    ⚠ To clarify! Everything I describe in this video can be done for free and without a subscription. Just be sure you're accessing the site on desktop rather than mobile (where they funnel you to the app/subscription). You can't access the "pro" and "official" charts, but there are usually plenty of other options. I'm sure there are some nice perks of a paid subscription, but I have never had one personally, and I have no affiliation with ultimate guitar.

    How have I never realized they had a piano option? I definitely submitted a few tabs to UG back in the early 2000s. Been using that site forever. It’s a classic.
    On a side note, bit of a coincidence that you chose Knocking on Heavens Door as your example. GnR did their famous cover of that song and UG was started because the guy who created it couldn’t find a GnR tab online 😂

      @@PianowithNate Good, I’m not the only one! Yeah, it’s funny that I learn this now because I’ll probably never need to use it at this point lol. Building chords is pretty much a wrap for me. One of the things I love about piano is it’s so much more intuitive when it comes to theory. It’s so much easier to look at something like a m7b5 and just build it. Certain things get a little lost in the sauce with guitar. And you notice things more on piano. Like, on guitar, I knew I could substitute a vii° for a V7, but it wasn’t until I learned piano that I realized why it works so well. A vii° is just a rootless V7. Duh… why didn’t I notice that on guitar? I knew the notes. I should’ve noticed it, but I didn’t.

    Thanks so much for this Nate! I always use ultimate guitar in piano setting to try and learn songs on my own, but I had NO IDEA there was the transpose feature! I always wondered why some of them just didn't sound right when I tried them. Can't wait to use this feature!
    Also one suggestion, I've downloaded and printed all the chords and lyric sheets from your lessons and one thing I wish they had is the chord shapes used in the songs (like the header on ultimate guitar), especially when they are inversions!!!
    Thanks as always for the amazing content you put out!

      Hey Ashley! Glad this video gave you some useful tips.
      Thanks for the feedback on the chord charts too...I'll mull it over. I think I could certainly do it for the simpler songs. My worry is that for more complicated songs, especially those that do different inversions of the same chord in different sections, it would be a big undertaking that would make it so I'd have to slow down my pace of releasing videos.

    Awesome video, Nate! I've fallen out of practice for a bit due to some health stuff but I'm hoping to get back to regular practice soon. Your videos and lessons are my number one source of learning and ultimate guitar is my second. I'm still navigating how to make chord charts sound right. I usually get stalled at rhythm and timing and all that. I can replicate the chords just fine and navigate inversions but figuring out when to play, especially on songs that are originally guitar that I want to sound more like guitar.
    I've still got highwayman by the white buffalo on my wishlist for a tutorial! And I'll throw the ballad of Curtis Loew on there as well just cos I'm greedy.
    Also wondering if you're planning on doing any Christmas content for December? If so, looking forward to it. My initial goal when I first got my piano was to be able to play a couple Christmas songs within my first year of learning.
    Thanks again for all your effort and content, Nate! You're so helpful and inspiring to so many. Happy holidays and can't wait to see what's next!

      Ultimate Guitar is for the most part free except for the Original Versions, which aren’t submitted by users. Other than that you get ads and no autoscroll feature without the subscription. You can still print it or scroll while playing. I’ve been using ultimate guitar for quite sometime and I’m very happy. I even bought the subscription for 25€ annually (only during sales) and I didn’t regret it.

    I have found it hard to know how many beats to give to each chord without looking at the sheet music. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    • @Percy500
      @Percy500 10 місяців тому

      Sometimes users include the rhythm in the beginning of the tab for guitar players or you could listen to it and try to hear the rhythm. I personally just play the chords according to the sheet and notice, while singing, what chords have to be repeated or are played for example for an eight. Try to start with a song you know in order to have a feeling, while playing, how the song should sound and start experimenting there.

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  10 місяців тому

      This can definitely be a challenge. One thing I will say is you will get better at this over time. I recommend taking some time to listen to the recording and try tapping your foot along to count the rhythms. Using some sheet music as well just as a reference just for the measure structure is a great tool right now as you keep developing your ear. Cheers!

    So I just came from your live streaming and this tutorial was in my you tube feed. Ah the wonders of the selection algorithm! I am familiar with UG but the biggest problem is font size! All of UG songs are too small for my old eyes. That’s one of the reasons I like your chord sheets. Bigger fonts, nice line spacing, plus the notes on the little fills/runs that make the song unique. Thanks Nate.

    • @Percy500
      @Percy500 10 місяців тому

      I doesn’t indicate the rhythm per se. Sometimes users include the rhythm in the beginning of the tab for guitar players or you could listen to it and try to hear the rhythm. If there’s an offical version to a song and you have the pro subscription you have access to the sheet music and rhythms for the instrument, but that would nearly be equivalent to just looking at the sheet music.

      Hi! Unfortunately it generally does not. That is where you'll need to bring in other tools, like playing along and imitating the recording and finding what sounds good to your ear. The more songs you learn, the better a feel you'll have for it. Have fun :)
