    I’ve also seen people securing custom and removable furniture through those security points, with longer bolts. Or made a stowaway for bikes etc.

      Aww thank you very much for joining us on our mammoth conversion 😂. Good luck with your build. It feels like the biggest project ever a lot of the time but the adventures will be incredible once it’s done.

    Shaun and Lizzie, great to meet you at the show today. Sorry I took up so much of your time. I will look forward to viewing the show video. I might make my own video of my VW ‘Cantaffordia’ in time! Good luck with the new family member in May. Best wishes, Sandy.

    If you make the kitchen unit tapered smaller nearer the door and larger towards the back of the van you get a wider galley area and can still fit a 2 burner unit in along with a deep sink.

    Haha, I found the very same thing with mine. Getting up the VW floor is a right pig !
    Did you screw and glue the battens down or just glue.. I didn’t see the point in screwing down too.. didn’t fancy all the holes through the metal floor. And building on top it can’t go anywhere anyway..

    • @ABusAndBeyond
      @ABusAndBeyond  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I only glued the battens down. They can’t move anywhere anyway.

    Remember to figure in to the equation the evo kitchen units are sized to sit on an 18mm floor.

    Shaun, when do you envisage completing the Crafter? A lot of hard work to go with, hopefully, many interesting videos to watch. Hope that Lizzie and the family are well.

      Ah the million dollar question. I’m guessing it’ll take about the same amount of time as HS2 😂 all joking aside, I hope it’ll be usable as a camper within 6months. But really not sure. There will be tonnes of videos for sure 👍

    Personally I would always make sure I can use the hooks again in the floor because they are really strong in case you need to secure luggage or something else. But I understand it.
    What I don’t understand is how much stuff people buy that’s just laying around in a garage… 😂
    People should learn to be selective in hobbies and stuff. It gives you less stress!

    Thanks for this video we are planning the same how did you fix the Barton’s to the floor? Screws or adhesive, if so which type.

      I used Sikaflex 221 adhesive. Seems to work well 👍 Thank you very much for watching

    Just asking Shaun could you of just layed insulation on original wood floor then put ply over or take up original ply floor use as template cut moor ply relayed original ply then insulation then ply save using battens
    Great video guys

    • @ABusAndBeyond
      @ABusAndBeyond  2 роки тому

      Yeah I’m sure that could be done as well. The battens were really easy to put down though. Probably quicker than making a template in more ply. But yeah either option is doable

      Another roof vent then the Lino floor probably! Plus RIB bed/seat. Always got to be thinking about 7 steps ahead, it’s exhausting!

    Hi, I've got the exact same van as you guys just the LWB version instead of maxi. Just begun the rip out! I managed to get the floor up which I agree was slightly hard work. How did you manage to remove that strip of putty like adhesive running down the middle ? Great channel guys!

    • @ABusAndBeyond
      @ABusAndBeyond  Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much for watching. In the end I left the putty. I just couldn’t get it removed. I tried heating it up and that made it worse. The scraper I was using didn’t work so I just flattened it as much as possible and covered it up.

    • @ryanspeak6632
      @ryanspeak6632 Рік тому

      I also tried heating it up and oh boy yes that does make it worse. I also tried cooling it with ice to see if it would chip off which worked a little but too time consuming. Today I just went at it with a flexible scrapper bit for the multitool and it literally came off in seconds! 🤣

    If you had unbolted both ends of the slat and the one next to it, moved one side forwards and the other side back toward the rear of the van, I bet you would have got it out.

    • @ABusAndBeyond
      @ABusAndBeyond  2 роки тому

      Don’t plan to. If we plan to be in very cold conditions we will leave the tap open with a bowl underneath. If this is still an issue we will be able to insulate it at a later date

  • @daviddring8692

    Don't understand why you & so many others put battens down. Just glue pir board to floor. You have approx 14 battens (metal)
    You then have perfectly flat surface to lay ply on. Glue all joints as well.

    • @ABusAndBeyond
      @ABusAndBeyond  Рік тому

      I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. The PIR board is on the floor. It can’t really take the weight of the ply floor so the battens are there to support the ply floor

    • @daviddring8692
      @daviddring8692 Рік тому

      Don't put any battens down. You glue the whole sheet of pir board down directly onto metal floor. Just apply adhesive onto the high pieces of floor. It will then be perfectly flat to lay ply on that. Applying adhesive again. The spray adhesive I used for that. I also glued all joints. Pir board & ply. Then sanded the ply joint for if I laid vynil flooring.

    • @daviddring8692
      @daviddring8692 Рік тому

      It can easily support the weight of the floor.. It will support it better. As I noticed the battens weren't exactly same level with pir board. Remember you've got approx 14 metal raised areas to glue to across van. Every 3" approx.

  • @the.endroom
    @the.endroom 2 роки тому +3

    I have to mention guys, I'm 99.9% sure that you are not allowed any material whatsoever between the RIB seat and the metal floor of the van. You will have to remove the floor insulation and battens wherever the bed frame fixes to the van. You will not be insured to carry passengers in transit otherwise. Best to find out now.

      I thought the same (coming autmotive background) but everyone ive talked to says the pull test covers being mounted on top of ply. Im dubious,lol.

      Surely as long as it’s bolted to the chassis it will be ok, and as he said that’s what he’s doing won’t that be ok?

      I have to say the same about customer service; kept moving the build date back, didn't communicate and couldn't give me a definite date so ended up cancelling my order. The refund did get processed quickly and without issue though.
