    PG led the band through the audience during this song (nowhere near me, of course-I was in the cheap seats!) and the execution, even on the move, was flawless. Tony Levin towered over everyone. The audience loved it, and showed their love with a huge ovation, which PG graciously acknowledged and then flowed seamlessly into the next song. Stellar musicianship and showmanship on display that night, and presumably every night! Thanks, Pierre, for highlighting a great tune.

    You can hear the genesis influence in this song. Chord structure and time signatures is so genesis. Reminds me of turn it on again

    Nice one, Pierre - saw Mr Gabriel at the NEC in Birmingham a few years ago - I am not the biggest fan of large venues, but t was great to be in the same room as him.
    More proof here that you've cracked tutorials.

    16:59 "This time without talking - just watch my hands... It's *_Percussive_* right? It's _almost_ like being a Drummer"...
    What a fascinating observation! I'd never really thought about it _THAT_ way, but yes!
    Sure, all music is (in the words of *_Big Audio Dynamite_* ) "Rhythm and Melody", but in knowing the history of PG (and that he _used to be_ a drummer) that this all fits together!

    Cool your using CP40 as in the original version. I may try to play it with sakura vst, as Peter Gabriel is a big fan of world music and this melody is definitely not like an ordinary English melody?
    Forgot to say thanks.

    Thanks Pierre, I've found that with the 6 chord intro, arpeggio on 2, 4 & 6 sounds good and then on 1, 3 & 5 next time round 👍

      I have only played the intro so far but I could imagine that it's more logical and easier with 5 sharps as in another key 🤔. I will see when I learn the rest of the song 🎹. By the way it's an excellent tutorial 👍🎹🎶!

    Hey Pierre, you haven't done anything on Piano Man yet (that I can find), but the way you play the pickup notes at the beginning of this song is similar to the easiest way I've found to play the Bflat-B-C trill that is repeated in the intro of PM. I use index-thumb- middle on those notes and find it is much easier to get speed and fluency. Anyhoo just my 2c ....

    • @pierrejpiscitelli
      @pierrejpiscitelli  Місяць тому

      That’s fine, although thumb on a black key isn’t ideal. People will typically do that in order to work out the weaker fingers- try using 2-3-4 instead!

  • @mattmckeon1688

    The guitar part that doubles this is beautiful with the chord voicings and open strings. I'm pretty sure it's played with a capo on the second fret, so the chord shapes are easier to play in A major than in B major. 😂

    So Pierre, is this the part you would play in a band or is this a sing-a-long type version of the song.

    • @pierrejpiscitelli
      @pierrejpiscitelli  4 місяці тому

      Yes, but I would pay attention to what the bassist is doing. If the LH quarter notes interfere with the bass, I would omit and focus on the main RH part, perhaps using two hands to beef up the chords.

    It seems peter Gabriel likes to complicate things like Tony banks. They share that characteristic. He has great songs , my favourite being “ big time “ nice pop tune, catchy. I thank him for being the one who convinced Tony banks to hire Phil Collins as the new drummer. It was peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford from what I read.. i apologize if my comments were too lengthy.
