Synopsis: Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease. His stern, pastor father (DENNIS QUAID) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher. As a young man, Rickey (COLIN FORD) becomes a baseball phenomenon. His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey's dream of playing professional baseball.

Dennis Quaid is one of the most underrated actors of all time! He doesn't get the recognition he deservers among the other top A listers. I can watch his movies all day long. The Rookie, A Dogs Purpose, I can only Imagine, Soul Surfer, The Day After Tomorrow, and so on!

The hill
I never met Ricky Hill, but his dad James Hill was a pastor friend to my pastor dad. We attended preachers meetings in Fort Worth, Texas together. My brother in law was a classmate of Ricky's in school there in Haltom City, Texas.
Everyone is born with a gift , this movie is motivation to keep progressing. Will see it.

He was a very brave boy that became a very brave man and had such spirit and determination that you could only admire the strength he had to endure the struggles and told to give up by so many people including his own father. He deserved all the success he got In life.
My 17 year old son bought the 1959 Plymouth Suburban featured in this movie. It’s cool to see it actually running. It’s a major rehab-needs everything LOL.

There’s nothing about this film that’s faithful and hopeful. This story is written to fit a narcissistic narrative. There is hardly any truth to it. Rickey Hill has done nothing but cause problems. It’s appalling to think that he even has a movie about him. It’s sad because this movie really makes a mockery of his family.

A crazy thing happened tonight. My family is watching the movie, The Hill, and at 54:10 into the movie, my 15 year old son cries out, Mr. Tinkertrain!. I'm like what? The background sounds of kids chattering in the movie are the same exact kids you hear to start the song Mr. Tinkertrain. Well done, son!

This was a wonderful movie based on a True Story & anyone who has a problem it. I question their Beliefs!!!!! Dennis Quad always does a great job & I love the fact he puts making Faith Based movies as a priority! I hv loved all of the Christian movies(Faith based) I've seen him in! Wonderful movie & recommended it to my son who is in college. & I'll be recommending it to many others!!!!

This was filmed at lake olmstead
The scenes on the farm and home were filmed about three miles from where I used to live in Thomson, GA. I drove by there around the time they were filming and they had shipped in about fifty head of longhorn cattle. I knew then the movie was based in Texas. Lol
Why am I just finding out about this now?! If it was in theatres last year I would have went! I'll have to find it on demand.

It's based on a true story that's why. Go watch the 2007 movie Pride with Terrence Howard, it's also based on a true story.
What luck, I felt like nachos and was totally out of processed cheese.
I wouldn't call this a faith-based movie but it's definitely a very Christian friendly movie.
It's not preachy like some of them are.
I have watched this movie numerous times it is so wholesome and family entertainment and it's a true story.
