AquaDam Protects Homes from Floodwater | The Henry Ford's Innovation Nation

- Adam Yamaguchi speaks with the inventor of AquaDam, a water-filled barrier that can control and divert floodwater. It consists of two flexible watertight inner tubes, side by side, contained within a woven outer sleeve. The inner tubes are filled with water, giving form to the AquaDam, and creating a temporary, highly-effective water barrier.
This highly effective water-filled barrier will not only save you time and money, but will reduce your impact on the environment as well. The AquaDam was designed to conform to all the requirements of the Clean Water Act. By eliminating the use of dirt/earth fill material, the potential for earth fill discharges into the waterway is dramatically reduced, if not eliminated. - Розваги
A guy who bought one of those for his house said 8300$. To calculate if it is worth the investment, you can source flood maps for your region, where the chances of certain floodhights are detailed. Or ask someone who lived there long enough to remember the last big floods. Or ask police station or firefighters. Off course the more expensive your house is, the more reasonable the investment.
you should probably consider all of this before buying a house, it's baffling to me when american houses are being destroyed by tornados and floods, and they make surprised picachu faces. Why the fuck did you build your house ova der.
To be fair, in Houston there had never been flooding like Harvey before, ontop of local officials opening the dams to add more to the misery
@@SpaceMarine113 the guy who bought this said he lived at the house for over 23 years and never used sandbags. Following the news about the record breaking floods he quickly researched and bought the aquadam. 23 years!!
How great would it be for the city you live in to purchase this and use to prevent millions in property damage.
@@Movie2Documentary you didn't say how large this property is though , for the guy that bought the Aqua Dam .
Great idea, but extremely costly. However, a homeowner who invests in this technology should pay less in flooding insurance premiums and on top of that get a nice check from the insurance company for saving his/her own house from water damage.
A very informative video indeed.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Safety being # 1 Priorty ,
Awesome.
now make a version that can be buried in the yard with pumps that start sucking down water around the house automatically filling the the tubes making them pop out of the dirt
The aquadam can show cracks after time has passed. If the rubber cracks, then your whole fantasy project has been for nothing. And we re not even talking about the sewer water you re gonna damage your pumps and the inside of the aquadam. So that would be a terrible idea that ll cost you a bunch of money.
2021 we need more everywere
Those old semi tubes were the best!
Thinking about moving to Florida and this made me feel a lot better
How about now after Ian. It's been a week and some places are still rising. I'm still cleaning up
There is nothing that can make someone feel better about moving to Florida.
@@micahgoingback1771 I just moved back into my house from the FEMA trailer and I am still cleaning up after Ian!
...and this is almost 2 years later!
here's the thing though, if this does catch on and see more widespread usage, how do they protect it from vandalism? Because you can be sure some random hooha will go running around poking holes into that thing.
At 2.03 shows a picture of the spainish arch in galway city it always floods
But here in the Philippines it's useless coz the water level here when it storms is usually above the roofs.
So when the flooding is over, you just flood your house from all the water from the AquaDam? lol
Brilliant concept for protecting homes from flooding! Could it function as a highly efficient fire suppressant for large-scale fires?
Fuck no get a sprinkler system
then why don't local govt put aqua dam around banks of the river?
Good old Abbeville. Spent my childhood summers there. I hear it's a dangerous town now.
Very dangerous
@@tokill2001 I'm kin to the Shelvins. Man I miss that good food!
Ghettotards ruined it
How are you going to fill it up with water if you don't have access to a Fire Hydrant? In some areas, floods happen in a matter of a few hours.
Everyone Laughed at Noah for building an Ark....
That's a big ass water bill.
I'd love to know how long it takes to fill with a garden hose when you have no fire hydrant with that much pressure... and what happens when the power goes out and you have to pump your well water by hand? LOL is there a trick to plan for that contingency? I'd hate to get one of these and have the power go out before it's full!!
Not only that ... massive water bill ... plus there's Aqua dams are not cheap fungi in another thread here said his friend bought one for $ 8,300 but we don't know how big is property is ... I wouldn't be surprised if it's a relatively small house .
If you're protecting your property from flooding, free water is somewhere near
Pretty cool, how much did it cost the homeowner to fill up that baffle for the demo? :) My question would be in a flood situation you may not be able to draw that much water from a hydrant. So I will assume you can pull water using a sump pump to fill up the barrier from the actual flood water itself? Time is the enemy here.
Time, and making sure you have an on-site generator in case you lose power.
Why don't the use the flood water to fill the dam? I mean it's a lot clean drinkig water to waste, but the idead is real great.
Abbeville is where they filmed The Blob right?
Smart invention
Where do you get the water to fill the AquaDam?
At some point if they are worried, they need to assess the situation, did they make the bed? Sometimes it is a simple beer hidden under a mattress. It is important to communicate and notice things. When I notice, I say "FAMILY MEETING TIME," thats a good indicator for how mean the surprises are. At some point someone is going to lie and say I did not go on vacation. You will know your are looking at the kind of enemy that would let bad things go on papers places. I am trying to prepare you, I am getting ready to start packing.
It’s a great idea
All that water needs to be reclaimed and sold to rich western states like Ca.

Say to yourself rolling capers bumping papers in the bag. The enemy has no conscience. Proceed
but the #1 most important question is....how HIGH are these dams, like how tall? a foot? 6 inches? 3 feet tall? etc -- this would only be good if you knew ahead of time exactly how high the water levels were going to get at your house, right? imagine spending tens of thousands of dollars to surround your house with these, only to see the flood waters get so high that they go right OVER the top of the AquaDam! that would really suck
@2:51 = okay never mind, the video answered my burning question *lol -- 3 feet tall models can hold back 2 feet of water (and they make 6-foot tall barriers too? but probably way more expensive)
@@DJMichaelAngelo Also, consider that when the water hits the dam, it will keep flowing down and around it... so it won't accumulate like it would it the dam wasn't there. So, it could potentially protect a house even if the rest of the area is flooded higher than the barrier is.
How much would that be in water cost
Does it really work? No flood inside the house?!!
very cool concept...but it seems like such a waste of water to fill the inner tubes to prevent more water...and then once the flood recedes, where do you dispose of the water you used to fill your dam? Do you put it back in the city's reservoir or do you make your own?
This sounds good... but if something was swept down river in the flood... like sharp wood with nails or pieces of cars, signs etc... This wouldn't get shredded or pop?
Try a whole entire car, a boat, even 18 wheelers can get ger dragged by water, 4 5 foot wide trees
Will it hold back 15-20ft of water? To use along a bank to protect a town from a flooding river
A wetland would
great idea until some envious jerk comes along a pops yours because they dont have one
thats what the second amendment is for
Yup
Pure Quality Ice You all are so quick to want to kill.
Keep a lot of duct tape handy
@@TheLillianYoung some people need can't just live in a civil society aint anyone else's fault but their own.
Since no on saying it..... What happens when the flood waters are 2 3 4 5 feets tall?......
They make bigger dams
🤘🤘😎😎
I had the same idea but everyone was laughing at me!!
( the background music makes me think it's a musical concert that got ruined by some documentary about flooding!!!)
Liste des sociétés spécialisées 1- AquaDam ;
But...... you need a fire hydrant!
Note to self, don't build house in a 'lake.'
Wouldn't the underground watercome
Ahahhaha... Yeah no mention of that
obviously not perfect, and some water would obviously seep under neither, but if you have a river rising a few feet, you would theoretically hold back 99% and pumps in your house should be able to handle the bit that gets by.
Spend 10k > lose your house
That looks like anaconda
Naw, that is why we have home insurance for. No need for this
I was in heavy civil construction for 40 years, used these things twice, their expensive, hard to work with and the water just rolls them around, useless device.
True story bro
Wasn't Henry Ford a really racist person?
that just kills the beauty of the landscape, its super ugly.
