  • How do you find and photograph elusive wildlife? How can you get closer to wildlife? These are two questions that I frequently ask myself, especially in regards to species like the Bobcat. Finding and photographing Bobcats is no easy task. There's no magical method to it and if it's something you'd like to do, plan on spending a lot of time in the field without seeing anything! In this weeks video, I describe how I personally go about finding and photographing this beautiful, but elusive species of cat.
    Over the years I've had the opportunity to photograph many Bobcats in many different habitats. In this video I'll show some of the different Bobcats I've seen, photographed and gotten some video footage of, I hope you enjoy!

    Fantastic footage! It took me ten years to finally get shots of a pair of bobcat’s. The wait was worth it.

    Outstanding work Jimmy, and great advice. It took me seven years of scouting and I finally had the opportunity to photograph three Bobcats in 2022.

    I enjoyed this video and the bobcat footage. I appreciate your b roll snipets too which always add to our sense of environment. I have a bobcat on my property, which is heavily wooded in New England. I have seen them several times at random but no real way other than investing in a camera trapping set up though that I can think of to photograph it. Sitting in my blind will likely be a large investment of time with no payoff and its too thick to move and track it, although winter is obviously best to try that. Once again I am jealous of your more open country out west! Keep up the good work on the videos, I know they are a lot of effort!

      Thanks so much, John! That's amazing that you have one on your property, I can only dream of stuff like that 😁 There are some pretty cool camera trap setups out there. Let me know if you get into that stuff at all, it's something I've thought about for years but haven't made the investment yet.

    Awesome video and info… I live on a ranch in Texas and have seen occasional Bobcats passing my trail cams, but have yet to see one in person. I have the same camera and lens as you and photographing one is high on my list. Thanks for the great video inspiration.

    Awesome video! I enjoyed it very much. I've had a few encounters with Bob Cats here in the Florida panhandle. My most incredible encounter was when I was on a motorboat with family on a small river and one launched itself from the riverbank into the river ahead of us. It swam across the river, got out and trotted off on the other side. It was totally unexpected and not something I was looking for, but I managed to get a good enough picture of it in the river to tell what it was.

      That's an area I've always wanted to explore for them, I hear there's a good amount of them there. Wow, that's sounds like quite the experience, must have been quite the sight to see!

    The very first time I went hunting I was sitting under a tree, and I hear this crunching noise in the underbrush. What emerged from under the branches was a small bobcat.
    I didn’t move, I didn’t say anything I just stared at him. He finally noticed me and looked quite surprised and took off in the other direction.
    I didn’t get anything that day but that was still one of the best days of hunting I’ve ever had. Quite the beginner’s luck

    Beautiful footage and images of a stunning cat. Of the stills at the end of the video, I particularly liked the first image where the cat is pretty small in the frame. Of the closer images my favourite would be the shot with the ground squirrel / gopher (not sure of my ID there). I'd be delighted with any of the images to be honest.
    Best wishes.

    Amazing. I got the chance to see one and photograph one by being at the right place at the right time (pure luck) and it was an amazing experience. Do you think that maybe they were not that shy with your presence (I assume they knew you where there) because they were hunting?

    • @JimmyBreitenstein
      @JimmyBreitenstein  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks! That's usually how it works with these guys, right place, right time! I've found that some cats are just more tolerant than others. Most of the Bobcats I see are long gone before I'm remotely close, but others (those in the video) are more tolerant if you respect their space, approach very carefully and don't make noise. I've found it also helps a TON if you can find them in areas where trapping is rare or isn't allowed at all.
