1.Eminem cant let shady go because nobody will 2.He doesnt actually think anyones trying to cancel him, marshall is using slim shady (the character) as a vessel to make fun of people that think hes under fire for shit he said 20 years ago 3.The Taylor Swift / Iggy Hoe line isnt about popularity, he's calling mgk a popstar
Exactly, TDoSS was about Em showing the rest of the world why they have to let go of shady, it just isn't who he is anymore. Unfortunately most people didn't get the memo.
I always took the Taylor/Iggy line a few ways. Em groups the artists names in three groups of two: A) Biggie and Jay undeniably great rappers, B) Taylor Swift and “that Iggy-Ho” (Iggy Azalea) who we’ll talk about in a minute, and C) Ja and Benzino who are in Em’s eyes mediocre rappers that he killed and publicly humiliated. Groups A and C have easy connections between the two artists, but B is a bit more confusing. Taylor and Iggy don’t have a ton in common. “They’re both pop stars”, ehhh. Are they? Taylor certainly. Iggy, ehh. Maybe in 2012 or whenever, but she’s always been more of a rap artist. Not a good one, but that’s the lane she’s been attempting to drive in. The only obvious connection to me is that they’re women, but I don’t think Em is making some kind of comment about MGK being a bitch. The easy interpretation is You’re not in anyone’s list of great rappers, certainly not anywhere near the likes of biggie or Jay. You’re not even good at pop music like Taylor or Iggy. After I destroy you you’ll be remembered like Benzino and Ja. And that’s a totally fair interpretation. What I’ve always wondered is why group Taylor and iggy together. Iggy, fine. Weird choice for this, but she is a “rapper” so makes sense to be here. Taylor, strange. Not like she hasn’t been mentioned in rap songs. She was just in the Kendrick/Drake thing, but it seems odd. What if group B is paired together not because they’re both pop stars, but because they’re both shitty rappers. We all unfortunately remember the Karma era for Taylor. The Swifties on Twitter tweeting about how Taylor can rap better than Kendrick, which doesn’t even need to have its stupidity be acknowledged. Em specifically calls Iggy a ho which tells me that he doesn’t hold her in high regard. To be fair why would he, but if he’s not holding one person in the pair in high regard it wouldn’t make sense for the other person to be someone he respected. Biggie and Jay, Ja and Benzino. Those pairs fit the same mold, but Taylor and Iggy don’t have anything in common except being shitty rappers. With that lens the verse changes to: You’re not in anyone’s list of great rappers, certainly not anywhere near the likes of biggie or Jay. You’re not even good enough to be put on the list near shitty rappers like Taylor or Iggy. After I destroy you you’ll be remembered like Benzino and Ja. This interpretation has always been way funnier to me. It’s one thing to tell someone “you’re not on anyone’s top 5/25”. Like, yeah. Duh. It’s MGK. But to say to a man, “not only are you not on anyone’s top 5/25, you’re so far down the list that you’re not even close to Taylor Swift and Iggy Azalea is a 3rd degree burn”.

I really think the only reason people thought it was competitive was because MGK has good cadence (like, he sounds like he can spit and he can put together punchlines but they're kinda corny) and that beat. Is. HARD. Hard af. The way Killshot starts give me the imagery of Em listening to Rap Devil, rolling his eyes, putting down his fork and just walking directly into the booth. Also, for "Big Three" I think that's always really more to do with them being from the same generation. But yeah, my favorite Em mode is when somebody actually wants smoke.
Ye em is ffom that 99 00 era and tbf if we talk about a big 3 from that era it would be him wayne and kanye I mea. Wayne dominated the 2006 Em had his 3 albums in a row And kanye again with graduation and late registration Then from the 90 maybe a pac biggie and nas

Eminem didn't know about the tweet until MGK complained about not being let on to shade 45. Eminem himself(on an interview with Sway) said he didn't care about MGK or what he was doing, Em is also a battle rapper why would he do some lame ish like that.
Em's diss is the same as watching a very good team who's very focused on winning, despite going against an average team that's trying so hard and failing at every play
A perfect football team can beat an okay team 28-0. To get those generational blowouts that people write books and make documentaries about, the other team has to make a bunch of mistakes. That's what made the Drake vs Kendrick and MGK vs Eminem beefs so entertaining: one side was fully locked in while the other side had butt-fumbles and interceptions off of trick plays.
As a current 21 year old, there is no possible world where I would think it appropriate to think let alone call a 16 year old “hot” under any circumstances

2018 was one of the best years to be an Eminem fan in recent times. The Chloraseptic remix, him going on tour, Kamikaze suprise drop, multiple MV‘s, the interview with Sway, the MGK beef. Lots of great Em content that year.
7:48 "Need yall memories jarred" but also "need JA memories jarred", Em also buried Ja Rule back in the day along with 50 Cent, its considered one of the most brutal beatdowns he ever gave in a rap beef like, the two of them ended Ja Rules entire career, mf had to start selling tickets to scam festivals out on random islands lmao
Em won this battle way back in like 07-08 when he made Syllables "It is not about lyrics anymore It's about a hot beat and a catchy hook." The only people that thought Kelly won are people who don't listen to lyrics.
And you got the steins gate pfp. Nah you the goat my guy. Greatest anime ever. And yeah you 100% right bro called it like 10 years before the SoundCloud era. And 10 years before this mgk diss. Dude is a prophet.
And it wasn’t just that he said something rude about Eminem’s daughter. He also hopped on a track with Tech N9ne and dis Eminem on it just to get attention.
Iirc it was more that he did it behind Tech N9ne's back, cause N9ne only found out it was a dies after the song was already out, hence the "no subs, Kelly" line in Not Alike
16:02 honestly I’ve never understood the “who’s talking about Em” when he comes up every time and everyone says “no one talks about him…” WHILE TALKING ABOUT HIM and this is like every music podcast, media doesn’t talk about Em but the people do that’s why Eminem videos get so many views
I’m NGL I’m fr happy you made this video. I grew up a huge Eminem fan. My father put me on, and I’m still a fan to this day. I have grown past thinking the GOAT, but I can still give the man his flowers. I look forward to hearing what you’ve got to say.
The thing where MGK says Em called demanding an apology even if it did happen, probably didn't go down like that. It could very easily be Em talked with Jimmy about it who called Diddy as a let's talk this out situation. But MGK has the emotional intelligence of a 9 year old. So he takes it as he wants me to apologize, nah that's a bitch move. When he could've just said hey I'm sorry, I wasn't aware she was underage & I was a dumb kid at the time. They probably could've just moved on after that. They may have even collaborated, but here we are...
The bar with em calling mgk a satanist went a bit unnoticed. The diddy connection. I dont think most people comprehend how depraved people in the industry are.
MGK's diss had a lot of Eminem discography references and I'm positive even the diss at Eminem's beard is a reference to how Eminem said "'Til we grow beards, get weird and disappear Into the mountains, nothin' but clowns down here" in his song "Business". I could be wrong but seeing his other references, it just sounds like he really was trying to Stan diss even on that reference. Really sounded more like a tribute than a proper diss, praising the other too much.
In regards to mgk’s one good diss, I absolutely agree but I also think if you listen to em’s new album he’d also agree. I quite liked the new album it took me by surprise, seems like he is actually trying to grow and confront why slim shady existed in the first place.
@ Hell yeah. I appreciate that the track you used was from Voice Memos haha. 🔥 Do you have a favorite track from that album, or just a fav Quad track in general?
Not calling TDOSS a masterpiece it’s far from it but the cancel thing was more so apart of the story of the album. I think he knows he won’t be cancelled. That truly awful video of that lady rapping about him kinda shows how unhinged some of his “Stans” are.
15:50 that’s the point of the album. He often gets told he hasn’t been good since Slim Shady persona so he made the fictional album about if Slim Shady were to still be around. He also talks about how Slim Shady was a result of drug addiction and people wanting him back is wanting his addiction back. It’s a good (albeit corny at times) listen but it’s also fictional. He doesn’t actually think anyone is trying to cancel him.
Omg. This was hilarious 😆. MGK was taunting Eminem and he made him put the mic down. He was telling Eminem that we’re both white rappers and u should be mentoring me. Newsflash: That means nothing to Em. He gets along with ppl bc he does and will call out anyone.
Imo when em is at his peak he is actually a top 3 rapper all time easy, but he just has a rollercoaster of a discography. Too many lows among those peaks unfortunately
If you’re a new Eminem fan, please listen to the older disses and try and learn the history, em has been a demon on the mic since his beginning. Bully, Nail in the Coffin, Do Rae Me(Hailie’s Revenge), Go To Sleep, Bump Heads, Hail Mary, Girls, Quitter, Cannibi*ch, The Warning, Bagpipes From Baghdad. I left out a few but these are the main ones about people in the industry
You should actually listen to eminems death of slim shady album (in order), it'll suprise you. Because he pretty much agrees with what you're saying, he confronts slim shady on his bs, and basically says he's moved on and matured from those days.
To play a little bit of (rap) devil’s advocate, back when Rap Devil came out, the beat was just so good and the vibe of the song was so fun, my friends and I would bump it all the time. Like we *knew* the bars were corny and we knew Em’s diss track was going to destroy him but idk there was something so fun about that song when it came out. I have great memories of those days. And after Killshot came out, we’d all just listen to both songs back to back over and over because we liked the beat and the vibe of Rap Devil more but we liked the skill and bars of Killshot more, so we’d just play them both. It’s to the point where even to this day my best friend will occasionally just throw out an “OH MY GOD, RONNIE” completely out of context just because of this stupid song, likewise with us saying “his fuckin beard’s weird” when someone’s being rude to us lmao I have such good memories of both songs
The best thing MGK ever did was give us the Rap Devil beat, because it became "Diss MGK season" and the spread of time before Killshot dropped, every Stan and a half used that same beat to diss MGK _on behalf_ of Em. It was equal parts corny and pretty funny to see go down. And now you've got to listen to the Nick Cannon Trilogy of disses.
Derapy I love your videos and your insights on all rap music, especially rap beefs. Please please do a video breaking down Eminem’s song Tobey. I believe he kinda is touching on the whole big 3 ordeal , however , I could be mistaken but regardless it’s a dope song and SO UNDERRATED 🔥💯🔥💯
There’s no way Eminem knew who MGK was in 2012 when he said that weird shit. Lace up doesn’t even hold up when you listen to it today. Eminem’s first album is a classic.
Everyone acts like the real bomb that Eminem dropped on "Not Alike" feat. Royce da 5'9 off his Kamikaze project doesn't exist.... He murdered MGK on it and anyone who disagrees can argue with they momma! 😂 And yes he brought up Drake and Cole doing the spiderman meme in the video to Tobey on Death of Slim Shady.
I’ve given up on trying to have legitimate debates about “not alike” with MGK fans (I’m actually an mgk fan) because there is no objectivity allowed by them. I understand why em dropped killshot but imho it wasn’t necessary. Any honest fan of hip hop understands that “not alike” was the killshot.
I feel you on the over-praising of Eminem. I was doing the same while listening and I don't even mess with Em like that. He's just so much better at rapping and writing than MGK that it's impossible to compare the two without glazing.
The Big Three is a term I know of in the anime community. It refers to Naruto, One Piece, & Bleach. The had insane popularity and longevity, they also came out around the same time. Eminem would be the equivalent of Dragon Ball. Different level of popularity, when the genre was relatively unknown comparatively. So The Big Three came after & honestly probably wouldn't exist but if they did not sustainably without the aforementioned success of one considered to be one of, if not THE Greatest Of All Time...
I think a good number of those MGK views are people who didn't realize a beef had been started but they were Eminem fans, heard Kill Shot and went to MGK's page to peep the scene of the slaughter.
I will preface this by fully admitting that I am an Eminem glazer so my take is biased, but even the “You Stan yourself line” doesn’t quite hold up. Since 2010 with the release of Recovery, Eminem had been trying to move away from his Slim Shady alter ego, with his fans being the ones who objected. His hit single Not Afraid from Recovery was about maturing as a person and moving away from rap beefs and needless disses. His follow up album Marshall Mathers LP 2 was about revisiting his roots, apologizing to the people he hurt during the height of his fame and addiction and an attempt at putting to bed the Slim vs Marshall debate by saying what everyone knew. Slim and Marshall are one and the same and it doesn’t excuse the shit Em has said. And Revival itself (which I’m not even going to hold you, that album was straight dogshit. Like scrap this shit off the bottom of my shoe dogshit) was almost entirely devoid of Slim Shady and saw Eminem address his vulnerabilities and fears over his legacy as an artist and even taking a political stance against issues afflicting the black community such as police brutality and racial profiling. And in spite of the many issues Revival had, what was his core fans biggest issue with the album? The lack of Slim Shady and the fact that “Em’s gone soft” or “When did Marshall become such an SJW” (since this was before they moved on to the word “woke”) That was the entire reason we got the Kamikaze album in the first place since it was Eminem bitterly giving the fans what they wanted and reminding them that they had asked for it. So to sum it up, it wasn’t Em who couldn’t move on from Slim Shady, it was his fans. And just to be petty, fuck MGK for making me have to write a whole ass essay in the comments.
new viewer here, it's very refreshing seeing a creator more concerned about the quality and intent of his craft than monetizing it, first off I wanted to congratulate you on that. Secondly, as a die hard fan of hip hop and rap my take on why Em was not on the big three convo is because he was on his own level since the 90s, it's like it was unfair to have Cole, Kendrick and Drake below him however I think that's going to change soon as Kendrick is now reaching Em's level, maybe now it's going to become a big two convo.
“Give jade a kiss” (jadakiss) Hailey Jade mathers. I thought that was a smooth line. But the reason why they didn’t mention em in the big 3 is cause he’s like ascended that. He’s in a space in hip hop where there’s nothing left to prove and he’s letting the next generation lead. I think drake has a solid relationship with em cause drake performed for Hailey’s 16th birthday or sum👀 and Kendrick and em are family under Dre so it was mutual respect for him
Listening to this while working and making faces because of mjk lines and then entering eminem fan mode spitting killshot had my coworkers questioning my sanity
To say that Eminem has some influence over shade 45... is down playing that relationship the channel that it is on is in Sirius Radio is 45. Shade is a reference to Slim Shady. It is Eminem's Sirius radio station. He created it.
To answer your question, there's pretty much an unspoken Goat list for each decade for up and coming/new rappers which are/will lead the new era of that generation and that's what was Kendrick's verse on control was for. Eminem in the 2010's was already in Goat status even though in the alot of black folks would say Wayne (which he acknowledged em as the top 5 Mc in 2010 but some how Gucci was in the top 5 an em was not) probably took the 2000's especially 2006-2013 (mainstream/feature run) it's debatable on who had personal influence(Kanye 2004-2012) or impact (em and 50 1999-2010) but this beef was about 2009-2020 and head's of was Kendrick, J. Cole and Drake with a few not far behind (Tyler, Asap Rocky, Big sean, etc).
5:30 Big 3 is solely that generation. Em is always a top 5 rapper of all time though. However, on “Like That,” Kendrick said “diss Melle Mel if I have too.” That was in reference to Eminem’s beef with Melle Mel. Lol. He likely did not appreciate him coming at Em, and is willing to go at anyone. Lol.
Ye If we talk about a big 3 of the 2000 i would Say em Wayne and Kanye take those spots since the big 3 now îs considered by that 2010 margin people who got popular at that time Ye clearly one of the reasons why kendrick did said that about mel was in support to em plus melle mel was talking a lot of crap about em he also called kendrick not influential și he had every reason ți also throw some shade
The reason Em did not figure into the “Big 3” convo at ALL is that he was inducted LONG ago. Look no further than Kendrick’s “Control” verse: “I heard the barbershops be in great debates all the time/ Bout who's the best MC? Kendrick, Jigga and Nas *Eminem*, Andre 3000, the rest of y'all…don’t get involved.” Eminem has been GOATED 🐐
35:31 That's not how I interpreted it. I interpreted it as Eminem saying "You will never be as popular as Biggie, JAY, Taylor, or even Iggy. Just like Ja, Benzino, or any other motherfucker who's come after me, no one is going to remember you." The main reason why I think this is because in an interview about Killshot, Eminem said he made it to specifically point out how unknown MGK really is.
I swear Killshot had more views than it does. Eminem washed him Not Alike that alone and Rap Devil wasn't close. The crazy thing about the MGK thing is he has a daughter. Not Alike was MGKs fault for dissing him on a Tech N9ne feature
23:33 The "It's a fast road" line is actually a reused bar from him song NYLON. That's why the "when your idols become your rivals" line sounds so awkwardly sped up.
17:30 ehhhhh the whole slim shady thing is the fans. He drops revival which had maybe a single song with an alter ego like feel (framed) and people hated the album.
I still vividly remember seeing the notification on my phone after I came back home. "Killshot" it said and I shit myself. Hyperbole. I did not see it on my phone.
In this recent big three conversation I was nervous that Marshall would jump in. On some 'hey guys don't forget about me' lol, but glad he didn't. That would have been a crazy ssa battle 😳 😮😅

1.Eminem cant let shady go because nobody will
2.He doesnt actually think anyones trying to cancel him, marshall is using slim shady (the character) as a vessel to make fun of people that think hes under fire for shit he said 20 years ago
3.The Taylor Swift / Iggy Hoe line isnt about popularity, he's calling mgk a popstar
The easy interpretation is
You’re not in anyone’s list of great rappers, certainly not anywhere near the likes of biggie or Jay.
With that lens the verse changes to:
You’re not in anyone’s list of great rappers, certainly not anywhere near the likes of biggie or Jay.

Is. HARD. Hard af.

I mean....kills hot is literally just the rap devil beat in reverse.
I saw a comment somewhere else that said: “Growing up is knowing MGK actually didn’t lose this battle”
The only way mgk sorta kinda won is that he was probably poppin for a week or two for real. There ain't no way that boy won
And yes he brought up Drake and Cole doing the spiderman meme in the video to Tobey on Death of Slim Shady.
Oh hey! I remember voting for this in a poll once xD Hell yeah!! 🤘
Em remembered MGK was conflicted
The lack of Slim Shady and the fact that “Em’s gone soft” or “When did Marshall become such an SJW” (since this was before they moved on to the word “woke”)
That was the entire reason we got the Kamikaze album in the first place since it was Eminem bitterly giving the fans what they wanted and reminding them that they had asked for it.

Lol.
Ye If we talk about a big 3 of the 2000 i would Say em Wayne and Kanye take those spots since the big 3 now îs considered by that 2010 margin people who got popular at that time
Ye clearly one of the reasons why kendrick did said that about mel was in support to em plus melle mel was talking a lot of crap about em he also called kendrick not influential și he had every reason ți also throw some shade

The main reason why I think this is because in an interview about Killshot, Eminem said he made it to specifically point out how unknown MGK really is.
Yeah I think that’s what he meant
Bruh, the same people who think that Machine Gun Kelly had the better diss are the same lame ass people who thought Drake diddler won the beef.
"That's just mean." He sounded so genuine when he said that lmfao
So glad this is finally out🔥
Taylor Swift may be bigger in 2024 than Eminem, but prime Eminem was still bigger than prime Taylor Swift.
Kenny and Em seem to have too much mutual respect to fight
