    This was the best explanation ever. Counting that wwhwwwh was killing me. 😂 now I just count up four and up three for major. For minor I don’t have a problem. I just lower the third by half step.

    Great tutorial, well explained, even I can understand & get my head around this. You made a very good point about Not counting the first piano key, when counting up to the third. This I found is a common mistake, as generally in life when we count things, we count the first item. This is the first tutorial I have watched, and it appears your method of teaching may be suitable for me. I would suggest that what we are actually counting here is Intervals, and look forward to exploring some of your other tutorials. We may be on the same wavelength.

      Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! And yes, through teaching private lessons I learned that counting the first note was a common mistake. You're right about intervals...I just released an intervals video you might enjoy: ua-cam.com/video/A9oHwvnKfvs/v-deo.htmlsi=4LMi2L7optuf1pfN

    I have given up on learning to play the piano long ago. I found it boring and monotonous, especially music theory. Recently, when I discovered Echo City and listened intently to your efficient and easy teaching method, my interest came back. From that moment, I watched all your UA-cam presentations to relearn my skills. Thank you for your generous time and for sending me the piano chords for the classic piece, Can't Help Falling in Love. I am registering to be one of your numerous students Nate. Imagine how boring the world is without music. You are doing an excellent service without you being aware of it. Kudos and God bless.

    Thanks, Nate for the great approachable videos. I studied music years ago and did the minimum required piano proficiency training but really nothing since. I’ve started using your videos to pick up enjoyable songs I can sing along with after many years away from music. I like your style and format!
    BUT, you’re killing me with the inconsistent nomenclature on screen. It’s picky but important to understanding a triad.
    For example:
    F# triad is NOT F#, Bb, Db
    All triads are composed of 1, 3, 5 with root being 1. The third and fifth names are modified with sharps or flats as needed to match the intervals needed for major/minor/aug/dim.
    So for F#:
    F#, G#, A#, B, C#
    F#, A#, C#
    F# is ROOT
    F# to A# is a THIRD
    F# to C# is a FIFTH
    Hence the 1, 3, 5 in the triad.
    What you show on screen is 1, 4, 6. Makes no sense. Can’t have a sixth in a triad.
    Yes they SOUND the same and are the same to the hands, but it’s important for learners to understand how intervals relate to chord construction, especially as people advance.

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  8 місяців тому

      You're absolutely right, I was being lazy and letting my MIDI display software do whatever it would do. In the last couple of years I've paid more attention to chord spelling in my videos. It just unfortunately means a lot more editing time of multiple screen recordings to get it right.
      I do plan on redoing and improving this video at some point :)

    hey man i really like your videos its explained like a helpful big brother and i just learned harvest moon thanks to you! do flat and sharp keys mean the same thing (black key) and just are a sound difference? moved a little quick and i got a bit confused there

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  Рік тому

      Hi! Sharp means to go up a half step (usually to the black key right above a note), flat means to go down by a half step. So they are just two different ways to name black keys...F# and Gb are the exact same note on the keyboard, and sound the same.
      Cheers!

    A Major triad is A C# and E - calling it Db in place of C# makes a real mess of the A scale - people need to learn scales and how the patterns for (for sharps) for C(0) to G(1#) to D(2#) to A(3#) etc and flats go c to F to Bb to Eb to Ab etc and pattern helps you recall how many flats or sharps... otherwise all your guidance is really helpful

    • @PianowithNate
      @PianowithNate  Місяць тому +1

      @@harryfento you’re absolutely right - when I made this I was at the mercy of what my midi keyboard software displayed and I just capitulated haha. For this reason I’m going to redo this video soon. Cheers!

      Hi! Make sure you're using good technique (wrists up, fingers curved, playing on your fingertips). Take things very slow and deliberate for a while as your fingers get adjusted and figure it out. You'll get there!
