Eric, you are great. Your video's have helped me so much. So many explicit details which answer all of my questions and things I have been struggling with. Keep up the great work and thank you so much!
Eric, I get shivers up my spine when folks talk about bowing the wrists in the backswing. It's another thing I have to actively do with little muscles as I get ready to bow 'em less than a second later. I've found that a single key keeps rotation of the forearms/wrists out of my head. The humerus also has rotational capacity. If think about eliminating that rotation all the way to the top of my backswing, my clubhead is in the proper position without fiddling with anything else. The clubhead is square at the top, and all I need to think about is turning my hips clear to make room for my arms coming through. The movement of my arms into the slot produces a change in the momentum of the clubhead. That's when the club itself, along with external rotation of the humerus, initiates bowing of my wrist. This is silly stuff; the point is, keep the lead shoulder quiet on the way back. PeterKennedy MD
Hey Peter! Agreed.....the lead shoulder IR/ER and humerus motion plays a huge role. I often times tell people to reference the elbow location to help with this... I talk about that more here ua-cam.com/video/RROKALR1xrU/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/bhmbaA22JuQ/v-deo.html Getting the "big" pieces to work best often times takes care of the "small" pieces....as you mention....but sometimes it's quicker for people to reverse engineer. Ive found both ways work depending on the person
Thanks! We have this level of detail on Cogornogolf.com in the member library. Good for some...too much for others :) But its there for those who want it!
Coach, you're really good. I found this lession so helpful. I have a problem with my right arm in the backswing and takeaway to such an extent that that club crosses the line and touch the back of the head at top of backswing. Thx coach.
The trouble in this process occurs when you try to "fish" for positions. Ive been guilty of that, but with some tips from you Ive managed to get past that. thanks!
Exceptionally helpful video. Two questions- on the down the line view, the left arm seems to come away from the chest a bit as you turn- is this an illusion or true movement;? should the right elbow begin to bend a little as you start the takeaway or not at all ( some advocate a completely straight right arm in the takeaway)
Hey Leonard! 1. Yes it does-I tend to OVERDO that...which is an error of mine. I would prefer it to look like this: ua-cam.com/video/8TjvCHCAQ0c/v-deo.html 2. Yes it should
Great Video Eric! I am still slicing.... BUUUUUT..... I've started down the path of fixing that. I have been hitting straighter much more consistently, but still slice ... My biggest issue seems to be that when I do the takeaway without a club, I can complete the backswing and downstring properly... "pushing" off with my back (right) foot and carry through properly with my left. Put a golf ball in play and a club in my hand, suddenly that becomes nearly impossible. I practice your takeaway in front of my TV while the video is on, put a club in hand, can usually follow through with the downswing properly, however very slow so I can properly maintain the club orientation.... Problem is, I speed it up and it all falls apart... Visited the range yesterday to test out my swing... Still can't seem to consistently get my swing to work.. Frustrating.. That said, it's a work in progress... I have definitely seen a huge improvement in my swing and connection... I thank you for it! Looking forward to your next video! Thanks again Eric for the awesome instructionals!
Thanks, Mike! 1. Everyone has that same thing happen. Evvvvvveeeeerrrryyyyoooonnneeee. You have to feel EXAGGERATED movements to make changes when hitting with a ball and at speed. Record yourself and adjust. 2. Figure out why the face is open causing the slice...fix that. You're on your way my friend! IF you ever need help check out Cogornogolf.com I would love to help if I could see a video of your swing.
Excellent!! My right elbow has started sliding back along my side which the Tour Striker ball made obvious to me. Eric - do you see this fault very much?? I definitely think this fault increases the odds of having a flying right elbow at the top.
Definitely something that I see here and there. Not the most common backswing issue (too much roll) but its up there. Tour striker such a good aid for feedback for that! You are on the right track!
What’s your favored pre-takeaway move to initiate the swing? Forward press? Waggle? Alternate small weight transfers between the feet? Small hip twist? Lift right heel slightly and reset to initiate the swing?
They all can work. None of those are "correct" None of those are "incorrect" Different ones will work for different people I do not have a favored one.
Hi Eric! Love your videos. When you put the alignment stick next to the left thigh, does that not encourage an incorrect setup as the hands are in front of the ball?
Hey! Thanks! Yes-it will make you have your hands pretty far forward at setup to do it! No biggie-just put back to normal with real swing! hope it helps!
One other question- is there any attempt to extend the arms away from the body - some talk about pushing the club back- or does the turn alone determine the distance of the hands from the right hip? I think the pushing back idea gets the hands further away than you suggest.
1. No 2. Mostly turn 3. We have to be careful to clarify if you are talking about what you FEEL versus what actually happens. 4. What you need to FEEL all depends on what you currently do....so if you are too narrow during the takeaway you may need to FEEL the arms work more away from the body. Someone who is too far away from the body many need to FEEL more narrow. The key is to have a checkpoint...then you FEEL whatever you need to hit that checkpoint. The goal is for me to give you checkpoints...you create the feels to hit those checkpoints
Incredibly helpful-thank you!!! Hope you continue these detailed videos- they cover so many aspects and put everything together better than I’ve seen in other lessons on line.
I tend to swing my arms back away rather than letting them be placed by the turn and get them farther away from the hip than your checkpoint- often hit it fat- maybe this over extension could be a big part of the problem. Thanks again.
Your Hands are not disappearing into your legs from DTL P1 as mentioned in depth video. I have trouble getting them there and keeping club head outside so good to see that you don’t love it. Els didn’t do it and I’m sure lots don’t.
Hey Russell! I would work with a good coach to see which is best for you. Whichever makes it easier to have the face more tilted down at last parallel I would choose ua-cam.com/video/S776LyvM6Pc/v-deo.html
Hey! Heres my comment from below "Yes...here is the missing link though ....it was an exaggerated drill meant to fix an error. The tee in the club was meant to hit the leg ONLY for players who normally go too far away....so that you can exaggerate the opposite and find a middle... Here is the video so you can see how I explain that ua-cam.com/video/oKtwDQORU8c/v-deo.html Hope that clarifies
Hey Nate! Sorry for the confusion! If you watch back the tee to thigh video you will see/hear I said that is an EXAGGERATED drill....meant for people who's hands go too far OUT side the toe line you need to feel them go more INSIDE the toe line to get neutral! Always have to exaggerate the opposite of your issue. Hope that helps!
Love this channel. Best educator on UA-cam.
Thanks, George!
George Jones.... Good call George....they certainly are

Thanks!

Really easy to understand. Thanks a lot for detailed explanation!
Appreciate it-you are quite welcome :)

My pleasure my friend...hope you get it sorted! If not we can help!
Hand position at position two, using that as a checkpoint for the amount of wrist hinge is brilliant.
Thanks, Jeff!

perfect lesson
Thank you!
Eric,
When will you be starting up instruction in Bethlehem in 2020? I looked at your calendar and it’s not populating. Thanks!
Hey! Working through the details of that as we speak!
Damn! Quite the detail! :-)

Nope! Its a blow up ball...you can check them out at www.tourstriker.com

I notice your takeaway is not what you were teaching, you went from tee on you right hip to lined up with your toe line. Damn UA-cam golf I guess.
