He almost came out and said it plainly,
You dont need me, i am not the key to liberation. You need to practice the 3 simple things the Buddha taught as the keys - sila, Anapanasati & vipassana.
Idolizing a spiritual man isn't the way out. *Practicing* what the wise teach is.

You can do both, practice what he teaches but also understand him as Avalokitesvara is human form. People pray to him and see him as a enlightened deity in human form (which he is), and if you think this is wrong then you go against 600 years of tradition and say it is all wrong.

It’s not that rebirth doesn’t matter, this is what gives Buddhism its meaning(in a way). What his holiness is trying to say here is that The institutions of reincarnated lamas or tulkus are not important or relevant anymore, for we have a complete set of teachings of the dharma from a lot of great past masters. Please post information with more detail, to not mislead people or get a wrong misconception from the Buddhist tradition.

Reincarnation and karma is a false teaching. As you can see time is finite ( ie today..what you earn till), if you work backward u have the 1st reincarnation. Why prior in your first reincarnation with no bad karma you are not free but still reincarnated and still in the cycle of rebirth?
If you cannot escape in the first rebirth with no bad karma, what makes think you can be free after accumulating bad karma over the centuries? So you see, it is a false teaching in Hindu and Buddhism.

His point is well taken, but we should bear in mind that many people believe that the Buddha does reincarnate as other avatars of the same realization, but that realization is not necessarily expressed in the language of Buddhism. He appears in different cultures and times, and teaches using the language and circumstances of the day to express the same universal truth that transcends all cultures and ideologies. In Buddhism there is a principle called "non-attachment to views." This includes even Buddhist views. At the end of the day, it is not about preserving Buddhism at such, but about providing fresh dispensations of the same truth again and again as long as sentient beings exist.

He's right about the feudal system in Tibet. I believe in reincarnation, but I also know it was used in Tibet as a way to ensure wealth and power remained in certain institutions where monks and lamas were (officially) celibate. When the Chinese first invaded, a decade before the persecution and mass murder began, the Dalai Lama was actually interested in communism as a way to reform the corrupt, grossly unequal system of massive landholdings by a handful of families and rich institutions, while most of the population lived in medieval poverty.

Just pointing out: The building that you show in the video as "The Dalai Lama's main temple" is actually not correct. He’s a Gelugpa, so he pushes the monastic tradition and institutions. The other 3 schools of Tibetan Buddhism also value this , but there is a yogic tradition the other 3 represent that they value equally. It’s for different people. The other schools say” if you want to find the true masters , stay away from the monasteries “.

    • @AverageBuddhist88
      @AverageBuddhist88 Рік тому

This is one of the reasons I agree with Gelug school more. I believe it is closer to the original form of Buddhism, and the original scriptures. Almost every Sutra, wether it's Theravada or Mahayana, promotes monastics as very important. All early forms of Buddhism and most later forms all focus heavily on monastics, and one of the roles of lay people is to support these monastics exactly like scripture advises. I don't agree with that last saying, but I understand the point of view of the other schools.

Aee it doesn’t matter that people remember you reincarnation, I half agree with what you’re saying sir. But like you’re saying it is not the institution that matters during reincarnation, it is the message, therefore the message is the souls goal. That’s I say the Buddha will reincarnate until there is peace, that is his souls goal.

  • @userjuha

He did. One lifetime just wasn't enough to build so many people up to the full realization of a Buddha, or anyone to be precise, nor a big Sangha that would have supported Shakyamunis reincarnation in a way he would have liked to, after all he was a prince before being the Buddha of our time. Just because you cannot prove it did happen doesn't mean it didn't. Same for all masters. Do you think they are above the clouds in full bliss forever looking at us who have their feet on the ground? Most buddhist practitoners and even masters, however high their titles, are merely liberated and products of the teachings transmitted in the many lineages if Buddhism. Rare are those who make their own realization.

@dylan foley The problem with your argument is your misunderstanding of the idea behind the mindset of karma. @dylan foley Asking questions is not foolish.
Maya is not 'the material world' maya is as they say 'illusion by convention', it is the root of the word 'to measure' and the word 'matrix'. Maya is the belief that the way in which the world is described i.e by words, numbers etc is *the actual world* (which of course we both know it isn't). But that isn't to say there is no material world - obviously there is. We just mustn't cling to the illusion of how the world is perceived.
in order to be a bodhisattva you must escape reincarnation through realising karma.

Rebirth is the continuation of the absence of a soul even a universal one. Reincarnation, however is the presence of a soul which cannot evolve as what the consciousness can do. The consciousness is dynamic, devoid of a self as what Buddhists believe in the theory of no self or the Mahayana teachings of 'emptiness'. As what HHDL said, his life as the 14th is his business, he cannot speak for the 15th even the consciousness is same. If Buddhist believes in reincarnation, his Holiness would have been more explicit in his explanation of his continuation as a Bodhisattva or Buddha. China will not be granted the authority over the 15th Dalai Lama as there is no Gelugpa institution there who is qualified enough to recognise the Dalai Lama.of Tibet.

  • @64ytb

Reincarnation is not needed if one can reach enlightenment in one lifetime. It is only needed because it's very difficult to reach the final destination.
Every time we come back, if we are awakened and conscious, we will continue our spiritual journey until we complete the full course. Unless and until we reach it,
we will have to have to return back whether we like it or not. So, the more we make the effort to progress in every single incarnation, the less rebirths we will have to take.
Sad to say, this master is not as enlightened as most people think. He has never say that he is fully enlightened. He maybe a very advanced seeker, but he is not a full master, yet.

In the Bhagavad-gita, chapter 2, verse 17 states: "Know that which pervades the entire body is indestructible. No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul." The living entity is not the body. We are not seeing each other. We are only seeing the bodies. You must understand that we are not the body. The body is like a machine that we are temporarily using. This is not a belief. We are talking about the highest science here. Krishna also explains in the Bhagavad-gita how a person within one life migrates from a baby body to an adult body and then to an old body. The cells have changed in the body. You are not the brain either.
Understanding that I am not the body is the first basic understanding in spiritual life. You are the spirit soul, who is going from one body to the next. What does the mind have to do with this? In the Bhagavad-gita, chapter 15, verses 8 & 9 state: "The living entity in the material world carries his different conceptions of life from one body to another as the air carries aromas. The living entity, thus taking another gross body, obtains a certain type of ear, tongue, and nose and sense of touch, which are grouped about the mind. He thus enjoys a particular set of sense objects." If you still have desire for material sense enjoyment, then nature provides you with another set of senses. A new material body is developed from the subtle material body.
You will find innumerable living entities. They also have tongues, ears and eyes. These are spirit souls, parts and parcels of God, just as much as we are. It is by the arrangement of nature that we get a certain type of body to carry out the particular desires that a person has. Each of us is enjoying different foods according to different tastes. If our mentality in this life is shaped like that of an animal, then we will take on an animal body in the next life. If one neglects the facility for self-realization in the human form of life, then one will not receive another human of life. What we do now with our gross physical body affects our mind, our subtle material body.

It’s through the Dharma that an individual can learn how to transcend reincarnation. I guess the Dalai is saying that a preoccupation with the next one, is an attachment that is probably not conducive to Nirvana.

Sadly, the great Nalanda was destroyed by Muslims as they raided India and, of course, they slaughtered the non-violent monks there unless they would convert to Islam. The damage they did to Dharma was somehting India never got back and Buddhism died there. Taxila the great center for Buddhist learning was similarly destroyed 5-6 centuries before, this time the raiders were the Huns.
Of course, everyone knows what happened with China and Tibet - the same thing. Once again raided and invaded by outsiders who once again slaughtered the defensless monks.
I suppose, that may bode well for non-violence or not, depending on your point of view. Is being defenseless and non-violent the right thing to do, if it it leads to the destruction of Dharma, thousands of texts - something that Buddhism will never get back and who knows what was on those texts in those three invasions? People may or may not know this, but NOTHING was written about the Buddha for at least 5 centuries after he died. Only (relatively) recently did we discover the Ganhara canon which revealed things about Buddhism no one ever knew. Who knows what was lost in those invasions. It's left to society and history to decide if the Buddhist not fighting back in these 3 invasions and slaughters was the right thing to do. Should they have fought back and sacrificed their morality and ehtics to preserve it? I know the answer, but I'm putting it out there for the rest of the world.

Look man you're living in middle ages , come to current age these all are not true, Buddha was a man who gave the truth according to his perspective maybe at that time he couldn't find any more convincing truth due to limited resources so he taught reincarnation , and the basic teaching of buddha what he told that -"My followers should not accept anything just because of faith they should rather do thorough investigation and experiment"
And that is what dalai lama 14th is doing he is investigating the truth so he is completely right no such thing as reincarnation happens , there is no god, we are just born through comic fluke , and we should not do good deeds just because of fear but to make society a peaceful and better place.

    “If reincarnation is important then why didn’t Buddha reincarnate?”;
    1) How do you know that Buddha didn’t reincarnate?
    2) It is widely believed that Buddha attained spiritual enlightenment (nirvana), once a soul attains this the cycle of reincarnation is broken thus there is no need to reincarnate again.

    Something for life
He can only remember the life before him for 7️⃣7 years. It is common to everyone. 8️⃣8 is 00 which is the end. Seven years later, there is no memory of reincarnation. Although she has merit, she has to live a long life. She has to say goodbye to an accident. In that sense, she owes a debt of gratitude for her lost life. If the lost person becomes a human being, reincarnation will take place. Everyone called reincarnation will have lost their life in an accident.

Must make distinction between reincarnation and rebirth, according to buddhism we are all reborn again and again in this cycle of existence, it depends on our actions(karma, good/bad) that we'll be reborn as humans or as any form or formless being. Reincarnated beings such as His holiness the 14th dalai lama or the 17th karmapa or Mingyur rinpoche, these beings have attained a certain level of insight into the complex system of mind awareness and its constructs which can only be achieved through wisdom of compassion and particular methods,
They've vowed to be in existence till all sentient beings reach the same blissful state of buddhahood and they propound their knowledge about how to achieve such a state, so that human beings and others can know how to deal with sufferings of the mind while in existence and know how to eventually reach a state of true and complete bliss(buddhahood). I am sorry that you lost your brother, since you have a karmic connection to him, you will meet again, again and again, life after life, in any form, but you will no longer remember him or he will no longer remember you, such is our cycle of existence. Train in meditation and work for the sake of all sentient beings, unconditionally, unbiased, to lift them all out of suffering, love them as if they were your brother or mother, ultimately you may reach a stage where you will be able to recognise your brother and also recognise that all sentient beings were our mothers and fathers thousands and hundreds and millions of times, over and over in this cyclic existence, you will find no need to seek for him, for he never left, he can never leave existence, unless he practices the path to liberation or buddhahood, I may sound religious, apologies, but such is the nature of all existing phenomena. 🙏🏼 Hope I helped. Rest, just be kind and you'll be fine 👍🏼

BUT There only Compassion and wisdom which happens. Really cant imagine if we could remember all of our relatives in the past lifes. it would be comolicated and bad.
