Chamois Butt’r is what I always take along on my multi-day bike tours- yes, the big tube! 😊 After 2-3 weeks on the road, the space savings of those smaller packages vanish.
As far as Smoove, remember to (1) let it dry overnight and (2) thoroughly degrease the chain before first use. If you skip either, the lube will not work
I've had a great deal of success with Silca's wax and supplementing it with their Super Secret. But I love the bottle idea here. Is the bottle refillable and will it work with Super Secret? I don't use the Silca stuff on my g'kids bikes, I can't keep up with it for that many bikes. I would try Smoove on theirs and refill the bottle with Super Secret for me.
If lubing a chain on an e-bike always isolate the battery as the motor can start up as a response to the motion of the pedals even if it’s “off” obviously not all models do this, but it’s quite scary when they do.
@doesnotcompute6078 they usually have pedal torque or motion sensors. It's a response to the pedal motion that can tell the controller that you want to move.
Appreciate that you're sponsored but Sudocrem at £8.99 for 400 ml does the same job at 2.5 times less for the same amount. People go overboard with chamois creme.
I know it is implied, but probably best to make it clear that Smoovlube should be used in conjunction with or instead of immersive waxing. Not a good idea to mix it with wet or dry lubes. I also agree with the comment about the new applicator, which seems to me to lube parts of the chain that don’t need lubing. I have used Smoovlube in the past, but have recently moved over to the Silca wax based products which are highly thought of.
Love that lubretta attachment, actually a south African company called Ryder that developed, they must have given smoove a license to use. So freakin convenient.
About smoove … looking at your video it seems that a lot of little drops of lubricant are spread all over the wheel during the application. Not so good in my opinion, I prefer the method “1 drop per link”
That's my fault, trying too film and show the product at the same time isn't quite as easy as I thought, but trust me it works much better when I'm focused on the job 100% :)
A friend of mine just bought a gravel bike with the new GRX 12-speed groupset and to be frank it's a total ball-ache. Comes with a 10-36 cassette with big gaps between the cogs but if you want to use a narrower range cassette from the 12-speed road range you only get an 11 tooth sprocket at the top end. What's that all about Shimano? Just to cap it all you have very little choice in the chain rings as well as you need special ones to go with the new HG+ chain. I've got the old 11-speed GRX and I can change the gearing to suit the sort of riding I am doing. Put me right off Shimano I must say.
Hi David, what bike repair stand do you use/recommend? You mentioned it in one video I believe, but I can't find the video again. The stand wasn't the usual Park Tool one. Thanks.
I've been using a Feedback stand for the last few months, will do a video in the new year. Seems easier to use and more solid than the old Park Tool I had been using
the spatter on the tyre was telling. recommending a lube that never reaches the top of tests just based on an applicator that, to be frank a cheap microfibre cloth can better, just seems typical of so many youtubers.
Nope, the Garmin was a loan unit for review and it is on its way back to Garmin as we speak. That's how it works around here whether you choose to believe it or not
Can't believe you left out the £400 Caad 12, stretching the definition of 'product' I know but definitely the bargain of the year. Hope to see a lot more of it on the channel in '24.
The Park Tool chain scrubber works very well and there's lots of similar tools from other brands. I like the fact that these types of cleaners snap closed and contain most of the degreaser/mess.
I second the Park Cyclone tool rec. They start around $25-ish (CM-5.2 or 5.3), up to over $100 for the metal "bike shop" version, CM-25. I upgraded to the metal one this year because their Cyclone chain cleaning system works so very well and my original plastic one had a lot of use. People complain about the plastic ones breaking, but mine lasted a long time with reasonable care. I fill it with Zep citrus degreaser and 4-5 cleanings gets the chain to 99% of new. You won't believe what a good job it does. While the chain has the degreaser on it I use some brushes to clean the cassette. After all is clean rinse with the garden hose. I dry with an air compressor after. My bike is put away for the winter now, and after a through cleaning anyone would look at the drivetrain and think it's brand-spanking new.
07:43 "it took me a while to get my head around the computer I have to admit...". Why does owning a Garmin have to be like joining a secret society? I'll stick to the intuitive Wahoo range thanks.
Its not. I've never had an issue on either my edge 530 or my eTrex that I use for everything from bikepacking to field ecology in grad school. Its not hard to use Garmin
There is nothing wrong with cable-actuated derailleurs -- apart from the SHIMANO's implementation! Having huge loop of cable sticking out of your derailleur is a recipe for disaster, esp. when you are away from your bike shop, having your derailleur hanger and derailleur ripped away from your bike when you are in the wilderness!

My favorite in 2023: Rim brakes, mechanical shifting, ISM saddle, NTN bearings

which degreaser do you recommend ?
I'm on the fence about switching to either Smoove or Silca drip on wax... I like the Smoove applicator but supposedly Silca uses a better base
@@adamweb Silca for sure runs cleaner - and better preserves the drivetrain as per tests
I will stick with Fenwicks _All Condition Chain Lube_ - hold your hand against the frame when applying lube to the center of the chain ez pz.

I use Doublebase before and Sudocrem after a ride.
3:19 wild shifter cable run there
That rear cassette will make a deadly frisbee weapon for a distopian future where we’re chased through the forest on our gravel bikes.
You mean like the UCI Worlds Gravel Games?

Smoove is fab. Doesn't clump.
Personally, I'm very glad to say that I've never once used butt cream! Never suffered as a result either lol!
I don’t use butt cream per se but without fail I apply Vaseline around my man bits and inner thighs. Results in a much smoother ride.😅
I cannot find the lubretta attachment for sale on the Smoove website? Where did you purchase it?
Thank you.
Personally, I’ve never used a chamois cream. I’ve done 170 miles in one day, and a 1400 mile solo tour.

Cheers to smooth rides! It’s an honor to protect your undercarriage on all your adventures. Enjoy that Eurostyle tingle 😉
I bought a tube to try this summer. Wonderful stuff!
Shame the link is only for the USA 😮
Ahh, gravel bikes, MTBs from the 1990s. Wow, chamois butter, how 1980s is that.
Hi David, great video. Thanks. What kind of mount do you use fore your Garmin ?
Either the one that came with the Garmin or with mounts that are supplied with bikes especially those with one-piece handlebars
Smoove is great!

Can't seem to find Smoove Lube in the UK ? Do you know an online UK stockist please ?
I've been buying mine through Amazon - does take a little longer to arrive, but never had a problem

I'd like to see something not dissimilar to Smoove Lube but as a chain cleaning tool if one exists.

been using smooth lube on my indoor trainer , really clean to apply and decent quality stuff.
