honestly, if you haven't already, then read the manga. there's SO much more worldbuilding and small character interactions that I'm so sad weren't included. It breathes so much life into the series and I love it

So I just binged the entire anime in 1 sitting, from 630 pm to past 1 am in the morning and I just have to dish on it. I hated the voice acting until episode 3. Then it grew on me. Up until then I just loved the story, the art, the direction, the movement of the characters and everything was perfect except the voice acting. But then I noticed that the only voice I had an issue with as Legoshi's. "Why was that?" I thought and then as the series progressed I realized it, whenever he smiled his voice seemed to change, his demeanor and his attitude, and not one of those fake smiles he put on but one of the real ones, when he was with Haru (or Hal as they seemed to spell it in the Netflix episode description, wth is that about? Maybe the names are different in the translation). But back on the point, his voice changed, as if he stopped being unsure of himself or stopped being so 'in the closet' about his feelings, and no not that closet. The progression of everyone as a person in this series, even the minor characters (#teamLegom) were given such distinct personalities. From the interactions with Bill and Gouhin, Legoshi was fleshed out so completely in this season it leaves me wanting so much more. Because his story isn't complete and you get the feeling that it may never be, which is maybe the point? And then the score, the score of this series put me on the edge of my seat EVERY SINGLE SECOND. The fight with Bill, where it's an almost single continuous note like a razor being dragged across a wire in minor key, it just made the tension of the situation leak into reality, I could almost TASTE what Legoshi was feeling just from the score alone, there didn't even need to be any dialog and you could tell what was going through his mind as he walked on stage. And then Louis (or Rouis in this series I guess?) was such a divine character, albeit almost singular in who he is as a person, his development was sincere and felt natural, and the flashback portion of his story gave me chills, if only for the animation they used. AND NOW FOR SPOILERS Seriously, spoilers ahead... Juno is a bit of a bitch, but I love it. Okay not spoiler territory with just that but here is the rest of it: Here battle for Legoshi's affection feels natural. She is meant to be a mirror image of Rouis but as a carnivore, which is perfect and even though her attitude and her methods leave me at a football field's length I really can't wait to see her future in this anime. And now for two really big plot points for people...the hotel scene and the last 2 minutes of the last episode. The hotel scene was absolute briliance, it so perfectly encapsulated the insecurities and the uneasiness of both characters, both willing and unwilling to go into it. Out of fear of harming the other and out of fear of being rejected and devoured. It was relatabe, because some of us have been there for sure but for those who haven't we got the sense of unease and the sense of just how deep into that pit they were going. Neither really 'wanted' to but they both did without realizing it and when it got cut short even though it was so abrupt it was so natural for both characters. And finally...those last two minutes...just where Legoshi is chasing Haru up the stairs and their last few lines of dialogue together? Absolute perfection. I've read through most of the anime already and know the major plot points and know what happens but still, seeing the characters brought to life like this? I couldn't imagine a better way to enjoy this story...
The soundtrack is outstanding, the intro is superb and the action is amazing (the fight between legoshi and boss is my personal fav.) Also, little thing i noticed on my second run, surprisingly in quite of a lot of scenes, characters are humming melodies, mostly variation of tale of the moon ost. Well, atleast in japanese dub.
In an interview with the OST composer he said that he did the soundtrack in "cinematic" style instead of plain soundtrack. Meaning instead of just coming up with a few tunes like anime usually does, he wrote the music to match the actions on the screen. That's why it fits SO WELL! You can see Free at the gates at the entrance to the Shishigumi compound. He tries to reach for Gouhin and Gouhin punches him the f out. He's at 9:30 in your video!
This is probably my favorite anime now, the intro is possibly the best thing I've ever seen of anything (I've watched it probably like 24 times now), and it's so freaking likeable (the designs, the voice acting, the world building, the animation, everything)
The only models that I did not like where the felines, their faces, fur and teeth just looks... Off for some reason?? Actually all the carnivores with short nose got a weird teeth model, Legosi has really detailed teeth with makes me compare it even more.
@@kieranthewolftiger hm so after looking through some manga images it does seem birds dont have tail feathers they just leap and flap their wings lol but guess i could look at the legum chapter to see if best chicken have a tail feather but ya the bald engle and peafowl dont show tails when walking.
I’ve rewatched beastars 5 times already. Why? 1) The OP freaking SLAPS definitely my favorite anime OP. Also the whole soundtrack is a masterpiece. 2) I’m not a furry... but legoshi kinda amazing 3) The storyline of legoshi throughout this anime makes me contemplate about my own life, from him almost devouring Haru in the beginning to falling in love with Haru and then thinking, “is this right?”. All while trying to figure out who he is. 4) Legoshi is also a very relatable character, legoshi’s personality is depressed, shy, awkward, and timid. When most people like Louis believe he should be more outgoing and tougher since he is a wolf and a predator and all that stuff. 5) Legoshi and Haru’s relationship is so damn good. They know that they shouldn’t be together, but that didn’t matter to Legoshi or Haru. That didn’t stop him from loving Haru, which resulted in their bountiful bond to form. 6) One of the best dubbed anime I’ve ever seen, their voices really capture their character in such an amazing way.
Anyone who likes Beastars should definitely give Houseki no Kuni/Land of the Lustrous a chance. It's another top manga that was adapted as an anime around 2017. It was also animated by Orange, and you can watch it free on Amazon Prime Video.
@@AdaptiveReasoning There were two Agata lookalikes. One that was outside that grappled with Legoshi before he entered and one more prominently that got shot by Gohin. Also Agata is a lot darker than that so who knows.
@@acid5174 No, because when they are getting used to Louis as their boss Agata makes a comment about eating him once he's no longer useful, which Ibuki snaps and threatens his life. He's probably a low level member though.
I can't watch other 3D anime now. Beastars spoiled me. It looks so good. For characters with a lot of fur you have two options in 2D: make them move as little as possible or use a cartoony art style. The line count of furry characters is just way too high. The only way to have expressive and dynamic characters in a mostly realistic art style and "human" proportions is to be in 3D. And Orange really outdid themselves here. Not only are the character designs awesome, they really nailed the character animation. There is so much life in every character's animation. My friend who is strongly against 3D in anime even liked this show. And he couldn't watch things like Ajin or even Land of the Lustrous. But Beastars didn't break his immersion and I hope that so many other anti-3D people give this show a chance.
It was good, but I do miss the small silly moments that got cut, and the big emotive expressions. Some of the dance animation was jank, or at least it took me out of it. The detail on some of the fur was bad (Legosi's tail). Louis looked off, something about his head shape. They shouldn't have cut the scene with Louis and Bill and the gun, (like, where did he get the gun in the final act? That was the set up). Spoiler for season 2 below: Uh, why isn't Riz in the background? Anywhere? Like, I know the animation team knew about him, he's hinted at in the end.

@@kieranthewolftiger I think he was in some other background scenes but I think because he's a lot bigger than the animals in drama club that his head tends to be cropped out most of the time since the camera only seems to focus on eye level depending on the height of the focal character in the shot and we don't notice as much since he's not usually in the spotlight. He's also only really seen when the drama club is presented and as the season goes on, we get less scenes with Legosi in the drama club so we also have fewer scenes with Riz. Maybe since in the manga, he also didn't have much attention drawn to him until Legosi determines he's the killer, the anime is going for the same effect so anime only fans don't figure out Tem's killer until the reveal. This is only a theory.
YES! The dance animation! I haven't seen anyone else bring that up! Juno's face doesn't do *anything* during the dance at the meteor festival. Watch through that episode again. It look so uncanny. It's like they forgot to animate her head for that one scene.
Can't wait for the next season(s). Seeing how they cut out some stuff from the manga, I wonder if they're gonna cut that scene where Haru asks Legosi to show her his pen15 🤣

Loved the dub version. Sooo good. Also the cg animation is phenomenal I can’t imagine this show any different Loved this show so much i then started to read the manga and I’m up to date with it and...oh boy season two is gonna be 🔥 I can’t wait
The stage scene hits very particular to anybody who has been on a stage. Watching the drama club things at the start of the series reminded me of when I was in it back in high school. Really nostalgic and warm feeling
If you enjoy the animation you should watch Land of the Lustrous, it was animated by the same people and everyone also says it has beautiful animation.
I really loved how they did the animation, it makes the anime really stand out. I love animation that stands out, that's why one of my favorite movies right now is Klaus.
Beastars is one of those anime that has such a good ost that I'll sit and listen to the full ost while either playing games, drawing or doing school work
I always tell my normal friends to watch just the first four episodes to the Adler scene. Everyone, first Legoshi, then Bill, then Louis, they all steal the scene in sequence, and then the score, sound (in sub and dub), and digital cinematography are a m a z i n g. Easily one of the best like, first episodes and buildups in any drama anime. Already have one buddy who watched it with his wife and they loved it even as non-anime watchers/non-furries.
I was actually introduced to Beastars thanks to the anime. I was watching someone talk about good openings, and beastars popped up. I figured "Oh, this looks cool. I guess I could look into that." I watched the entire show, then read every chapter of Beastars that I could that night. I am so glad I found it, though I am not quite used to how the characters look in the Manga. I can't wait for season 2 to come out!
This piece of media (Beastars in general) is my favorite thing in the entire world and the anime was SO perfect...Until the last 4 episodes. It basically ruined the whole experience for me even though I was seriously holding out for it to get back on track. Hopefully Season 2 gets better since that’s my favorite arc.
To be fair, I started with the Anime for Bnha, Beastars, and One punch. I much prefer reading all of them (bonus I’ve only read Demon Slayer), they’re so enjoyable. But Beastars is the only one that competes with the manga in my opinion
I never knew about this anime, and gave it a whirl on netflix. I'm up to watching it now for the 6th time, ,and started reading the manga like crazy to find out the rest of the story. I'm up to chapter 100 now. I'm so excited for season 2. Great story, excellent anime. I'm addicted to what happens next.
Miss Piggy literally same here but I never even watched an anime before this one or read a manga. I had no clue why I liked this ( no lie I almost ditched after the end of episode 2) but I ended up watching it twice through in dub. (‘Cause I didn’t know otherwise) And by now I’ve caught up on all the manga to date. What have I done......
Ugh I binged ALL of the Beastars anime yesterday and my mind is absolutely blown. I've been trying to watch different shows all day because #coronavirus2020 but I CAN'T BECAUSE IT'S NOT BEASTARS. It's just iconic and god damn..... SO SO GOOD.
Was the subplot with the hen laying her eggs for Legoshi to eat included in the manga too? ‘Cause I was taken aback by it when I watched that part, I was like “What does this have to do with anything?” I thought they were gonna do this thing where they include side-stories of the other students at the school to co-exist with the main story but they don’t do that again the episodes after. Just seemed kind of random.
Studio orange did a great job with the adaptation I didn’t really mind the changes from the manga but it was good and the OST.....OHHHHHHH THE OST IS SO FUCKING GOOD THE SUB WAS GREAT AND IM SO EXCITED TO FOR SEASON TWO BECAUSE ITS MY FAVOURITE ARC...... Ahem sorry anyway great video bro
When I start an anime, my first watch is always neutral. Even when my favorite character die, I feel sad only at the rewatch. But with Beastars, was different. I felt A LOT of emotions in the first impression, and I was so hyped that I finished the entire season in like two days. Same thing with the Manga. Truly masterpiece.
Fun fact: when I first saw Beastars episode 1 I actually thought it was 2d aka hand animated aka traditionally animated. I haven’t even finished season 1 because I keep watching the first three or four episodes and I just LOVE the animation!

Their was something so fitting for the characters, Its strange to explain it but ive never read the manga but characters had something fitting for their voices. Like it made sense for them, the only VA id would complain that wasnt fitting was the mayor but it was overall superb Voice acting. Its worth noting I finished season 1 yesterday and its by far a new favorite of mine so Ill have to check out the manga or something.
From a big fan of the manga Studio Orange did a fantastic job. Are there things I wish they keep in that was cute? Absolutely, however i feel that it did justice to the story. My favorite anime for 2019.
with the release on netflix it was the moment to experience the dub and i was pleasantly surprise. for the moment i only listen to the french dub ( because its my native tongue) and it was pretty good. the french dub for Louis is the same as the french dub for isaac in the castlevania netflix show, so a very mature, serious voice. but it is with legoshi that we see the different interpretation of the actor. like in the vo, for me at least, he sound awkward, timid, there is a certain discomfort in his voice. In french he doesn't have those trait, he doesn't sound awkward, but he speak with a calm voice and sometime nonchalante as he was detached from everything. ( but he sometime break character when he talk to jack or when the situation escalate) and honestly when i first read the manga, this is what i imagined for his voice. ( remember the conversation he had in the first chapter with els, he says that he's used to being feared and that he dont' care anymore. and later when he first encounter juno he says that he wear a mask to deal with anger) so i always thought that a calm, nonchalante voice was a better fit. anyways, i started the german dub and for the moment it look pretty good too.
This was pretty good even if it did take itself a little bit too seriously at times and I'm not someone who usually likes the stuff people can't stop talking about so this was refreshing

I don’t even watch anime frequently, nor do I read manga. I just decided to watch this anime on a whim because of the quarantine. And dude. I got hooked. I’m starting the manga rn lol
pretty good video, I kinda liked the informalness of it. also, covid-19 is not going anywhere for months at minimum, likely at least a year. like we're still about a month and a bit out from the expected peak infection rate in the US, especially considering the laissez faire attitude way too many people are having with it. things will reopen eventually, but it's going to still be out there infecting people rapidly after that, the only concern is not letting it erupt all at once because then you start getting hundreds of deaths a day from lack of ventilators and ICU care due to overwhelmed hospitals like in Italy.

It concerns me that they acted out every scene because that means that they acted out the...slutty bunny scene (and also the sex scenes...and that one part with kibi in episode 3)
when you talked about the soundtrack it got me thinking about, and please for the love of god don't beat the shit out of me for mentioning it, undertale and how the game has a similar way of handling its motifs.
At 8:44 the lion in the middle that appeared in the manga panel is not Ibuki. It's the random lion that pointed a gun to Legoshi and later got shot in the ear and killed by Gouhin. The lion on his right side is also random. The anime changed the middle lion's position to the left, removed free and added Ibuki and Dolph.

@@AdaptiveReasoning There were two Agata lookalikes. One that was outside that grappled with Legoshi before he entered and one more prominently that got shot by Gohin. Also Agata is a lot darker than that so who knows.

He's probably a low level member though.
What we got in season 1 totally seemed like some sort of placeholders. Ibuki's character art for Season 2 looks much better

I can't watch other 3D anime now. Beastars spoiled me. It looks so good. For characters with a lot of fur you have two options in 2D: make them move as little as possible or use a cartoony art style. The line count of furry characters is just way too high. The only way to have expressive and dynamic characters in a mostly realistic art style and "human" proportions is to be in 3D. And Orange really outdid themselves here. Not only are the character designs awesome, they really nailed the character animation. There is so much life in every character's animation.
My friend who is strongly against 3D in anime even liked this show. And he couldn't watch things like Ajin or even Land of the Lustrous. But Beastars didn't break his immersion and I hope that so many other anti-3D people give this show a chance.
It was good, but I do miss the small silly moments that got cut, and the big emotive expressions. Some of the dance animation was jank, or at least it took me out of it. The detail on some of the fur was bad (Legosi's tail). Louis looked off, something about his head shape. They shouldn't have cut the scene with Louis and Bill and the gun, (like, where did he get the gun in the final act? That was the set up).

@@kieranthewolftiger I think he was in some other background scenes but I think because he's a lot bigger than the animals in drama club that his head tends to be cropped out most of the time since the camera only seems to focus on eye level depending on the height of the focal character in the shot and we don't notice as much since he's not usually in the spotlight. He's also only really seen when the drama club is presented and as the season goes on, we get less scenes with Legosi in the drama club so we also have fewer scenes with Riz. Maybe since in the manga, he also didn't have much attention drawn to him until Legosi determines he's the killer, the anime is going for the same effect so anime only fans don't figure out Tem's killer until the reveal. This is only a theory.

The stage scene hits very particular to anybody who has been on a stage. Watching the drama club things at the start of the series reminded me of when I was in it back in high school. Really nostalgic and warm feeling
If you enjoy the animation you should watch Land of the Lustrous, it was animated by the same people and everyone also says it has beautiful animation.

This is what got me into the manga and I've been glued to the series ever since.
I knew this was gonna be good. This studio also adapted Land of the Lustrous which they did fabulously.
I always tell my normal friends to watch just the first four episodes to the Adler scene. Everyone, first Legoshi, then Bill, then Louis, they all steal the scene in sequence, and then the score, sound (in sub and dub), and digital cinematography are a m a z i n g. Easily one of the best like, first episodes and buildups in any drama anime. Already have one buddy who watched it with his wife and they loved it even as non-anime watchers/non-furries.
I was actually introduced to Beastars thanks to the anime. I was watching someone talk about good openings, and beastars popped up. I figured "Oh, this looks cool. I guess I could look into that." I watched the entire show, then read every chapter of Beastars that I could that night. I am so glad I found it, though I am not quite used to how the characters look in the Manga. I can't wait for season 2 to come out!

This piece of media (Beastars in general) is my favorite thing in the entire world and the anime was SO perfect...Until the last 4 episodes. It basically ruined the whole experience for me even though I was seriously holding out for it to get back on track. Hopefully Season 2 gets better since that’s my favorite arc.
To be fair, I started with the Anime for Bnha, Beastars, and One punch. I much prefer reading all of them (bonus I’ve only read Demon Slayer), they’re so enjoyable. But Beastars is the only one that competes with the manga in my opinion
I never knew about this anime, and gave it a whirl on netflix. I'm up to watching it now for the 6th time, ,and started reading the manga like crazy to find out the rest of the story. I'm up to chapter 100 now. I'm so excited for season 2. Great story, excellent anime. I'm addicted to what happens next.

Was the subplot with the hen laying her eggs for Legoshi to eat included in the manga too? ‘Cause I was taken aback by it when I watched that part, I was like “What does this have to do with anything?” I thought they were gonna do this thing where they include side-stories of the other students at the school to co-exist with the main story but they don’t do that again the episodes after. Just seemed kind of random.

When I start an anime, my first watch is always neutral. Even when my favorite character die, I feel sad only at the rewatch.
But with Beastars, was different. I felt A LOT of emotions in the first impression, and I was so hyped that I finished the entire season in like two days. Same thing with the Manga.
Truly masterpiece.
Fun fact: when I first saw Beastars episode 1 I actually thought it was 2d aka hand animated aka traditionally animated. I haven’t even finished season 1 because I keep watching the first three or four episodes and I just LOVE the animation!

Their was something so fitting for the characters, Its strange to explain it but ive never read the manga but characters had something fitting for their voices. Like it made sense for them, the only VA id would complain that wasnt fitting was the mayor but it was overall superb Voice acting. Its worth noting I finished season 1 yesterday and its by far a new favorite of mine so Ill have to check out the manga or something.

From a big fan of the manga Studio Orange did a fantastic job. Are there things I wish they keep in that was cute? Absolutely, however i feel that it did justice to the story. My favorite anime for 2019.
with the release on netflix it was the moment to experience the dub and i was pleasantly surprise. for the moment i only listen to the french dub ( because its my native tongue) and it was pretty good. the french dub for Louis is the same as the french dub for isaac in the castlevania netflix show, so a very mature, serious voice. but it is with legoshi that we see the different interpretation of the actor. like in the vo, for me at least, he sound awkward, timid, there is a certain discomfort in his voice. In french he doesn't have those trait, he doesn't sound awkward, but he speak with a calm voice and sometime nonchalante as he was detached from everything. ( but he sometime break character when he talk to jack or when the situation escalate)
and honestly when i first read the manga, this is what i imagined for his voice. ( remember the conversation he had in the first chapter with els, he says that he's used to being feared and that he dont' care anymore. and later when he first encounter juno he says that he wear a mask to deal with anger) so i always thought that a calm, nonchalante voice was a better fit.
anyways, i started the german dub and for the moment it look pretty good too.
This was pretty good even if it did take itself a little bit too seriously at times and I'm not someone who usually likes the stuff people can't stop talking about so this was refreshing

things will reopen eventually, but it's going to still be out there infecting people rapidly after that, the only concern is not letting it erupt all at once because then you start getting hundreds of deaths a day from lack of ventilators and ICU care due to overwhelmed hospitals like in Italy.

At 8:44 the lion in the middle that appeared in the manga panel is not Ibuki. It's the random lion that pointed a gun to Legoshi and later got shot in the ear and killed by Gouhin. The lion on his right side is also random. The anime changed the middle lion's position to the left, removed free and added Ibuki and Dolph.
