I really enjoyed this playthrough, it helped me a lot with understanding how to play. You both explain everything really well and build a very relaxing atmosphere. Thank you Glai and Pat!
Thank you Bianca! We're really glad you liked our playthrough, and that it helped you understand how to play. We hope you have fun when you get it to the table. It's a very chilled out game with a lovely theme and great art!
Nice Belphegor! I'm sure you will have a lot of fun playing Wingspan. Please let us know how you get on, and if you have any questions about how to play, let us know and we'll get back to you as soon as we can!
Hi Robert! Really glad that our video helped you. We don't currently own a copy of Bitoku or Great Western Trail but if we get our hands on them we will do a playthrough for sure. Thanks for your comment!
That is really great to hear. Our hope is that our videos will make it easier for you guys to learn how to play so it is always nice to hear that they are helpful. Thanks a lot for watching and for taking the time to comment! :-)
Great video, and what a game. I’ll be getting this for a Christmas gift, so I’ve been watching a bunch of videos on rules etc. Your video was great because it was actual gameplay. You two seem like you really enjoy playing games together. Merry Christmas 🎄
It is a very fun game! I hope you have a lot of fun with it at Christmas, and really glad that our video helped you learn how to play. We wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Yeah, we had a lot of fun with Wingspan. There is a really nice, relaxing atmosphere to the game and it's nice and chilled to play. Better late than never, as they say! Looking forward to hearing how you get on when you get a chance to play it!
Another great playthrough, have this game and never played it, will give it a go. I love how you record the videos, with different cameras, that's really neat and should give some work with editing, but pays off. Keep the good work!
@Hobbyist Life Thanks a lot. Glad you liked the video! If you do get a chance to play Wingspan, let us know how it goes. Would love to hear what you think!
Hai pat, love you video. I want to ask some rules 😊. If we already full playbird on some land ( 5 bird in a row ) , can we still active the power bird?. Or we still have to put our token block on the empty space first?
Hi Seranggas! It's nice to hear from you again. We're really glad you liked the video. If you have 5 birds in a row, you can still use the action at the very end, at the far right-hand side after the cards. You spend the cube, then get the benefit in the right column, and then trigger all the bird powers in the row. Hope this helps!
Well played both of you. Wingspan is a game I'd like to play, just not enough to buy it. I hope you'll cover Terraforming Mars eventually. I'm more of a wargamer, but that's my favourite non-wargame along with Twilight Struggle (and not just because it's designed by Swedes...)
Hi SIrbrastias. Yeah, I was a bit sceptical about the theme before playing, but it turns out to be very engaging and fun to play. There are lots of options and I like the interaction between the cards - not too unlike Terraforming Mars! Actually, our second playthrough video was Terraforming Mars with the Prelude expansion. It is Glai's favourite game and my second favourite (I'm mad into Gloomhaven!). We do intend on doing more TM videos though, hopefully incorporating some of the other expansions too. Jacob Fryxelius has done Sweden proud! Twilight Struggle is amazing too and that will certainly make an appearance in an upcoming video.
@SIrbrastias I hold them both fully responsible too! haha Thanks a lot for watching the videos. We will definitely do another Terraforming Mars though. There are a few games we would like to get through first but it is on the cards for sure.
Very excellent playthrough. I have had this game on my shelf for far too long, and now I can finally get my mind wrapped around the gameplay, thanks to this video. I have a question about a minor rule distinction. When Glai was activating her Wetlands birds, the first bird allowed her to draw a card, and discard one from her hand at the end of her turn. It looked like she was drawing the card and then discarding one immediately. It didn't make a difference for most of the game, but there was at least one turn when she activated both this bird and the bird that lets the player(s) with the fewest Wetlands birds draw a card. Could she not have drawn the card from the first bird, then drawn the card from the second bird, and then decided which card to discard, as activating the second bird comes before the end of her turn?
Hi Jim! Really glad that you liked the playthrough, and it is great to hear that our video will help you get the game down off your shelf. When you start playing, it is actually quite straightforward and easy to follow. Just set it up and give it a go! As regards your question, Glai's Black Tern's ability says that "When activated, draw 1 card. If you do, discard 1 card from your hand at the end of your turn." She should not have discarded immediately - it is meant to happen at the end of the turn, though she may just have had a card that she knew she wasn't going to use anyway, so it probably didn't really make much difference. But technically yes, she should have waited until the end of her turn before discarding, and therefore she could have drawn the card from the first bird, then drawn the card from the second bird, and then decided which card to discard.
Is it possible to put a cube in the "Play a bird" row in a column where a bird has already been placed this turn, when there is already a cube there? Example: on round 1, for my first action, I place my action cube in “play a bird” on the wet lands. For my second action, I “gain food.” Then for my third action, I place my action cube in “play a bird” on the wet lands AGAIN. So I would be placing 2 birds in the same round. Is that possible? Or would I have to complete the whole column (forest, dry, wet) down FIRST, before playing a bird in that column from right to left? Hope this makes sense. Thank you.
Hi Buzz. Yes, you can play multiple birds to the same habitat in the same round. You must place your action cube at the top of the column where you wish to play the bird, and don't for get to play the egg cost indicated at the top of that column. You always play new birds in the leftmost empty space of a habitat. In your example, the third action would be perfectly legal. You do not need to complete a whole column before moving to the next one. Hope this helps!
I really enjoyed this playthrough, it helped me a lot with understanding how to play. You both explain everything really well and build a very relaxing atmosphere. Thank you Glai and Pat!
