Just realized something: I say Thalia is good against haste creatures (she is), and then use Fleetwheel Cruiser as an example. Fleetwheel cruiser actually isn't affected by Thalia; it's an artifact when Thalia checks it, and it becomes a creature after its ETB trigger resolves. Sorry for the goof

I also fell in love with Gonti as soon as he was spoiled, and after playing him in mono black draft it solidified my love even further. The 2/3 body for 4 seems meh until you realize it also has deathtouch, and that he need not be on the field to cast his stolen card, so he is an excellent blocker. Also, what do you think about black Gearhulk in this deck? It seems on theme by taxing them for playing big creatures, and can end the game pretty quickly after that if left alive. Is it just too many 6 drops?
I'm glad that when I wake up at 1 some-odd clock in the morning you've given me something to think about so that I can't get back to sleep properly. I'm now working on an Esper version of this idea instead of being a healthy responsible human being. Thanks, Dev.
Hey Dev. What about a UG Midrange? It sounds weird, but I think it kills control which is at the top of Kaladesh Standard. And can last against Aggro. I was thinking with a small energy subtheme. But basically, blossoming defense, sylvan advocate, void grafter, empyreal voyager, bristling hydra, verdurous gearhulk to top the curve. Lumbering falls is hexproof. Also throwing around turn aside and kiora plus larger than life. Its basically, drop awesome creatures and protect them. Even make them bigger. With Scatters, Negates, Clip Wings, and root outs in sideboard...What do you think?

this is a really good deck, it's similar to my updated version of your b/w ally deck you.I added authority of the consuls and some amonkhet cards that fit my scheme of life gain/drain.
I'm not too sure on gitrog, like, is it really good ? Seems kinda weird, also big creatures with deathtouch are..."overkill", I'd rather see trample on him, or he'll be chumped for years.
Dewayn, consider Gitrog's potential. Gitrog has humorous synergy with Zendikar Resurgent, and also ties well with that artifact from Kaladesh (can't remember the name) that allows players to play extra lands and draw cards on an empty hand. Combine those with Kalitas, Diabolic Tutor and Seasons Past to create the Seasons Past engine and you have a very dynamic deck... and that is just a quick thought of mine, I am sure Dev could make something pretty nasty using Gitrog...

Shy Guy Gamer you cast jace ok. flip the top card. oh look it's ob nixilius which you can play because it equal to the converted mana cost of jace. you can play the motherfucking card the same goes for awaken cards to. voiding the need to pay the additional 3-5 mana cost!

I have been tweaking mine for a few weeks now, but i just can't get to a point, where i am happy with what I've brewed.. Also, another thing i'm wondering is, if the way to go is with humans, or more along the lines of Sylvan Advocate, Spell Queller, Selfless Spirit and so on.

Hey there Dev just wanted to say I played this tonight at FNM and didn't do too bad I went 2-2-1 and the two loses were both to mardu vehicles and both because I kept a sketchy hand on game three. I did make minor adjustments to the list based on my lgs meta and my collection but I'd say it was about 80% the same as this list. Thanks for the awesome list I will be trying it out again next week.

Im a huge fan of your work and i have a little question: tonight i juste play death & taxes vs captain's log decks (awesome decks by the way ;)-) ) and in the middle of the game, i try to play linvala (D&T) with 1 creature on the board for myself, with my opponent who had 2 creatures on his board. Having more Life than him i didnt gain the 5 Life ETB effect, but when i try to resolve the second ETB effect, he didnt accept the fact that i've the right to put my token angel, saying that we have the same number of créatures at that moment. Could you tell me who have the right interpretation ? Thx in advance for the Answer !!

Hey Dev or SBM community, I am running this deck at my local fnm and loving it, but I am having a very hard time beating the Aetherworks Marvel decks. It seems like I just can not stop them from getting an Emrakul or Ulamog out. Any help? I run 3 fragmentize and 3 transgress the mind sideboard and bring them in against this deck. Am I boarding wrong?

Hi, I have been looking to get into Magic for a while, and have done lots of research, this deck looks really fun! I have a few questions, though... How long will this deck be playable in standard, is it worth getting as my 'first deck', and, how much will this cost in total?
The next rotation isn't until Quarter 4 of 2017, so all these cards will be playable until right around this time next year. This could be a decent first deck, yes. Personally, I find the best decks are the ones I have the most fun playing, so give it a test, maybe even proxy it before you buy into it. And looking at the cards, I imagine this is pretty cheap to make. There's a few cards worth 2-3 dollars each but otherwise it's pretty cheap.
uX8r consider trying magic 2015 which will teach you and make you deck build to beat the next ai enemy and once you're more into magic try mtgo or mtg forge which give you access to all cards to build decks from super suggest this if you have no irl friends playing magic or don't have expendable income
Honestly, when I heard you mention it in the last video, I had a lot of fun building death and taxes, but what I did was just heavily alter the humans build, go esper and run reflector mage, painful truths, authority of the consuls, and ceremonious rejection side so I don't get #rekt by aetherworks marvel. Lieutenant and Selfless Spirit are fantastic. But I missed Kambal entirely! Fantastic card. I was also running instone.dec. White cards are also so good at removing things. Sick tech dev :)

Well, my favorite 3 color combination is naya, but since you just put up your naya control deck list, how about abzan? (Can you tell I don't really like blue?)
I have tried MTG before but never really got into it cause it's was hard at my shop cause the only people who played were the gritty kind of players who tore you to shreds and never really helped newer players. That being said this deck might make me want to play again. My question is though how soon would this deck rotate out some of its bigger pieces. If I want to invest I don't want to invest in something that is gonna rotate quickly.
I have been trying hard to make a Sultai deck, but no luck yet :c The strongest is probably Sultai Emerge, but it is not as good as Grixis I think, and it is also missing RAMP.
I've been working on a similar build but Esper. Adding in Glimmer for card advantage, Essence Flux and Displace for blinking and some counterspells. Also for a 3 color deck i'd suggest Sultai. Its not my favorite but l have a particularly "spooky" Sulti build. But if that's not what you choose please no Mardu, Grixis or Jeskai, I just think there what's running around the most in standard at the moment.

Azorius Tempo/Aggro is really good right now but I wonder if we can make Esper work? I found with Esper that if you don't have double black for grasp by turn two on the play or draw, it just gets worse from there and you get ran over by Boros Vehicles. My Esper list before I switched back to the more tempo based Azorius build: 3 Liliana, The Last Hope 4 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar 3 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet 3 Torrential Gearhulk 4 Grasp of Darkness 2 Murder 3 Immolating Glare 2 Stasis Snare 3 Glimmer of Genius 2 Transgress the Mind 3 Void Shatter 2 Negate 4 Shambling Vent 4 Sunken Hollow 4 Prairie Stream 4 Concealed Courtyard 4 Swamp 4 Island 2 Plains This deck has all the pieces I want to play in standard for the next year but it's frustrating losing to aggro at your local meta week after week. Azorius has all the tools to combat most match-ups fairly well and has performed better thus far. I'll be playing it moving forward for the foreseeable future.
I guess you have to justify running blue over strict G/B Delirium decks, and otherwise have to justify green in blue/black controlling decks. Kind of hard to do, for me, but maybe he's up to the task.

I got wrecked but I think it's cause I live in Tucson, AZ and a lot a crazy good Magic players with a lot of cash to burn go to my local shop for FNM. I'm hoping to give this deck a few upgrades over the next few weeks and I'll let you know how it does. Also just cause I got wrecked doesn't mean I didn't have fun. Jund! Selfish reasons though. I've been trying to make Jund work in this standard and all the pieces are there, however I can't make them fit right to be competitive. Wondering what I'm missing or if the deck is not there at the moment.
If you have one hanging around Noxious Gearhulk is a great addition to this deck too, possibly in place of Linvala or one of the Demon of Dark Schemes.

Nice deck. I would prefer Angel of Invention over Linvala. Lin's triggers are nice but they only go off under ideal conditions. I would prefer the guaranteed 4/3 Vigilance Lifelink Flyer over the 5/5 Flyer. Sure you thought of this too so wondering why you with with Lin?
TheAnanaki this deck won't use the angel's anthem ability well and she is too easy to removed with 3 toughness where as Linvala is likely to be 8 power on board and 5 life.
13eetle13omber I def see the benefits of Lin if either or both of her triggers hit or just bc of her toughness. I just wonder if the triggers hit more than not.

I've been telling people since Gonti was first spoiled that he was amazing and should see Standard play. Heck he's a 2/3 DEATHTOUCHING BODY for 4 that literally steals a spell from your opponent to use against them AND messes with their next batch of draws. Soooo good.
This looks like a deck I already have haha. Mine is slightly less budget... and by slightly I mean way less budget. 4 of gideon, 4 of avacyn haha EDIT: You talk about this later! I'm surprised you didn't suggest smuggler's copter for blocking/looting! Everyone always thinks of it as an attacking thing, but it works well with thraben on blocks too, if you're trying to play a long game. Only card I haven't tried is Gonti. Do you really think it's competitive enough to run in an extremely not-budget deck over something like lili or kalitas?

I just want some help hahaha, I have 2 decks in standard, the first one is a Esper Control with a lot of planswakers and "control cards", the another one is a Gitrog Delirium Emrakul deck, is good but not too much to be a really competitive deck, has 2 lilianas, 3 gitrog 2 nissas of kaladesh 2 emrakul 1 gonti, 4 grasp, 2 ruinous path, 1 splendind reclamation... etc etc... but the important thing is, I love the Gitrog and I just wanna have a really good standard with him hahaha... I really wanna know if you can do some speciall video with Gitrog. ( I love this Death and taxes)... regreads from Mexico.
I was hoping to see a B/G/W Pseudo-Delirium. I'm trying one with displacer, mindbender, extricator with a decimator finisher. Any B/G/W would be appreciated as are all your brews.
made basically this exact deck about 2 weeks ago, except I preferred to run a full set of authority of consuls, and 3 up of consuls shield guard. to protect my adviser and thalia, I also had issues with being to low to the ground so I decided to run aerial responder toped off with sorin for his wonderful ult. ended up playing a game against a control heavy deck and ulted him when I had 154 LP (oh and lone rider works great with the life link/ healing motif)
I feel like this and R/G energy are probably the decks I would play in this standard. I absolutely LOVE Orzhov as a color combo and this fits so well with what they do! BTW you should do Jund something

This looks great. I would love to see an abzan deck maybe abzan tokens or walkers. I also wouldn't be sad if I saw a jund list. filigree familiar would be great in either fyi that card is under looked especially in three mana decks. As always great vid keep it up.
Three colors I would want is Mardu (R/B/W). Probably something control. But then you have to justify not running blue/have to figure out how to get card advantage other than painful truths/succumb to temptation cause those hurt a lot in certain matchups. If you have nothing Mardu, I suppose I would suggest Esper (W/B/U)! I recently made a no-creatures, tons of Planeswalkers, control deck that sides into a lot of anti-aggro instants and kalitas. It's been going quite well, but game 1 has been tough against aggro. However, most of my matchups are not aggro at my LGS/amongst my friends right now so I just leave it in the sideboard. I'd love to see your take on Esper control, especially cause I don't really see a reason to be in anything but Jeskai or Grixis if you're not running the black Planewalkers and/or Kalitas. I don't consider anguished unmaking a good enough reason. Gideon + Lili and grasp + fumigate (and one descend upon for the zombies!) in the same deck were pretty good reasons to me. And then blue just has all the stuff you need for card advantage right now, and Dovin Baan/Jace can be run (underrated right now imo). But the deck also costs like 350-400 dollars. So a little rough on the wallet.
Gideon would put Kambal out of the range of burn once you get an emblem up. Against burn I'd use his -4 ability right as soon as you cast him. He makes life hard for aggro too. I would say it's not a horrible swap.
Question, I'm relatively new to Magic and I was wondering how many win conditions are recommended? Obviously 1 is the minimum, but I currently have two win conditions in my deck I built and could go to 3. Is that overkill or should I do that?
Aaron Galloway depends what you mean by win condition. Any creature could technically be a win condition. I would say you want 4 or 5 main win con creatures and or spells. Depends if you playing an aggro deck in which you want 15 low cost "win cons", midrange/tempo which could have 5 or 6 main guys, or control where you have like 2 big dudes and the rest kill spells or counter etc.
Liam Mallam Currently I have an extort deck that is somewhat a pillowfort deck. My win conditions currently are extorting the person to death and I also have a pair of Divinity of Pride. I guess I should say I have 3, as I also have Westvale Abbey should worse come to worst.
yes. Gonti is a mfn boss. a beast. the boon of 3 decks I built including the B/U deck you banged out last week. ive won more games with gonti in my deck than not.

Seems like a really fun deck that I have a good bit of the cards for thanks! Show me a 3 color combination that isn't Jeskai or Mardu and I will be happy. Maybe another Naya deck could be fun. Or Abzan Servos featuring Angel of Invention, Marionette Master, and Cultivator of blades!
Esper or another Bant I feel would be great 3 color mix for another time. Still been trying to recreate your last Bant Control in this new standard just havent found the right Dev mix.
Yo this deck is off the hook!! I do have a couple of suggestions.you should add a accursed witch to the deck. You can swing with it forcing your opponent to kill it or if they board wipe you then that accursed witch will enchant them. If you have the witch and the consul on the battlefield. They will have to target one or the other or if the witch enchants them they are gonna have to use their fragmitise to get rid of it and if you have the console on the battlefield they will lose life
I vote G/W! Though I'd be interested to see your take on Pure Black Vehicles. Night Market Lookout Would be great with Smugglers Copter. Ovalchase Daredevil, Dhund Operative, Fortuitous Find, Subtle Strike etc etc. There could be potential there.

Definitely up to see a sultai midrange list, have been rocking a list for a while that's done pretty decent but would love to see your take on the archetype
Hey Dev or SBM community, I am running this deck at my local fnm and loving it, but I am having a very hard time beating the Aetherworks Marvel decks. It seems like I just can not stop them from getting an Emrakul or Ulamog out. Any help? I run 3 fragmentize and 3 transgress the mind sideboard and bring them in against this deck. Am I boarding wrong?

Hey Dev, put this deck together with a few proxies until I trade or pick up the missing cards. Added in Sorin. Loved playing it tonight with some friends! Played a few 1v1 and a 1v1v1 match - so much fun, definitely my new favourite deck!! I dropped the Inspectors for 2xSorin and 1 more plains.

Yes Dev!! I am team Gonti :-D Such an amazing card, I've played Gonti in numerous decks and have enjoyed the effect. I've hit a couple of useless cards here and there, but deathtouch is cool as the plan B.
Hi, I have been looking to get into Magic for a while, and have done lots of research, this deck looks really fun!
I have a few questions, though...
How long will this deck be playable in standard,
is it worth getting as my 'first deck',
and, how much will this cost in total?
The next rotation isn't until Quarter 4 of 2017, so all these cards will be playable until right around this time next year.
This could be a decent first deck, yes. Personally, I find the best decks are the ones I have the most fun playing, so give it a test, maybe even proxy it before you buy into it.
And looking at the cards, I imagine this is pretty cheap to make. There's a few cards worth 2-3 dollars each but otherwise it's pretty cheap.

uX8r consider trying magic 2015 which will teach you and make you deck build to beat the next ai enemy
and once you're more into magic try mtgo or mtg forge which give you access to all cards to build decks from
super suggest this if you have no irl friends playing magic or don't have expendable income
Honestly, when I heard you mention it in the last video, I had a lot of fun building death and taxes, but what I did was just heavily alter the humans build, go esper and run reflector mage, painful truths, authority of the consuls, and ceremonious rejection side so I don't get #rekt by aetherworks marvel. Lieutenant and Selfless Spirit are fantastic.
But I missed Kambal entirely! Fantastic card. I was also running instone.dec. White cards are also so good at removing things.

I have tried MTG before but never really got into it cause it's was hard at my shop cause the only people who played were the gritty kind of players who tore you to shreds and never really helped newer players. That being said this deck might make me want to play again. My question is though how soon would this deck rotate out some of its bigger pieces. If I want to invest I don't want to invest in something that is gonna rotate quickly.

I have been trying hard to make a Sultai deck, but no luck yet :c
The strongest is probably Sultai Emerge, but it is not as good as Grixis I think, and it is also missing RAMP.
I've been working on a similar build but Esper. Adding in Glimmer for card advantage, Essence Flux and Displace for blinking and some counterspells.
Also for a 3 color deck i'd suggest Sultai. Its not my favorite but l have a particularly "spooky" Sulti build. But if that's not what you choose please no Mardu, Grixis or Jeskai, I just think there what's running around the most in standard at the moment.
saw this video and love the idea so i put this deck together with a few changes i put in authority and sorin hopefully test playing it tonight ,any other ideas i could make this deck more competitive? also you ahould put together a jund midrange i love those colors and really would like to use chandra (both of them ) before she cycles out and also the black and red gearhulks

Azorius Tempo/Aggro is really good right now but I wonder if we can make Esper work? I found with Esper that if you don't have double black for grasp by turn two on the play or draw, it just gets worse from there and you get ran over by Boros Vehicles.

This deck has all the pieces I want to play in standard for the next year but it's frustrating losing to aggro at your local meta week after week. Azorius has all the tools to combat most match-ups fairly well and has performed better thus far. I'll be playing it moving forward for the foreseeable future.
I want to see Blue, Black and Green in a Super competitive deck.
I guess you have to justify running blue over strict G/B Delirium decks, and otherwise have to justify green in blue/black controlling decks. Kind of hard to do, for me, but maybe he's up to the task.
stev019 sultai emerge is still a thing. not as big as grixis but it's fun to play.
Hey Dev, used this deck or atleast a slight variation of this at FNM yesterday. I got wrecked but I think it's cause I live in Tucson, AZ and a lot a crazy good Magic players with a lot of cash to burn go to my local shop for FNM. I'm hoping to give this deck a few upgrades over the next few weeks and I'll let you know how it does. Also just cause I got wrecked doesn't mean I didn't have fun. Jund! Selfish reasons though. I've been trying to make Jund work in this standard and all the pieces are there, however I can't make them fit right to be competitive. Wondering what I'm missing or if the deck is not there at the moment.
If you have one hanging around Noxious Gearhulk is a great addition to this deck too, possibly in place of Linvala or one of the Demon of Dark Schemes.

Nice deck. I would prefer Angel of Invention over Linvala. Lin's triggers are nice but they only go off under ideal conditions. I would prefer the guaranteed 4/3 Vigilance Lifelink Flyer over the 5/5 Flyer. Sure you thought of this too so wondering why you with with Lin?
TheAnanaki this deck won't use the angel's anthem ability well and she is too easy to removed with 3 toughness where as Linvala is likely to be 8 power on board and 5 life.
13eetle13omber I def see the benefits of Lin if either or both of her triggers hit or just bc of her toughness. I just wonder if the triggers hit more than not.

Would love to see your take on a grixis/jeskai control deck. Been trying to fit in demon of dark schemes in the grixis build bc of my lgs having lots of aggro but I would like to see if you have anything interesting to add to these decklists that keep popping up at tournaments
I've been telling people since Gonti was first spoiled that he was amazing and should see Standard play. Heck he's a 2/3 DEATHTOUCHING BODY for 4 that literally steals a spell from your opponent to use against them AND messes with their next batch of draws. Soooo good.
This looks like a deck I already have haha. Mine is slightly less budget... and by slightly I mean way less budget. 4 of gideon, 4 of avacyn haha
EDIT: You talk about this later! I'm surprised you didn't suggest smuggler's copter for blocking/looting! Everyone always thinks of it as an attacking thing, but it works well with thraben on blocks too, if you're trying to play a long game.
Only card I haven't tried is Gonti. Do you really think it's competitive enough to run in an extremely not-budget deck over something like lili or kalitas?

I just want some help hahaha, I have 2 decks in standard, the first one is a Esper Control with a lot of planswakers and "control cards", the another one is a Gitrog Delirium Emrakul deck, is good but not too much to be a really competitive deck, has 2 lilianas, 3 gitrog 2 nissas of kaladesh 2 emrakul 1 gonti, 4 grasp, 2 ruinous path, 1 splendind reclamation... etc etc... but the important thing is, I love the Gitrog and I just wanna have a really good standard with him hahaha... I really wanna know if you can do some speciall video with Gitrog. ( I love this Death and taxes)... regreads from Mexico.
I was hoping to see a B/G/W Pseudo-Delirium. I'm trying one with displacer, mindbender, extricator with a decimator finisher. Any B/G/W would be appreciated as are all your brews.
made basically this exact deck about 2 weeks ago, except I preferred to run a full set of authority of consuls, and 3 up of consuls shield guard. to protect my adviser and thalia, I also had issues with being to low to the ground so I decided to run aerial responder toped off with sorin for his wonderful ult. ended up playing a game against a control heavy deck and ulted him when I had 154 LP (oh and lone rider works great with the life link/ healing motif)
I feel like this and R/G energy are probably the decks I would play in this standard. I absolutely LOVE Orzhov as a color combo and this fits so well with what they do!

This looks great. I would love to see an abzan deck maybe abzan tokens or walkers. I also wouldn't be sad if I saw a jund list. filigree familiar would be great in either fyi that card is under looked especially in three mana decks. As always great vid keep it up.
Three colors I would want is Mardu (R/B/W). Probably something control. But then you have to justify not running blue/have to figure out how to get card advantage other than painful truths/succumb to temptation cause those hurt a lot in certain matchups.
If you have nothing Mardu, I suppose I would suggest Esper (W/B/U)! I recently made a no-creatures, tons of Planeswalkers, control deck that sides into a lot of anti-aggro instants and kalitas. It's been going quite well, but game 1 has been tough against aggro. However, most of my matchups are not aggro at my LGS/amongst my friends right now so I just leave it in the sideboard.
I'd love to see your take on Esper control, especially cause I don't really see a reason to be in anything but Jeskai or Grixis if you're not running the black Planewalkers and/or Kalitas. I don't consider anguished unmaking a good enough reason. Gideon + Lili and grasp + fumigate (and one descend upon for the zombies!) in the same deck were pretty good reasons to me. And then blue just has all the stuff you need for card advantage right now, and Dovin Baan/Jace can be run (underrated right now imo).
But the deck also costs like 350-400 dollars. So a little rough on the wallet.
Found two would cutting ob for Gideon be a good idea? Just want to check because ob seems kind of essential but I already have two gideons
Gideon would put Kambal out of the range of burn once you get an emblem up. Against burn I'd use his -4 ability right as soon as you cast him. He makes life hard for aggro too. I would say it's not a horrible swap.
Question, I'm relatively new to Magic and I was wondering how many win conditions are recommended? Obviously 1 is the minimum, but I currently have two win conditions in my deck I built and could go to 3. Is that overkill or should I do that?
Aaron Galloway depends what you mean by win condition. Any creature could technically be a win condition. I would say you want 4 or 5 main win con creatures and or spells. Depends if you playing an aggro deck in which you want 15 low cost "win cons", midrange/tempo which could have 5 or 6 main guys, or control where you have like 2 big dudes and the rest kill spells or counter etc.

yes. Gonti is a mfn boss. a beast. the boon of 3 decks I built including the B/U deck you banged out last week. ive won more games with gonti in my deck than not.

Seems like a really fun deck that I have a good bit of the cards for thanks! Show me a 3 color combination that isn't Jeskai or Mardu and I will be happy. Maybe another Naya deck could be fun. Or Abzan Servos featuring Angel of Invention, Marionette Master, and Cultivator of blades!

Esper or another Bant I feel would be great 3 color mix for another time. Still been trying to recreate your last Bant Control in this new standard just havent found the right Dev mix.
Yo this deck is off the hook!! I do have a couple of suggestions.you should add a accursed witch to the deck. You can swing with it forcing your opponent to kill it or if they board wipe you then that accursed witch will enchant them. If you have the witch and the consul on the battlefield. They will have to target one or the other or if the witch enchants them they are gonna have to use their fragmitise to get rid of it and if you have the console on the battlefield they will lose life

There doesn't seem to be a lot of red black white decks. There's kaalia in Commander and...yeah... I don't see much more done with those colors.
