PG led the band through the audience during this song (nowhere near me, of course-I was in the cheap seats!) and the execution, even on the move, was flawless. Tony Levin towered over everyone. The audience loved it, and showed their love with a huge ovation, which PG graciously acknowledged and then flowed seamlessly into the next song. Stellar musicianship and showmanship on display that night, and presumably every night! Thanks, Pierre, for highlighting a great tune.
Nice one, Pierre - saw Mr Gabriel at the NEC in Birmingham a few years ago - I am not the biggest fan of large venues, but t was great to be in the same room as him. More proof here that you've cracked tutorials.
16:59 "This time without talking - just watch my hands... It's *_Percussive_* right? It's _almost_ like being a Drummer"... What a fascinating observation! I'd never really thought about it _THAT_ way, but yes! Sure, all music is (in the words of *_Big Audio Dynamite_* ) "Rhythm and Melody", but in knowing the history of PG (and that he _used to be_ a drummer) that this all fits together!
Fantastic choice! An all time favorite of mine, as well! Very much appreciated. Just got a Genos in last night and looking forward to this being the first song I learn on it!
Cool your using CP40 as in the original version. I may try to play it with sakura vst, as Peter Gabriel is a big fan of world music and this melody is definitely not like an ordinary English melody? Forgot to say thanks. A tip The first 3 notes A3# B1 B2 AND B3 C4# Happy Christmas Mr Lawrence
Hey Pierre!! What an amazing tutorial!!! 😀thank you explaining that time signature 7/4 kind of like cinema show. In addition, thank you for pointing out the pickup notes. It is so helpful how you counted the bars for us. Love those details!! 🙏
A play through would be greatly appreciated. Other tutors do it without any UA-cam strikes.Makes it hard to appreciate the changes corresponding to lyrics. However, thanks for the great content.
Pierre, you are one of the best piano teachers out there - hands down! (Piano pun intended 😂). Always enjoy your tutorials. Btw, is that a Seiko 62MAS on a leather strap I see on the wrist?! I’ve also noticed a Submariner from time to time! 😊
BRO!!!! You are AWESOME!!! You teach all the songs I want to learn!! 🤩 Would you be able to do "Heart to Heart" by Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald? 😯🙏 🙏 🙏
I have only played the intro so far but I could imagine that it's more logical and easier with 5 sharps as in another key 🤔. I will see when I learn the rest of the song 🎹. By the way it's an excellent tutorial 👍🎹🎶!
Hey Pierre! I love how you teach piano on your videos and I’ve learned several of the songs on your UA-cam channel. I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on the piano instrumental/ background piano of November Rain by Guns N’ Roses?
Hey Pierre, you haven't done anything on Piano Man yet (that I can find), but the way you play the pickup notes at the beginning of this song is similar to the easiest way I've found to play the Bflat-B-C trill that is repeated in the intro of PM. I use index-thumb- middle on those notes and find it is much easier to get speed and fluency. Anyhoo just my 2c ....
That’s fine, although thumb on a black key isn’t ideal. People will typically do that in order to work out the weaker fingers- try using 2-3-4 instead!
The guitar part that doubles this is beautiful with the chord voicings and open strings. I'm pretty sure it's played with a capo on the second fret, so the chord shapes are easier to play in A major than in B major. 😂
@@pierrejpiscitelli Amazing! Thank you, I have so much respect for you doing this while still teaching piano in real life too! And take all the time you need
Yes, but I would pay attention to what the bassist is doing. If the LH quarter notes interfere with the bass, I would omit and focus on the main RH part, perhaps using two hands to beef up the chords.
It seems peter Gabriel likes to complicate things like Tony banks. They share that characteristic. He has great songs , my favourite being “ big time “ nice pop tune, catchy. I thank him for being the one who convinced Tony banks to hire Phil Collins as the new drummer. It was peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford from what I read.. i apologize if my comments were too lengthy.

Your tutorials are great!
You can hear the genesis influence in this song. Chord structure and time signatures is so genesis. Reminds me of turn it on again
Absolutely!
The first tutorial for this song that actually explains the time signature properly. Thanks you so much 🙏

Another great insight and learning. Thank you.
I love this song!!!❤
One of my favourite songs, fantastic breakdown!
New subscriber. Trust pierre to give our thirsty ears another gr8 song to learn. Thanks so much for sharing. Awesome job.

Wow, lucky you. So much to learn on the Genos , I imagine.
very good tutorial! Thanks 4 sharing.
Excellent thoughtful presentation. Thank You!!
great - thanks Pierre 🎹💖
Awesome breakdown - got it within an hour!
Fantastic!!
I play it a bit differently! But this is so much better!

Thanks Pierre, I've found that with the 6 chord intro, arpeggio on 2, 4 & 6 sounds good and then on 1, 3 & 5 next time round 👍
At the peak of my life as a Peter Gabriel fan, I climbed Solsbury Hill near Bath. True story.
Wow!!
I can see you're a fan of PG... That (along with your other videos) is worth a sub! 👍✌
Pedal points galore! (More cowbell!!)
Thanks for this, I've tried to learn it on guitar and the fingerpicking is just too challenging. Now I can play it on piano

Thanks very much! I'm wearing a Seiko turtle, but sometimes I wear an SKX, Seamaster, or Explorer. I don't have a Submariner (yet!)

Great video. Your teaching style is great. Any chance of any Meatloaf?
In B? Will be transposing for sure. I don't do 5 sharps 😅
Thanks for the tutorial.

You are correct!
Can you please do a video on the Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is piano solo?
I’d love to do that- depends on how much time I have!
@@pierrejpiscitelli Amazing! Thank you, I have so much respect for you doing this while still teaching piano in real life too! And take all the time you need
Hey Pierre, excellent tutorial. Many many thanks. Also, what piano vst are you using? Sounds amazing.
Thanks! Garritan Yamaha CFX. I love it!
Cool, cheers for answering, I will look into getting that coz it pleases my ears 😊. Looking forward to your future tutorials. Many Thanks, Paul.
@pierrepiscitelli are you planning on making the sheet music for this available? Thanks
Very very cool, thanks
So Pierre, is this the part you would play in a band or is this a sing-a-long type version of the song.
Yes, but I would pay attention to what the bassist is doing. If the LH quarter notes interfere with the bass, I would omit and focus on the main RH part, perhaps using two hands to beef up the chords.
Which Watch are you wearing?
Seiko Turtle.

What an important and highly consequential move. Can’t imagine not having had Phil in Genesis.
Same here!!
LOL - I forgot about the "cabbage" Vidor. One of the strangest.
Am I imagining it, or have you changed how you pronounce the first syllable of your surname from “pisk” to “pish”?
haha! In Italian, "PISC" should be "PISH" but, I always Americanized it to "PISK." Really depends on my mood, you are not imagining it.
You answered my question, so you are Italian!! 👍
Are you also French Canadian?
