 48 percent abv. Can you help me? I really enjoyed the red label HP 18 with the red label. What do you think is the best way to go? I also saw Cadenhead put out a 26 small batch highland park I would dream to get. But that one is a dream.
Hi Jonah. I'm not sure what you mean by HP18 red label. The older bottling? I had it ages ago. It's a nice whisky, but it's nowhere near as good as Bunnahabhain 18. I've never tried HP The Dark or Aberfeldy, so I can't really comment. All I can say is that Bunna 18 is a really tough whisky to beat! 🥃

I haven't had the Twisted Tattoo, so I cant comment. From what I understand it's a Rioja finish, which sounds interesting. As for this one, it represents HP at its most sherried. Best core range expression I've had from them to date.
I mean there are a lot of specific bottles that I think this beats out. It's allegedly in the 15 year old category, so I'd take this over stuff like Glenfarclas 15, Glendronach 15, GlenAllachie 15...

That he thinks it’s one of the most if not the most disappointing bottle he’s ever had. If that wasn’t bad enough, he said he can’t detect much sherry in it at all?! And that it tastes really young and the 12 is way better. Now I know everyone is different but from his review to yours is a night and day difference. Could the bottlings differ that much?? Mind you he’s the one of the two that likes sherry scotches too. Anyhow, I’ll be buying it soon to find out for myself.

I guess it's possible there are differences between bottlings, but I've had several bottles of this and it's never been inconsistent for me. Might just be a big difference of opinion. I find plenty of rich sherry myself. As I mentioned, it's said to be about 15 years old. To me that sounds about right. I didn't get much youth or sharpness either. Well, when you do finally get it, hopefully your takeaway is closer to mine than his. Love this stuff!
I know this is an old review. But here goes: I can buy one of these and I’m sure it’s the last time I’ll see it in the wild. Also there’s a possible last chance to buy a bladnoch 10. However it’s going for a whopping $110. Or…. The HP dark origins which I never got around to buying for $80. What do you think? I’m on a limited budget. Have @100 to spend. Or I can get some 18 yr old online instead ?
Both are great! I doubt you can find an 18 year old in the $100 range. I think the HP is safer as it's cheaper and has a much more accessible profile. The Bladnoch 10 I've never tried, but it's legendary. The 11 was amazing, but it's a bit of an oddball and not for everyone. Let me know what you land on, buddy! 🥃

Was very sad to see this one ended by highland park. It was a great scotch and I am looking to buy more but without finding any around... 🤣🤣
