  • When I unboxed this Sherco 300, I didn't think I would be making a review on the bike six years later. Though I would love a newer dirt bike, this two stroke is still going strong and worthy of discussion. ⚡🛑 Utility Can Caddy 🛑⚡shop.seattime....
    The mantra of this review is the more maintenance you do on your dirt bike, the longer it will last. As you'll come to find out, I was a poor mechanic, and it came back to bite me, and the bike, at some of the worst times.
    The stand out of any Sherco I have ridden is the handling. They turn amazing well, without the need of hacks, or dropping the fork tubes in the triple clamps. The second most appealing component is the low end torque this engine has always produced. It will grunt it's way through any obstacle; no rekluse ever need be considered.
    Back in 2018, there weren't a lot of after-market parts being produced. Now that Sherco has grown in the american dirt bike market, oem and aftermarket parts are much easier to come by. OEM parts do seem to be a bit more expensive, but I'm guessing that's due to demand. You can order a lot more Sherco parts on sites like Rocky Mountain ATV, but still not all the small oem parts. Having Sherco parts being included in a microfiche parts order site would make getting parts smoother. There aren't nearly as many dealers as there are for others brands, so you're chances of driving to a local Sherco dealer are slim.
    The biggest issue I had was the non-waterproof switches. On this bike, there was a power switch that would loose contact, causing the bike to stop running. That switch is no longer included on these bikes. The light switch though still uses a non-waterproof switch. These are offroad dirt bikes, they need to be supplied with robust hardware for the elements.
    I am certainly not the fastest A racer, but I'm also not the slowest. Is the older bike holding me back? Maybe a little. But more seat time and more dedicated training would increase speed and fitness more than a newer bike would.
    I'm impressed with how well the Sherco has held up considering the conditions it went through with me as the rider, racer, and mechanic. I do believe every rider would enjoy throwing their leg over a Sherco. If you can't find a local dealer, make some calls and see if you can get a demo day at an upcoming race or event. Regardless of the bike brand you choose, enjoying getting seat time!

    It goes without saying, but always carry as many spares as you can, Especially if you're driving many hours from home - The flat battery must have sucked after going that far! 😫
    We don't get to see many Sherco reviews! So I hope Sherco appreciates the long term review & endorsement - Cheers 👍🇭🇲

      Thanks for the kind words. I actually thought of how I could carry an extra battery around with me (in the van, not the bike), but then I would have to also keep it charged. I think replacing it every year, or 'X' amount of hours of use is probably a good idea.

    Interesting video, I'm up at around 300-350 hours on my 2017 EXC 250. Im very happy with the performance still and with the odd bit of maintenance its still shockingly reliable, I've also done a crazy build on it replacing almost everything except the engine, frame and wheels in the last year.
    Im traveling Europe, Africa and into Asia over the next year with the bike in the van so in that time I estimate I'll get home with around 450-500 hours on the bike.
    When I get home I plan a top and bottom end rebuild whilst I'm working and saving again. After that I'm tentitively considering shipping it to the USA and riding the TAT and baja on it. At that point it would have somewhere approaching 1000 hours and maybe I'll look into a new race bike to leave this for the trails!

      WICKED! That's some serious traveling. We have it pretty good these days with reliability. I hope we don't loose that as more manufacturing moves to other countries. We shall see.

    Next updates are the voltage regulator and maybe coil. Do it all at once to the newest system. We also did some upgrades to the clutch for Hard Enduro. Honda plates work well. We will be racing the BJEC along with the AHE. Looking forward to seeing you at the track. Oh one of my favorite "Race" bikes is the Sherco 300/250 sef, the new one suppose to be magical.

    Great vid. A good testament to maintaining a bike. We all fall behind at times. We think everything is great but, that one thing we haven't addressed will let us down. I've been out of the game until 2 years ago (took 10yrs off). I was trying to get my son to enter his first race. He somehow ripped his clutch line in practice the week before the race. I would have paid way more than it was worth to get that in. I couldn't . Maybe it was a god send. I put it back together and the dang stater went out. I wouldn't want that to be his first race experience.

    Entertaining and great info for sure, really like the Shercos myself. If you can swing it grab a 24’ 300 and ride on, can’t beat a new bike! There are still some 23’s to be had at a discount to save a little. See you out on the trail , I’m going to do some blackjack and TSCEC myself! Over 50 lol

    Recently traded up to a 14 300 XC-w from the KDX 200 Hybrid I built. If the KDX had not been so clapped out and the 300 dropping into my lap I would still be riding the hybrid. In some ways I was quicker on it.

    Great video, I sold the 300 tpi after years of riding it and got a 4T because I was going to be racing again....NOT sure i made the right decision, maybe just upgrade the 300 would have been a better decision ? At least you know what your in for !!

      I'm a protection guy first before other expenditures. Good skid plate (SXS), radiator and rotor guards (bpd), G-Rip bar ends (unless running full wraps), swing arm guard (bpd), and then any engine or cover protection you can afford after that. ENJOY! I haven't had a new bike in awhile and I'm JEALOUS!

    How is the vibration on the older Non counter balanced motors? Have you ridden a 2021+ to compare? Obviosly the new KTMs are smooth as butter and the shercos and betas are not at that level.

    • @SeatTime
      @SeatTime  10 місяців тому

      I thought this vibrates less than the 300 and 350’s I came off of, but those were later KTM at this point for sure. I know Sherco has done a lot to help with vibration, but I didn’t think much was needed. I do run the MAKO360, which I run more for all day wear and tear, more than direct vibration damping, but it does help there as well.

    Why are you telling your life story ?

    • @SeatTime
      @SeatTime  10 місяців тому +6

      Because if you ride a bike for six months, you just talk about the bike. When you ride a bike for six years, it’s part of your personal story as well. So there’s times it got a lot of hours in a year, and times it didn’t. That matters to me. If it doesn’t matter to you, that’s ok.
