The best Video Ever. Just for anyone who is stuck on the password and its not showing up and saying " not currently playing on any game server" Load up Valheim the game and it should connect. It did that with me.

It's something I always wanted to do but was too intimidated to try and I imagine that is what you want your site to be about, enabling us tech challenged people! Although the process of initiating the server was straight forward, getting good connectivity on tha server proved slightly more troublesome. In the end, my issue was that I had overlooked my Google One VPN being enabled. It is so unobtrusive and just sits in the background working, I totally forgot I was running through it. Once I disabled it, all connectivity issues were resolved. Super simple first step that I should have checked. Even if you did warn us, which I imagine you did, I had forgotten I had it enabled so I can't even blame it on you. Thank you for taking the time to upload what you do and I now have a sold tech site to reference when needed. Haugesund has been created!
@@RascallyRelic17 gotta login to the admin account holder. I had to do it through the app on my phone since its not supported on browser which was weird. in setting i was able to port forward

I followed all these steps, and after connecting to my own server through steam it opens the Valheim game, I click start, and then after loading I get a "Failed to Connect"? any thoughts as to why?

If you already have a world on your computer, just put your world's name in the .bat and it should find it in on your computer (C:\users ame\AppData\locallow\IronGate\Valheim). I just tried it with my server and it works.
Thanks, i had the wrong ip down since i used my portforward ip from a minecraft server i made 2 years ago. my ip had changed since then and you helped me check my current IP to fix the issue. runs great now and people can join.
Hey great video bud, I got the server up and running and I'm pretty sure all my port forwarding and such is correct. My question is how do my friends go about getting onto the server whilst in game? I know I have to give them my IP and such but from there where would they go to enter the server itself?
Whenever my friends try to connect with my IPv4, the steam server list doesn't show it. I've done Port Forwarding correctly and looked over it a few times, is there something that someone else had to do or am I doing something wrong? And my friends would connect through the steam server list, right? Or is it through Valheim somehow?
He needs to write: yourIPv4Adress:2456 When you changed the port you need to write it instead of 2456. When he can't connect through 2456 than try to change it with 2457
If it says "server is not responding", then your cmd file isn't up or not allowing port forwarding. I’ve never seen the description not “currently running a game”

I love the detailed guide, but I ran into an issue when I followed along. When I connect to the server, it takes me to the character selection screen, and after I select my character it attempts to connect to the server. It does not ask for the password the second time, then I get a "failed to connect" error message and booted back to the character selection screen. Ive triple checked my port forwarding info for my router and firewall, I believe it is set up correctly, and my files for the game and server have been verified and are up to date. I know this is a pretty old video/thread, but do you have any ideas what could be causing the error?
Ya same I'm even familiar with networking and nothing works, I've spent 3 days trying everything, I don't think this works anymore, at least not using port forwarding, you have -crossplay enabled it doesn't require that and will work

good video, tho i am stuck on the port forwarding. because my norwegian router page makes this 100x more hard for me then it should. so it only gives me Port range where i can type 2456-2458. not external or internal port. any idea?
in order to keep the server running you have to keep that start_headless_server program running at all times? that means i need to leave my computer on at all times if i want a server up and running at all times for friends to play?

Steam shows it as "server is not responding" . im pretty sure ive set everything up correctly as im running a Minecraft server on the same PC which people can connect to externally. My friends are unable to connect to the server, but I am. I am guessing this is the problem. Pls help SOLUTION: If your ipconfig has "Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection" as the source of your IPv4, do not use that to connect to the server. It works for the port forwarding, but not for the connecting. You need your public IPv4 to connect, just add the port to the end of the IP address.
A 2 core processor with 2.5 GHz and 4GB of RAM is the bare minimum. If you want to play with friends you definitely need more RAM. 3-4 people will need approximately 12-16GB, possibly a better processor too.
and when i start up the game every time, do i have to start up the bat file too?? but wouldn't that mean my friend wont be able to play unless i play??
Awesome video! One question: I've set up my own server on my PC, and trying to also play off the same PC. I saw when you played your game it was running pretty well. When I run mine, it runs at a slow 10-12fps (Regularly running the game I run +100fps, when I'm not running the server). Is it my hardware or internet? Ryzen 7 3700x RTX 2080 32GB RAM ~100MB download ~12MB upload
You're surposed to run the server on a different computer so that doesn't interfere with your main computer - That's why if you rent a server, they charge you $10-$15 because they have a actual server running your game.

worked fine for me. Spectrum doesn't make it easy to port forward but after some digging was able to do it successfully! Thanks for the vid :)

There are soo many different t ips im in the same boat its probably that for my issue but I've tried a few still no go

When I add the server to the steam, I can see the erver and it's name. My friends can connect it but I can't connect. It says connection failed.

when you select join at the top of the create a server after choosing start, there should be a button that says join with IP or something like that

u could just connect to your server and the your friends can see u in the friends tab on the server list. that worked for me.

My friends enter my external IP then the port after a colon and the server still does not show up
Either your windows firewall is preventing it or you didn't correctly port forward your ip.

How will this continue to work if you don't have a static IP? Seems like the first DHCP refresh/IP Change would kill any connections?
I tried running the server but it crashes after saying it couldnt create a Convex mesh. Any idea on how to fix it and thx in advance
Yes, you need to have a password with atleast 5 numbers or letters. hope they fix so you dont have to have password in the future :)

SOLUTION:
