The Sun No Longer Rises is probably my favourite Immortal track of all time, Immortal's biggest strength is their ability to create a landscape to their music through lyrics and song titles, and I come from the North of Norway where the sun no longer rises every single year, so it's kind of relatable in a way too :D
This album and 'Battles...' really got me into black metal. 'At the Heart...' is still my favourite, though. Hearing a song from the new album really got me back on those classics, which I had kind of forgotten. Great stuff.
One of my favourite albums ever. This shit is so fucking solid, 0 filler just pure fucking chaos. Harsh listen maybe first time with how the production can be sometimes (imo) but man, once you get into it this is unstoppable. So many huge hits on there. Frozen by Icewinds, Sun No Longer Rises, Unsilent Storms.., As eternity opens - man this shit just keeps coming. This and AtHoW made me an Immortal "fan" for life. This is 2nd wave black metal at its finest! I also always liked Abbath on drums with his weird fills and symbol work here and there along with the rest of the production TBF, the guitars sound like theyre being ripped apart (to me atleast).
My joint favourite with Diabolical. They really hit their own sound with this record. One thing I note people often overlook is the Grieghallen sound it had. It was not crystal clear admittedly, plus it's not as upfront as a lot of newer recordings, but the atmosphere it had was insane. Drums were like an avalanche! I always liked the minimalistic covers like this. Darkthrone also did that well in a "here is the cover, inside are lyrics, listen to evil or die!" manner. As you say though, this was a certain era and now it's not quite enough. Still not sure what to make of them now. I lost interest around Damned in Black.
SCUMM Grieghallen sound is great! Minimalistic covers are cool, but nowadays this kind of cover would feel kinda stupid and copycat. But like you, I started to lose interest in the band later on. I don't remember exactly when but sometimes after At the Heart...
I guess the new Marduk has a somewhat minimalist layout, though not as minimal as that of Pure Holocaust. When mentioning the silly pics I remembered an interview I think Terrorizer did after At the Heart of Winter mentioning where the photos came from. There was the photo shoot for the album and they basically sent all the photos to Harve at Osmose where the good photos had ticks on them and the bad photos had crosses. Harve got drunk and sent the pictures with crosses for a laugh. With that a million memes were born. That still does not unmake their older videos mind. Nothing can make me forget the Call of the Wintermoon video.
I think the interesting thing about the Demonaz and "I" side projects is that Demonaz still wrote the lyrics for Abbath's "I" side project, and Ice Dale(Enslaved) and Armagedda(Immortal) played on both albums. To me those albums have a bit more of an 80's classic metal feel to them. Abbath sounds like Lemmy at some points. I've always hoped someday Abbath and Demonaz will reignite that friendship again. Those guys have too much history together.
At The Heart of Winter is beautiful and harsh. I think that is their best album. But then again, the new Immortal album will be Demonaz going back to Immortal's roots. Making a statement..
Probably my least favorite Immortal albums are the albums the Abbath drums on. Too much blast beats for me. I love blast beats, but I find those albums to be nothing but. I love Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism and all the other albums, but haven't given Pure Holocaust or Battles in the North much of a chance because of Abbath's drumming.
I don't know why at Heart is hated by people it is ...OMG the most guitar God Black Metal album ever, then someone tells me that At Heart is NOT Black Metal....too complicate. Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult did a GREAT Immortal cover.
I like the first few Immortal albums, but when Abbath started taking more control over the sound I became bored with it, and it seemed like Abbath was more focused on being a rock star instead of just playing black metal like Demonaz wanted too. I'm glad Abbath left and Demonaz is back in the saddle.
I never took immortal seriously everything they did mocked euronymous and his view of what black metal should be. Now thank god black metal is dead and gone and all the stupid people can claim to be into shitty trendy black metal
@@MoonlightRitual black metal died with euronymous and it sarkka black metal is totally dead even Marduk is putting out stupid nazi shit you are a poser who does not know anything

Good catch with the Imperial March. Makes me wonder what your thoughts are on Hoth's new album Astral Necromancy.
Stars Die Thanks! I haven't heard that album yet unfortunately.

Koud Vuur You'll love the new Immortal album then!
Total classic
Battles In The North is my favourite.
This is some good classic Black Metal.
Can you please do an album review of "Kätkyt" by Vermilia? She's a new black metal artist from Finland.
Kay Yes, if I get the cd.
what about Battles In The North?? __an absolute masterpiece is
angus heider I like it about as much as I like this one.

I hope you check out two things. Please listen to the song Yahweh and the album God Damn Evil by Stryper.
Felony Strutter I think I might be allergic to Stryper but I promise to try at some point 😄
Stryper is my second fave band of all time, I want you to lsten to it just because I want you to hear their talent, especially the song YAHWEH
But kuku muniu was talking about At the Heart of Winter not Pure Holocaust AFAIK.
Listen to old burzum old dark throne old Marduk mayhem with euronymous emperor with Mortiis
I listen to all of those more or less.
@@RautaMetal yeah but you also acknowledge all the clones and stupid fake bands
It is what it is.
@@RautaMetal it is not. Grow up listen to von and realize it can't get any blacker than them

Good album but it probably wouldn’t even make my top 5 in their discography.
adamagedone Interesting! What would be your top 1 of the band?
Either At The Heart Of Winter or Sons Of Northern Darkness, still haven't been able to pick one
Oh man, in that case I'm very sure you'll just love the new album!
