Steely Dan my favourite band ever ...but sincerely very difficult to play , incredible chords and very fine music...I try to learn.....thank you Pierre !!!! 🇮🇹
This is my all time favorite Steely Dan song! Thanks so much for this tutorial. If I can learn this at 70 my life will be complete! (just ask my wife and grown children).
Hi pierre...thank you for all of your help over the last couple of years you have been an absolute gentleman,I wish you and your family a happy new year ❤
Just came upon your channel. I’m a guitar player, but have always had a piano or synth/keyboard around. Thanks for looking out for someone like me who barely reads music, but has a decent ear and knows my way around a keyboard enough for your lesson style to be very helpful. I love Steely Dan. I will have to take a swing at this…👍
Hi Pierre I just checked my timeline and up popped this video! Happy Holidays to you and yours and thank you for all your help via your tutorials in 2024. May your channel continue to thrive in 2025 and beyond.
So funny I literally just learned Josie yesterday and went to try and learn Deacon Blues and was like oh hell no I’ll do this tomorrow. And “tomorrow”, you released your video! Wooo time to learn
Great tutorial, Pierre! Funny, but then not so, as the 1978 copyright sheet music book I have notes this in Ab/Fm and some of the relative chord progression is different than your tutorial. No worries, I’ll write notes and deal with my key confusion later. I think much of the sheet music book is 1/2 step higher than recorded. 🤷♂️
Hi Pierre. First Africa, Then Rosanna, and now you got me playing Steely Dan . I'm worried that despite my lack of talent, I might just become competent at this piano stuff. If that happens, It'll be your fault. Thanks.
What is that software you use for the visualisation of the keys and the notation? Many thanks for your tutorials - the are easy to understand and yet challenging, its the right balance!
Not playing the redundant octave G in the verse and calling out why makes us lefty "Octave Grabbers" feel seen lol!! Leave space!?!?! The phased rhodes is the star!!! ;-)
The way I play it on guitar/bass is bar V is in 3/4 (EbM7), and bar VI is in 6/4 (E7#9), then back to 4/4 for the verse. Is it a different count on keys for that part?
Shouldn’t you be dressed in some type of elitist maritime outfit in teaching this tune? And I’m having trouble hearing the similarities between this and Kenny Loggins? They told me it’s the same genre. I’m so confused now.

Not for the faint of heart! I play a lot of Steely Dan. Excellent tutorial Pierre 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Love that your teaching how keys are played with band aka like recording instead of piano solo. Most want to play close to recording.

Totally fine, the math adds up to 9 beats in either case. Musically, the result will be the same!
New Year to do item, for sure!

Something tells me we've been lied to....
